"So, did you find anything Lucy?"
"No there was nothing. There was nothing to explain why we have this sudden amazing ability to hear or anything that was nearly similar."
I strained myself, trying not to show how suddenly terrified I was with Damon. I didn't want to show it, yet my heart was beating fast, almost as if it was trying to escape my chest.
Damon's eyes however, snapped behind me, concerning over at the paper overload I had on top of my desk.
"I see you've been to the library, with the stack of papers behind you," Damon assumed, still looking behind me, probably thinking why I had this number of papers lying on my desk.
His eyes snapped back to me. He was interested what the hell I was looking at. What I was looking for.
"Err, that's nothing Damon, absolutely nothing," I responded a little too hurriedly, which I scolded at myself for, “just a slight research for my English project.”
"Are you sure? Then what's with all of those papers? They can’t be all for your research? You've must've found something Lucy?" Damon questioned desperately taking a deep sigh, hoping I did discover something; anything that would solve our questions.
I shook my head, expecting him believed me, "n-no," I stuttered, mentally screamed at myself. I really need to start practising how to stop stuttering, "There was nothing about real life humans with super hearing or remarkable eyesight. Unless you're a comic book hero or non-existing character, which only appear in stories," I gloomily answered back, looking at the floor which seemed to be more interesting, but I looked up to his eyes, hoping he saw I was telling the truth in them, “Like I said; it for my English project,” I snarled back at him.
Damon strolled and welcomed himself into my room in, shutting the door behind him and started to walk towards me, very slowly.
Where was his invite? I don't remember telling he can come in.
His eyebrows frowned and he looked at me, with curiosity in his eyes, "so what were you looking at? Can I have a look?"
"I-"
But he got to my desk before me, in some way rapider, faster than me. It was like Jack all over again this morning, who mysteriously marched towards me with a very reckless pace.
Why were they so quick? Was the bite the cause of this?
"You were looking at werewolves?” Damon said out loud, hearing confusion within his voice, “Are you becoming Mr Salvador's little apprentice or something?" He laughed, but I knew it was forced. His shoulders moved up and down slightly, in a calming matter and kept his breathing low. Damon's voice was firm, as if he was trying to figure out what I was looking for on the papers. I noted his figure was motionless and I was waiting for what was going to happen next. He stood there, aimlessly, reading in peace. His body still, unmoving.
Instead, I replied his question to avoid any quietness or awkwardness, "No I'm just interested in the topic of werewolves. Fascinating creatures, werewolves are," I clarified, which was true in some way. I am fond of anything to do with the Night Children or mythical creatures.
Damon picked up one sheet of paper, which was full of yellow highlighters and scribbled notes, I wrote down on the side to what has occurred to all so far, ever since we were bitten.
Damon scowled and looked disturbed, viewing the black and white paper, whilst his crystal blue eyes scanned the words fast, trying to sink it all in.
The silence was killing me, as I did not have a clue what to do, so I just stood there aimlessly, waiting patiently.
"Damon..?" I finally said, questioning if he's ok or not, as I was starting to become worried every second that went by.
I took a step forward to him and slowly started to reach his right arm with my right hand, being slow and cautious of what was going to happens next.
"Damon..." I said once more, with more stern in my voice.
"Lucy, what's all this?"
He turned around swiftly, his hair as I just noticed, was all over the place, as if stressed was taking place and he narrowed his eyes at me, trying to figure out what I was thinking or in fact, looking for.
I saw a fear in his eyes. Fear about the papers. Fear about those specifics that maybe true?
"They're notes?" I said, not liking where this was heading.
"Notes on what though? Why have you got notes based on werewolves? Why are our names written on the side of them?" Damon quickly asked, towering himself over me, as if he had some power over me.
Flashbacks of my past started to happen and my heart rate started to pace. I started to panic.
"I-"
Our heads snapped straight to my door and I was saved by the brash knock against it and whoever it was, they were pretty loud.
"Oi, Lucy! It's Shannon! Open up!"
I looked at Damon, whose eyes were looking at me, but I knew for a fact he kept his eyes focused on the papers when I wasn't eyeing him, with his eyebrows knotting together, thinking hard.
“I’m coming!" I yelled loudly at her, hoping to get some interruption and dodge the topic for a while.
"Luc-"
Damon tried speaking to me once more, but by the time I unlocked the door Shannon was looking at me, all flustered; her cheeks had a pink flush to them, her dark chocolate hair static from the running in addition she was breathing very intensely. Her eyes were wide and wary, unsure what to say or do. What had precisely occurred?
"Shannon, are you alright?"
She ignored my question.
