I entered the inn where I’d left Matt to find him sitting at the bar with two other players. One was a slight, brown haired girl with a longbow slung over her shoulder next to a quiver. The other player was a tall, dark haired man with a two-handed long sword at his waist and a chain mail tunic covering his clothes.
All three had drinks in their hands.
I walked up behind Matt without him noticing me. Then I coughed.
“Forget to get me a drink?”
Matt spun around. “Where the heck did you come from?”
“Work,” I said. “I got double crossed though so I killed my employer and ten of his men then looted their bodies.
“You should be well loaded then,” replied Matt. “What riches have you come by?”
Around a thousand silver, eight hundred gold, a revolver with a lightning periapt, a derringer, and a fire periapt,” I replied. “Plus a few high-quality weapons to sell.”
“Nice,” said Matt. “I’ve managed to recruit a couple of fighters to our party. I thought you’d like to put them through their paces first though.”
“Drink first,” I said as I sat down and raised a hand to get the bartenders attention. “Plus, something happened that I want to follow up on before I forget it.” I took a sip of my drink. “Not that I’m likely to forget it though...”
“What happened?” Asked the man sitting on Matt’s right. “Did someone get away?”
I shook my head. “No. I was stabbed in the back from behind while fighting my employee’s men. But I didn’t take any damage. I only took damage from those I was focused on. And even then it was only a few cuts.”
“It could be a passive ability,” said the girl. “Mine is an ability to see my target as if they were right in front of me as long as I’m focused on that one person. There’s a guy whose ability is to tell you what yours is. He’s just down the street.”
I nodded as I took a sip of my drink. “Any chance we could swing by there?”
“I don’t see why not,” said Matt. “We can put Osmond and Katelen through their paces afterwards.”
I downed my drink and stood up. “Let’s get going then.”
