Since the lesson ended, Damon was sticking around with us until it was dinner time. As per, Chloe was requesting personal questions to what the hell was going on between him and Lee. Besides as much as he wanted to tell us the information, he just seemed angrier than ever to what was happening. His hand converted to a fist and we knew we had to stop questioning and it was personal. Everyone avoided asking him anything else and asked me questions on what type of artists I like and where I what I hope to achieve in the future, after college. I could tell these were forced questions, but at the same time, they were interested to what I was informing them.
Damon and the other two guys strode off somewhere, as soon as Shannon and Chloe asked me if I wanted to come along with them to the café before heading off to lunch in half an hours' time. I refused and said I wanted to start getting some research done and start on my artwork straight away, otherwise I'd be behind everyone else and I really didn't want that. They both said I should just start tomorrow, but I insisted on that I needed it doing it as soon as possible. This was also including the essay Ms Leavy talked to my English about. I need to get that started immediately too.
Meanwhile I was currently in the library, searching for particular books based on photography and landscape and searching for specific artists for my work, to back up my research based on my topic. I have so much dedication towards my artwork and I was hoping my mother was looking down at me, hoping she knew I was trying to make her proud. I knew I was class 'swat' back in my old school and college, but I didn't want to one of those people who were just slacking behind. I wanted to get somewhere in life and craved to get the best results and grades possible.
"So you're in here."
I jumped a mile and quickly turned to see Damon standing alongside a bookshelf, with a smirk forming across his face. He had his arms over his built chest and leaned on his right side, against a pillar. His dark brunette hair, ruffled all over the place in many directions. I fell against the bookstand behind me, thinking it would have fallen over due to the hard pressure I was pushed. I stayed in one spot, wide eyed at Damon with my hand over my chest and stayed there, leaning against the bookstand not trusting my balance at the moment, thinking I would of tumbled to the ground.
"Jeez! You scared me!"
Damon's smirked turned to a small giggle, shaking his head at me, while shaking his head, "I'm sorry for scaring you, but I did say your name beforehand," he said, when his ocean coloured eyes, were looking straight at me.
I sighed and shook my head. I took a deep breath while I closed my eyes. I tried to focus on my breathing and heartbeat and knowing that one day I will have a heart attack, the way my heart is going.
I opened my eyes and focused on Damon's face, which was full of concern and curiosity.
"Are you ok?" he asked, taking a step towards me, cautiously, thinking I would start a cat fight for scaring me, whilst unfolding his arms, "Seriously, I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to scare you."
Feeling my heartbeat slowly returning to its original pace, I stood against my two feet and repaid a reassuring smile towards him, knowing I am fine for the time being, "Yes. I'm ok now, thanks."
Damon sighed and gave me a gentle smile, "That's great. Do you get scared easily or something?"
I looked down at my feet, feeling shy and ashamed; I didn't want to meet his eyes. I nodded and looked back to him, "Yes, I do."
His right side of his lips curled up, "I'll take note not to scare you and make sure you hear me beforehand. Anyway, I came to see where you were and the girls said you were in here. Surprise, surprise, for once they're right; you were. You do know you can start this in the next few days, until your comfortable here?"
"I do. Shannon and Chloe already told me that, but I just wanted to make a head start and just get started with my coursework. I'm just going to start off by taking some books to take out to I can start doing research when I get back to my room after our lessons are over today. I know, I'm such a nerd but I don't care. I rather get good grades than fail my work," I beamed, placing my hands behind my back.
Damon smiled at me and nodded, agreeing to what I am saying, "You know you're the first girl I know who's dedicated to what she does. I mean Chloe and Shannon are committed to their work and want the best, but you seem to push yourself a little more to get to that goal. You're different. I like that."
I was taken aback and shock was revealed across my face. No one has ever said to me, apart from my best friend. I was deeply shocked. It felt like time stopped for me. I gulped and blinked a few times; thinking was this reality or was it a dream. Compliments were something I was not good at.
"T-Thanks, I guess."
Realising that I was very uncomfortable and awkward, Damon was coughing and changed the subject entirely. He received an odd look from the librarian from afar and told him to shush. When she left, Damon and I tried looked at each other and not to laugh. I pressed my lips together so that no sound came out.
"So, uh, what are you trying to look for?"
I turned around and looked at the books I was currently looking.
"Just some books to start of my research that's all, but I can't seem to find one at my particular interest," I sighed, placing my hands on my hips.
"What books is it that you're looking at or what is your topic about?"
