The last time, Rémi and I went out to Baker Beach to avoid my overprotective father for a little while. We went to a small restaurant and our food was on the house. As this happened a small fragment of my memory returned. As we were eating, I was wondering, "who was that person following us that day?" Hey are you thinking about something? Rémi asked. Something like that. I replied. What is it? Rémi asked. I feel like I have gone out with you somewhere like this. It was another beach and another restaurant like this. I replied. Your memories are starting to resurface, Rémi asked. Somewhat, I feel like that lead to the day when I was kidnapped. I replied. Rémi looked at me with a melancholy smile. He placed his hamburger on his paper plate. Lily, I want you to listen to me. I don't want you to ever experience that kind of sadness and torture ever again. Rémi replied. I can tell he was hiding something from me. He knew what would happen next. I thought. Rémi I want you to tell me what happened last time? I asked. What happened? I will talk about it later. Let's eat. Rémi replied. He was starting to dodge my question. I thought. As we were eating, I had him try garlic fries. He looked and smiled. It's good, but I do not like the after-taste. Rémi replied. You lost my friend. I replied. As we finished our food. We left a tip and walked back to the car. As we got into the car, he started to tell me what happened. See when we went out that day, one of your father's friends saw us out that day. He was telling your father things that did not happen. He said I kissed you, and I was no good for you. Rémi replied. That's pretty terrible for someone to just say things like that. I replied. He lied on me because my father owned him money. I also look like him as well. He replied. That is crappy. I replied. It is, your father's friends he surrounds himself with hate me and think that I am the reason for what happened. Rémi replied. Can you tell me what happened that day? I replied. That day, I found you looking traumatized by something. You watched a guy get killed for trying to rescue you then you were next. Lily out of fear from the trauma, I think you suppressed those memories. As your becoming more comfortable, your memories of Mai, Yoshio, and I are recovering. Rémi replied. I think so, too. I replied. As we drove back, my dad texted me.
Dad: Are you ok, why did you leave with him?
Me: Dad why are you so hostile towards, Rémi?
Dad: I'm not hostile, I don't want it to happen again.
Me: Dad I think my memories are suppressed from the traumatic experience. I am slowly gaining them back.
Dad: Really?
Me: Yes. In all my memories Rémi was always kind to me. He never tried anything with me like your friend told you.
As we were waiting in traffic, I was so angry with my father. You looked a little peeved. Rémi replied. I am. I replied. Let me guess your father is still blaming me. As things are going, your father is going to make me do something out of pettiness. Rémi replied. Rémi, I'm tired of my dad doing that to you. I replied. As tired as I am of this. I am still grateful to him. He got me out of a position. He helped me out as much as he could. Rémi replied. He is still fixated on my father saving him from a situation that he never wanted to be in. Rémi's childhood is so sad. It pales in comparison to what happened to me. I was tortured. He had an abuse father who sold off him off for his debts. Really father of the year material. He is such a positive person with a sweet personality. I just wish we could spend more time together. I thought. As the sun started to set, I was so happy I spent that time with him. Hey while we wait let's grab some dinner? Rémi asked. Sure. I replied. Time for a detour to a restaurant Asian cuisine restaurant. On the way there Mai called Rémi. Where are you guys? My dad is getting pissed. Mai replied. We actually were waiting in Traffic but do you want anything from this Asian restaurant on the way back? Rémi asked. You can bring me backs bowl with white rice with the brown sauce and spicy pork and all is forgiven. Mai replied. That sounds expensive. I replied. No it is not. She always orders that. Rémi replied. He looked up the menu for me. I want the white rice with the brown sauce with chicken and shrimp. I replied. He chuckled. That sounds so much like you. Rémi replied. I smiled. Hey I'll call you back, Mai. Rémi replied. As we called in our food, I was so excited to taste it. As we were on our way, one of my father's friends were watching us as we picked up the food. We were laughing. I smiled at him and I think he thought he was hitting on me. He told my father a bogus story that was obviously a lie. When we came back, Rémi and I were lectured. Dad, let me ask you this? Who will you believe me or him? I asked. My dad looked at me was surprised at my response. You look your mother just now. Minato replied. I am her child. I replied. Speaking of the devil. Minato replied. He pulled the phone away from his ear. Let me speak to my daughter, Minato! All the things that happened to her all your f**king fault to begin with! Mom yelled. Rémi was surprised at how furious she was. Now Minato, I will give you two options. You can do these two options.
A. Let me talk to Lily
B. Not let me talk to her and I will make a three-hour trip to your house tonight.
Which one would you pick?
Either way, I will curse you out and make you do it. Mom replied. Your mother sounds a little terrifying. Rémi replied. If I show you a picture of her you'll be shocked. I replied. As I showed my mother's picture of her and me. He was shocked. She looks so sweet. How could someone with such a gentle face threaten him so much he's afraid to respond? Rémi asked. That's simple. My father is feared by many. My mom on the other hand, knows how to put him in his place. I replied. Minato, I hear her giggling in the background. Let me talk to her. Mom replied. He handed me the phone. Hi mom, you know scaring my dad in front of his employee is very shocking. I replied. Lily, I am glad to hear your voice. I wanted to talk earlier, but your father ignored my call. I was out and about earlier. I replied. With whom? Is he cute and is the older? Mom asked. Mom stop it. I replied. Don't leave me in the dark. Mom replied. I'll tell you later, ok. I replied. Fair. Mom replied. I sighed and handed the phone back. Mai walked in the room. Your mom paralyzed dad in fear, again? Mai asked. Yes. I replied.
