"I've told you a million times, I don't know!" Something metal makes contact with the person's body. I think it's Ida. I'm still too out of it to lift my head or open my eyes. But I can hear everything.
"Let's try this again. You know what we want. Where is she?" I don't recognize the voice speaking. "Goddammit! Why do you have to be so difficult?" She lets out a horrific scream. I can hear her crying.
"I don't know. I don't know. I don't know! How many times do I have to tell you I don't know where she is!" Ida screams again. This time louder.
"Fine. I have other means of making you talk." Heavy footsteps come in my direction. The sack is yanked off my head. My eyes are still closed. "Wake her up." A voice I still don't recognize says. Seconds later my head jolts up and my eyes rip open. Luckily they woke me up using just ice water. It could've been a lot worse.
"Glad to see you're awake." A man smiles at me. He looks around my age. I've never seen him before in my life. Then again, I'd never seen the captain before either yet here I am. "Listen here." He pauses and looks up as if to think. "What was your name again? Ida was it?" Ida doesn't respond. She continues to stare at the ground. "No matter. As I was saying. Since you don't want to talk. I'll make you talk." The guy walks over to me and lifts me up to my feet. He looks me up and down and walks circles around me, then finally stops at a spot on my right. He takes the knife that is in his hand gently runs it across my chest just underneath my collarbone. "You wouldn't want me to put her through the same fate you're going through now, would you? I mean, you wouldn't be in this situation had you just told us what we wanted to know." Ida looks rough. Her left eye is swollen shut as dried blood makes her hair stick to her face. Long lines run down her legs, some deeper than others. "I mean it, Ida." He adds more pressure to the knife. I intake sharply. I try to calm myself down and take slow breaths. "Ida." More pressure.
Ida finally lifts her head up to look at me. She mouths I'm sorry to me as she says, "Go to hell." I hear him laugh maniacally, as he slowly drags the knife across my chest. I don't scream at first, but he presses the knife deeper and I can't hold it in. He stops. Ida looks at the floor. My chest is screaming at me in agony. He moves the knife to my throat.
"Let's try this again. Where is she?" Ida doesn't look up, her eyes are still at a spot on the floor.
"Ida..." My voice comes out hoarse at first. "Whatever it is your hiding. Do I have to die for it?" That gets her attention. She snaps her head up and looks me square in the eyes. She looks furious.
"If I tell them. They'll just kill her. Rather you than her." I sigh and roll my eyes. I'd facepalm if I had use of my hands.
"Don't you get it, Ida? They'll start with me, then bring in someone else. Someone who maybe means more to you than I do. Then they'll kill them too." I pause. "And then, they'll bring in a child most likely. But this time, instead of just inflicting a little pain and then killing them. They'll slowly torture-"
"420 West Rose." Ida spits out. The knife moves away from my throat.
"You're a smart one." The guy comes around to the front of me. "Beautiful at that. I can see why Vincent takes such a liking to you. Although." He gently runs his fingers above the cut on my chest, "He's not going to be very happy about this."
