We appeared next to a resurrection shrine. I looked up and down the town square we’d appeared in. I spotted a sign with a scalpel and a syringe on it and started towards it. Matt leaning on my shoulder.
We reached the door of the building and I knocked on it.
A man in a lab coat with unruly blond hair and a bushy beard opened the door.
“Can I help you?” He asked. Then he saw Matt covered in blood with long cuts on his chest and back.
“Yeah,” he sighed. “I can help you. Bring him inside.”
I half carried Matt inside and down a hallway to a room that was stuffed with a bed and cupboards and shelves holding potions and other medical items.
I sat Matt down on the bed.
“You might as well wait in the hallway,” said the doctor. “I’ll be a bit treating him.”
I left the room and sat down in a chair in the hallway. I leaned my spear against the wall and leaned back in my chair.
I pulled Matt’s cane out of my belt and unsheathed the blade. It was as much a piece of artwork as a weapon. With a curiously engraved blade with inlaid silver and an ivory handle.
I took a few swings with it. It was light. Too light for my tastes. I sheathed it and set it against the wall next to my spear.
I swiped open my menu and was surprised when an alert popped up: “YOU LEVELED UP! LEVEL 02! GAIN A SKILL POINT! (01)!”
I thought about spending it and shrugged. I wouldn’t spend it until I had to. That way I could pick a skill I needed at a time I needed it. But that wouldn’t stop me from taking a look at available skills to learn.
I’d just finished going through my skills when the door opened and the doctor appeared.
“Your friend is good to go,” he said as I stood up. “That’ll be four gold coins.”
I entered the room to find Matt seated on the bed drinking a potion and grimacing at the taste.
“All better?” I asked.
“I just need some clothes and I’ll be right as rain,” said Matt as he downed the potion and stood up.
“You might as well pay the doctor,” I said. “Then we can see about an inn.”
Matt payed the doctor and then we left in search of an inn.
We soon found one.
“The Golden Fox,” I read aloud as I looked up st the sign. “Probably the best we’re gonna get for now.”
“Agreed,” said Matt as we entered. We payed for rooms for the night then after settling ourselves in we logged off.
I stretched as the sensual override relinquished control of my body back to my brain. Opposite me Matt was also stretching.
“Looks like Seb is still out,” I said as I nodded at him.
“This place closes in ten minutes,” said Matt. “It’s unlikely he’ll be done before then.”
“Then we put him in the car,” I said. Then I smiled. “No. In the trunk.”
“You’re still mad about the time he tricked you into putting salt instead of sugar in your coffee. Aren’t you?” Sighed Matt. “I guess I might as well help you with your revenge, so you don’t do it later.”
We grabbed our backpacks and Sebastien’s and then we half carried half dragged Seb out of the restaurant. Matt popped the trunk of his car and we proceeded to stuff Seb in. We’d almost finished when Sebastien opened his eyes.
“Oh, looks like he’s back with us,” I said. My hand on the trunk hatch. “We didn’t want to inconvenience you, so we carried you out and put you in my trunk. We were gonna drop you off on your doorstep so we wouldn’t break your connection.”
“That’s much more of an inconvenience to me!” yelled Seb. “Why couldn’t you have just put me in the car seat?”
Me and Matt looked at each other. “I dunno,” said Matt. “It seemed like too much effort. Cut me some slack. I nearly got killed today.”
“That doesn’t mean you can treat ME like I’m DEAD!” yelled Seb as he lunged at Matt.
“You’re being too loud,” I complained as I slammed the trunk lid closed. Probably hitting Seb’s head in process. “You’re gonna wake the neighborhood.”
“Uh, Tim,” said Matt. “The trunk didn’t close.”
“I could’ve sworn I closed it,” I said as I looked at the back of the car.
“Well. There’s your problem,” I said as I spotted the arm dangling out of the trunk. I opened the hatch and Sebastien flopped out.
I opened one of his eyes. “He’s out cold.”
“We’re putting him in the backseat,” said Matt.
“Wait a sec,” I said. “If we put him in the backseat he’ll just flop around and that’ll look suspicious. The trunk is obviously the best spot.”
“No it isn’t,” stated Matt.
“Well there’s no one here to break the tie,” I said. “So Rock Paper Scissors to decide?”
“Fine,” sighed Matt.
We raised our hands, “rock paper scissors,” I said as we brought our hands down.
I was rock. Matt was scissors.
“The trunk it is,” I said.
Together we lifted Seb into the trunk. Just as I was about to close it Seb groaned and opened his eyes.
“Let’s go!” I said as I slammed the trunk shut. Probably hitting Seb’s head in the process.
We got in the car and drove to Seb’s house. Once we got there I opened the trunk to find Seb out cold.
Together we lifted him out and carried him to the door. I was about to knock on it when I spotted the trash can.
“You remember when I was on those meds that made me sleep and we were staying here for the night and you guys put me in the trash can?” I asked.
“Tim. No!” Said Matt. “We’ve already knocked him out at least once and drove him around in the trunk. We are NOT putting him in the trash can.”
“If it’s empty we will,” I said. “If it’s not empty we’ll put him inside. I think I know the code for the door lock.”
“Fine,” sighed Matt as we carried Seb over to the trash can.
I opened it and lo and behold it was empty. “On three,” I said. “One, two, wait.”
I took Seb’s N-Life off his head and fished its case out of his pocket. I folded it up and putting it in the case put it in his pocket. “Now,” I said.
Together we lifted Seb into the trash can and closed the lid.
“Now I’ll call it even,” I said. “Because I can’t remember anything you did to me that requires revenge.”
“Let’s just get you home before you have any more ideas,” said Matt.