Shannon placed her right arm against the door frame to hold herself up and viewed me before explaining, "Someone... has told the police... that you're awake and they are on their way... to meet you. I thought... I should warn you before they get here," she said, taking deep breath every time she stopped to take in air.
I blinked several times and stared at Shannon's face, letting her words process to what she said to me.
"Wait, what?!"
Damon was beside me against the door looking at Shannon as if she has two heads, "are you serious? She has just woken up yesterday! I thought they were going to leave her alone until Monday?"
"Oh, hello Damon! Didn't know you had company Lucy," Shannon looked surprise and giggled childishly.
I ignored her remark and turned my attention to Damon, "You didn't tell me that! You told me when I'm ready NOT MONDAY!"
"And I thought, well I'm defiantly sure they told us Monday or when you want to see them!" Damon stood there wide eyed.
"Well, what am I supposed to do? Are they heading straight here, to my room?" I shrieked and looked straight back at Shannon, hoping there weren't heading here. I wasn't ready for questions. I wasn't prepared.
"I don't know, maybe. I saw them walking past the cafe, so probably."
I took a deep sigh, unsure what to do next. I bit the inside of my left cheek, knowing I needed Damon and Shannon away from here, so the police don't ask questions why they were here in the first place. I know they may think they were visiting me but then again, they were warning me. Especially Damon, knowing he probably jeopardized my answers and stopped me from telling the truth, which in a way, did happen. Also Damon being the girls dorm, know they definitely would ask that question.
"Right, first of all I need you out of here, Damon. I don't want the police wondering why you're in a girl’s dorm, in my bedroom and Shannon; I don't want you listening to the conversation-"
"-I won't listening to the conversation!-"
"- or be here when the police come. I know I'll have to be by myself, knowing they'll want answers just from me, and me only. I know of you're here, it'll put me at ease but I need to do this alone."
And I need to put those papers away. I don't want them snooping around the place and get into my business.
"Ok?"
"Ok..." Shannon said sadly, which made my gut twist with guilt.
"Damon?"
Damon had a hard face knowing, hoping what he and the other two boys said to me, I was going to say the same and explain the same story.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, “Damon, I can do this and I am going to tell them what happened that night,” I turned my head slightly to my right and widen my eyes slightly, hoping he got the message.
Damon nodded slowly, understanding what I said was true.
“Ok. I’ll be in the café waiting with the Max and Jack. You can come by after, if you’re up to it. See you soon.”
Damon walked out, not saying another word, when I noticed a pile of papers were in his tightly wrapped around his hand, rolled up in a cylinder shape, trying not to fall out his hands. I was confused to where he had got them from.
I took a step back and realised what they were. Wide eyed, I viewed my desk, noticing the pile of scribbled papers were not there anymore. I started to breath heavily, knowing why he walked out straight away to see Jack and Max. I stole them from me, without my permission!
I was fuming.
“Lucy?”
I turned my head quickly to see Shannon stood there, with the look of confusion across her face.
“Everything alright? You suddenly seemed zoned out. And is everything ok with Damon, he too seemed not himself.”
Shannon’s fine brown eyebrows were knotted together, her eyes moving about, trying to search some answers in my eyes.
I cleared my throat, not trusting my voice what it was going to sound like.
“Yeah I’m fine, just nervous now, you know with the police.”
“It’s ok, were here for you,” she gave me a surprise light hug, reassuring me that everything will be alright, “I’ll get going. I’ll be with Chloe and Jasmine in the gym. Chloe and I are helping Jasmine with her cricket skills, since she wants to be part of the cricket team. Come and see us afterwards!”
Shannon left waving at me and closed the door.
I was alone and scared to what the next hour will happen.
I paced up and down for about two minutes in my bedroom until I heard a knock on the door.
I stopped and stared, considering whether or not to open the door.
I took a deep breath and strolled towards the door.
Now or never, I thought.
There was another knock and I stopped just before the door. I grabbed the handle and turned it ever so slightly.
Opening it, I was in view of two middle aged adults; one male the other female.
The male was very tall, taller than if Damon was stood beside him while the woman was just slightly taller than me.
“Lucy Panther?” The dirty blonde haired woman asked.
“Yes, that’s me,” I replied, nervously.
“May we come in and ask a few questions?”
I was very tempted to shut the door in their faces.
I nodded slowly and not trusting my voice, I responded with a quiet “yes” and opened the door wider for the door adults to come in.
“It won’t take long,” the male said, with a very deep voice.
They both stepped in and I fastened the door behind them, which I slowly turned and wandered to answer the questions they wanted receiving.
