I could've sworn I saw an indication of gold blaze across his eyes.
Was I imaging it?
"Well?" I aggressively questioned.
"I read a few words on the paper and I noticed you seemed jumpy, so I wanted to know more at what the cause was," Damon modestly replied, when he folded his arms.
He seemed overpowering, as if some great aura was coming from him. His blue eyes were inspecting me, watching my every move, whereas his eyebrows were merged together, in a misunderstanding to why I gave the impression overprotective all of a sudden.
"What, without my approval? You could've asked without taking it behind my back!" I growled at him, placing my hands on both of my hips, "they're my papers and if ever want something from me again, just ask me!"
I was terrifying myself to some extent, uncertain where this confidence was coming from. Jack and Max both looked at me wide eyes, due to not hearing this tone from me before. Damon on the other hand, wasn't fazed by it and let it slide.
"Well I thought they were answers, but instead they were just things about werewolves and their history."
"I know! I told you that before the Shannon came, nearly breaking down my door!"
Max looked at me confused, to why Shannon would do such a thing.
"Yeah but I thought it had other research – papers you came across and not about giant fur balls!"
I breathed heavily; thinking was he for real, "well I'm sorry that it wasn't up to your expectation's Damon! Next time you do the research and with a bit of luck, you can find more of a realistic source!" I whispered angrily to him, remembering that I was in the library, in the far corner where there was nobody about the in "Fantasy" section of the reading room and more or less, some individuals would be out and about, since it was a Saturday evening.
Damon unfolded his arms and looked back me, thinking that I would never have used that toned against him. Maybe my past and the fire had affected my ways of speaking to people.
His eyes were wide and very sapphire. You could see the whiteness around his iris and I realised how clear I can altered shades of blue, within his pupils. They looked striking. Beautiful.
"But Lucy," started Max, to clear the tension that abruptly transpired, "why are our names written down?"
I diverted my eyes away from Damon and looked at Max then viewed at the papers.
"Yeah but Lucy, why are our names over the papers besides there are circles and arrows, pointing to our names?" observed Jack, sitting up straight and positioned his arms on the table, with his hands composed together. He gawked at me, waiting patiently for my reply.
But nothing was coming to mind.
"Err, that's 'cause I was just, I don't know, just jotted down what happened to you three and making notes, to what the papers were describing. That's all. Nothing major," I nervously laughed.
I felt anxious all of sudden, unsure to where the conversation was heading all of a sudden.
I wanted to crawl into a black hole and ignore whatever else was going to happen during this conversation. I wanted to avoid it at all costs.
"But Lucy, the lines are matching to what the creature looked like and what has happened to us so far..." Max observed, squinting his eye a little at me.
"Yeah I mean the eyesight thing; we got bitten all of a sudden, now I can't use my glasses, our sight seems so perfect, like we can see everything clearly, besides, the dots seem like there are connecting...but werewolves?" Jack laughed horrifically, shaking his head negatively and pulled his chestnut hair back so the strands don't fall over his eyes. He looked stressed, "they just don't exist. There's no such thing as werewolves!" he exaggerated.
"Yeah and don't forget we can overhear everything in the distance...but what else will happen to us that's the question?" Max gave me worried eyes.
I took a deep and nodded aggressively, knowing where their point was coming from. What else was going to happen? First our sight, next our hearing, then what?
I think that this might be the beginning of a new life.
And I am very frightened of what's going to occur next.
"Wait..." I said, recalling a memory from the hospital, "Do you guys remember our injuries? Like our broken bones besides a scratch gash or two? Bruises and cuts too?"
Each one the three boys nodded slowly at me, understanding where I was coming from.
"Yeah, didn't we have, like, broken ribs, arms and legs?"
"Undoubtedly we all did, yet all of a sudden, were all healed?"
"I recall probing Ferah about it all, but she believed I must've hit my head hard or something because I didn't have any," I sluggishly whispered to them, remembering the appalling memory.
Jack nodded; almost certainly he did the same thing.
"So what we have healing powers as well?"
Max started to laughed, "well it looks like to me we do! We're superheroes! We can heal! I'm Spider-man!" he grinned.
