The reception was enormous. There were some students about, but mostly it was empty, due to the fact that lesson has started, has I recalled Me Dorthy say. I head towards Ms Dorothy, who was having a conversation to both the receptionist and to a girl around my age. She was facing towards Ms Dorothy, so I only saw the back of her. She was wearing blue skinny jeans, black boots and leather jacket. She had wavy dark chestnut hair, which came down near her waist and she was about my height. All I could tell from her, that she was very fashionable. I detected that I was walking very weary, towards them very sluggishly, as I didn't want to disturb their little talk. Ms Dorothy looked up at me, and waved me over.
"Lucy, I want you to meet Shannon. Shannon, this is Lucy, who is going to start here, tomorrow. Everyone is at class now, in case you were wondering. Shannon, here, is one of my brightest students in this college. I have kindly asked her to take care of you and she kindly agreed in showing you around the college."
Shannon turned round and I noticed how incredibly stunning she was. Brown eyes, which were full of life, full lips that were covered in red lip stick and beautiful black eye liner. She looked as if she was a model and here I was looking scruffy as ever. I felt like a tramp next to her.
"Please to meet you!" Shannon smiled and gave out her hand. I shook it. She seemed polite. I like her.
"Shannon came back yesterday and had kindly volunteered to show you around the college and she will also be attending your classes. Oh and I almost forgot. Here is your time table and your keys, for your room. The number on those keys is just your room number. Shannon will show you where that this, as her room is near yours," Ms Dorothy explained, while handing me the keys.
"Thank you," I replied. I really don't know what to say. I felt awkward.
"Well, I best get off then. I'm in a meeting, once again," she tuts, "Thank you Shannon again and I hope you enjoy it here Lucy," Ms Dorothy smiled and left.
I stood alongside Shannon, not knowing what to say. I grinned at her. She smiled back.
"Well, let's get to it then! Follow me and I'll show you were everything is."
"Ok," I said.
I trailed behind Shannon. Walking down the corridor, we both strolled through rosy double doors, which lead me straight to the cafeteria part that was just next to the reception. It remained large and required plenty of tables. It felt like I was in a mansion which had a dining hall, but instead of one table there, there were loads. The walls were plain snowy, but there was one enormous window, that was connected to part of one wall and you can clearly see the beautiful scenery outside. Obviously, the other three walls were linked to other parts of the school.
"So this where you'll be having your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Most or many people stay would stay here during the Christmas holidays as well."
"Is the cafe open during the half terms or not?"
"Yes and no. No it when it's summer, unless you're actually living here, such has Christmas and New Year and yes for during half term, but only now and then. The food is free, but if it’s the vending machines for a quick drink or something, then money is needed," Shannon turned and smiled at me.
She walked up to me and I could she sought to ask me something, but seemed to drop the topic and just told me to move on, once she began to show me the rest of the college. She showed me where our classes are held, where each of the room holds up to approximately 30 people. An excessive quantity of students must be attending here. She showed me where library was, which was extremely vast. It felt enchanted; Rows and rows of book shelves, plenty of ladders to get to the higher parts of the place. It felt like I was Belle from Beauty and the Beast. My mouth opened liked a goldfish, just looking at something beautiful. I adored books. She at that point showed me where the swimming pool was, the gym, the garden where people like to have time to them self. It was full of colourful flowers, that were blossomed and were trying to not to expire. The garden was just around the corner from the main entrance of the college.
I noticed that Shannon was extremely happy and I was curious to why she was. She seems to have a bubbly personality. But I didn't bothered asking, since it wasn't my place to question. Instead I left her to finish viewing me the college, and lead me to my room. There were two buildings; a Girls Dorm and a Boys Dorm. Both have been separated so no funny business was going to happen. I doubt the students here even listened to that rule. I rolled my eyes at that thought. The Girls dorm was huge. As I entered the place, there was a pleasant seating area; two coffee sofas on front of fire place, which was full of statues and a picture frame of the Principle of top of the antique fireplace. It looked lovely, even if I do say so myself. There were two vending machines, both near a plant on the right hand corner of the room. The wallpaper was a wonderful purple and beige colour, with a hint of gold, within the flowery pattern. It seemed to have a very powerful, royal theme to it. Walking behind Shannon, I noticed that to my left there was stone stairs and next was an elevator. Shannon walked over to the elevator and waited for the doors to open.