"It mainly about 'landscape' at the moment and I may explore further soon though...I'm just trying to find artists that use landscape in their artwork or landscape artists, based on photography."
I turned around and noticed that Damon had already picked up three books from the shelf.
"Maybe these might be to an interest to you for now," he said casually, while placing the books onto the table, which was outside the section of the library I was in.
I walked over to him and stood beside him, eyeing the books. I briefly looked at them and noticed they weren't bad books.
"C'mon, I'll show you how to take them out from the library."
I strolled over to the information desk with Damon, when the librarian looked up at us from her papers. She set her pen down and pulled her glasses down, to the bridge of her nose, peeking over them and gazed at myself and Damon. She looked at me and gave me a confused look and moved her eyes at Damon.
"May I help you?" she asked, in a rough voice. Her blouse was ruffled, creased from all edges, while her collar was open up a little and to see her neck veins sticking out. Her long black skirt, moved swiftly along with her, every time she moved. She seemed delicate and fragile, but I had a feeling deep down, she was like the Incredible Hulk. Her glasses were at the tip of her nose which had a chain on either end, wrapping being her neck. The glasses had no rim around them. Her grey hair was curly and shoulder length, which had a bouncy feel to it. Even though she was old, she looked beautiful. Her hazel eyes, gleamed happiness at us for some reason. She wore some make up, but only just like she was hardly wearing mascara and just a hint of red lipstick. She had hardly any wrinkles around her eyes and you can tell she looked after herself.
"Hi Mrs Beam. I was just wondering if Lucy could just take these books out for a week or so, if that's ok?"
Damon placed the books onto her desk, while Mrs Beam looked at me and gave me a heart-warming smile.
"Ah, so you're Lucy, my dear? I'm Mrs Beam, the College's librarian and it's nice to meet you," she said while putting her right hand out to me.
"And it's nice to meet you too," I smiled at her and shook her hands.
"Ah Ana, just the person I was looking for."
I took my hand away and turned away from Mrs Beam to see a young man, probably in his early 20s coming towards. He had slightly long, fair hair and had blue eyes. He was wearing a very formal black and white suit, which were extremely clean and spotless. He wore one earring on his right ear that appeared to be silver. I was unsure if it was real or not. He walked over to us, having one hand in his in his trouser pocket and the other holding, which gave the impression, to be a walking stick. When I looked closely to it, the handle seemed too looked as if it can be unattached from the rest of it but then again, I could be seeing things and just shook it off.
Mrs Beam sneered at the young man and gave a deep sigh through her nose.
"William. I heard that you were back from your family business. I didn't think you were coming back this soon."
She seemed to be uninterested in the young man that was called William. She crossed her arms and looked dead on to him. William stopped just under a meter away from the older librarian, "Ana," William smiled at her, "I had to come back sooner than later. And everything has been taken care of with my family. All is well, for the time being."
I could've sworn I saw his face twitch with annoyance. I saw Damon, squinting his eyes at him with disgusted. I looked back at William who seemed to notice me. I politely smiled at him, which in return, gave me a smile. I turned to look away, back at Mrs Beam.
"I was wondering if my books that I ordered about three weeks ago have arrived yet. Since I left a while ago, I could not receive them."
Mrs Beam or Ana walked towards the back of her desk and picked up about five books up; two thin looking while the rest were thick. She placed them on top of her papers and located a sheet of paper and pen, on top of them.
"Yes the came about a few days after you left. If you can just sign here, you can have them."
William signed the paper, to say he has received his books and collected them. He said his goodbyes and left us standing there, unsure what we should be doing next.
"Who was that?" I asked anyone who was listening.
"William, or Mr Salvador as most people call him. He's a Science teacher or so he says," Damon scoffs.
I turned to face him, with a confused look against my face, "Why did you say that?"
He rubbed his eyes with his right hand, thinking its stressful even discussing about it, "Because he has a belief and it's a stupid one, yet he seems so proud it's real. I honestly think he's lost is sanity and needs to see therapist. Even the tutors think it's stupid and needs to see the doctor."
This got me more interested yet worried to why Damon would have even said that in the first place.
"Why don't they sack him or something then?"
"He's an amazing maths teacher, that's why. Losing him would just ruin this college. He has made students gain excellent results these past years."
"And what is it, he believes in?"
Damon looked at me, straight in the eye and not blinking when he told is the weirdest thing I've ever heard.
"He believes in Werewolves; he's a werewolf hunter."