I placed both of my hands on hips and stared at Max evilly "Ha-ha, we need to be serious here."
"I am being serious! So what was it called here," he said, while looking through the papers enthusiastically, lying around the table in a messy pile, "Ah-ah!" he quoted using two fingers on either hand, "the 'Healing Factor', as it is called throughout these papers, is what it is called for a werewolf that heals quickly."
Damon turned to look at his cousin and looked at him weirdly, "so what you're saying is that we can now heal fast too? That's absurd. It sounds unrealistic."
"Then what do you suppose was that that bit us then? Any ideas?"
"Oi. No arguments. I don't want to get kicked out of here."
"We'll all I know is that a big man like wolf creature, happened to bit us and now we're all magical. Maybe we should all go to Hogwarts!"
I stood near the auburn, wooden table, the side of it practically touching my thighs plus bending my back a tad, slamming both my hands on the table and arms supporting my position and all three teenagers, jumped.
"Right, I want you all too stop bickering and getting at each other's throats. Yeah we can't jump into conclusions now can we?" I lowered my voice a little, "we don't know what the hell that thing was that chased us. So let's all take a break and leave this conversation, shall we?"
"Lucy's right," Damon agreed, rubbing his temples, giving the impression he was tired, "we can't jumped into conclusions to what we're dealing with here. Until we know what that thing was, we can't assume what is going to happen next."
I nodded.
Noticing the time, at the centre, above the librarian's desk, hanging from the wall, with a white circular shape, I realised it was just about twenty to five.
"Right guys I think I may go for food. I'm starting to get hungry and I would like a proper meal," I said.
"I agree with you there Lucy! Think I may join you," agreed Max, getting up from his chair, but floppily nearly fell to one side, "my bum has gone numb," he groaned, while he was rubbing his right cheek.
Jack just laughed at him, "ha-ha! Poor you. I would have joined too but I'm going to see the girls about the English project. It seems Shannon is struggling a bit so I want to help out," he clarified himself, as soon as he too was getting up.
Damon on the other hand, seemed out of it. His hand was covering his mouth and was looking extremely hard on the papers, like he was trying to solve something out. His eyes skipping quickly from one sheet to another, trying to connect the dots.
"Damon?" I questioned.
Damon snapped out of it and looked at me, "I'm staying. I'm not feeling hungry at the moment."
"Not hungry? That's not like you Damon," he reacted slowly, "you normally like to eat."
Damon looked at his cousin and said through his teeth, "I said I'm fine."
We all looked at each other and we knew that was our queue to go and leave him alone. Jack went off to one direction, while Max and I left for another.
I haven't hung out with Max that much, but he was always busy with personal problems and with Lee.
I totally had forgotten that he existed.
"So where would you like to go Max?"
"I have no idea. Hungry Palace?"
"My thoughts exactly," I laughed.
Just as we were leaving, some male student who was hanging about at the main entrance of the College was hanging around with his friends, thinking he was cool. They were just round the corner from us.
I overheard his conversation from a few distance.
"So that's a whistle?" said female with dark skin.
"Not just any whistle; a dog whistle."
"So it's true then? Only dogs can hear it but not humans?"
He smirked, "Let's see shall we?"
The guy took a deep breath and blew out from the whistle.
It was the flashiest blare I have ever heard in my life.
I located my hands over my eyes and hugged my eyes shut. I fell backwards against the wall. What was this horrible noise?
The noise stopped and I opened my eyes. I noticed Max was looking at me, pale white and eyes just starting to open. Also his hands were over his ears.
"Just what the hell was that?"
I shook my head, "no idea!"
But the nose came back and we both fell back onto the wall. I slid down and sat on the floor, bending my back and positioning my head in between my legs, hoping the odd sound stopped.
Ten seconds later, it stopped.
"So it's true we can't hear it."
"Yeah but does it work though?"
"Shall we go and test it?"
Then off they went, out through the main doors.
Max and I got up and looked around the corner of the wall.
"Did they say 'dog whistle'?"
"Yeah..."
We both viewed at each other in tremor.
Impossible.
Only dogs are able to hear those things.