"What number does it say on your keys?"
I didn't notice I was staring into thin air, until I heard Shannon's voice, "Err, 436."
"Ah, same floor as me then. Yay! You're three doors away from me. I thought it'll be far the way Principle was talking about it."
I felt relieved knowing I've got someone I recognise near my room, just in case I required something or someone. It's not that I wouldn't mind if she wasn't close, I just felt more comfortable.
"What floor are we on?" I asked, considering it was a big number I read out.
"Forth floor. Not that far to be honest. And you're kind of close to the elevator door as well, so it's easier for you to get to and back to your room," Shannon smiled at me.
Even though I've only encountered her for just over two hours, I felt like she'll become one of my best friends for a very long time, but only time will tell and hopefully, my gut instinct was right.
After waiting for two minutes, the elevator finally opened. We strolled in, pressed the button and waited for it to reach fourth floor. The one thing I hate was the extremely and very awkward elevator conversations. It doesn't matter if its you're friends, family or strangers, no one dares to talk plus it felt like there's a cricket in the background along with tumble weed going across the floor, just to prove the awkward silence.
Once the doors opens, Shannon lead us out and we turned left to see a corridor, full or doors. The lights automatically came on, to help the little bit of darkness. They must be them lights the sensed people and turned on straight away. At the end of the corridor there was a square window, showing a large tree, swaying in the wind. I noticed it got cloudy and dark clouds were outside. I'm assuming it'll be raining soon. Typical English weather, I sighed.
"Is everything ok?" Shannon asked, looking confused at me.
"Yeah I'm fine. So which room is it then?" I replied, a little too quickly.
"Just here." I observed that my room was three doors down from the elevator. Shannon was right; it wasn't far at all.
"My room is just across the corridor," Shannon pointed to the one near the window. Her room wasn't far. Happy days, "So if you need me, you can just come over."
"Thanks."
"Here is where you room is. The number on your keys is the number of your room. So you've got your keys? Stupid question of course you have! Let’s see what your room looks like."
As I got my keys from my pocket and attached it to the lock, I looked at Shannon with misunderstanding and questioned, "Wait, everyone's room is different?"
"Yes, more or less."
"Oh."
I twisted the locked and noted that my room was huge. My suitcases and boxes are already here. I had a three rooms; bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Straight away was my bedroom with a double bed, dresser, mirror and a huge built in wardrobe. The bedroom was cream and teal colour. Cream curtains, teal cushions, cream bed, the list could go on. I walked further in and realised three dark brown doors. I opened one and saw it was a bathroom. It was a nice size. Blue and white colours with a nice seaside picture frame beside the mirror, with obviously a bath, shower and a toilet. I opened another and it was a mini cupboard, to put my shoes and coats in. I closed the door and walked over to the last door, which was next door to the cupboard. Opening the mahogany coloured door, was a kitchen, which was black and white; typical kitchen colours. It wasn't big, but it had a fridge, oven, microwave and a kettle, along with a table and two chairs. I wandered back into my bedroom to find Shannon door at the door smiling at me. She started laughing at me, which I noticed my goldfish mouth that was practically on the floor. I closed it immediately; I didn't want to catch flies.
"Well? You like?"
I didn't know what to say. It was way better than my last home, if I could call it a home. I was speechless and did not dare to speak, so I nodded to keep on the safe side besides I didn't want to hear what my voice would sound like. Shannon just continued and was amused by my expression.
"Ok, well I'll leave you to it then. If you want I can come later and go out for tea?"
"Yeah, ok. That sounds nice," I replied smiling and noticing how much voice sounds a little higher than usual.
"Ok see you soon!"
Shannon left and it was just me in my room. I just collapsed onto my bed. I could just tell, that this year, will have many surprises.
