Impossible.
Humans such as us cannot hear the dog whistle. Only animals such as dogs and wolves were allowed to hear such an unpleasant sound. It was only made for those animals only.
So why could we hear it?
We shouldn't be able too. Unless it was a fake, but then again, those students couldn't hear such racket and had a blank expression across their faces, whilst their leader, whom I assumed, was blowing into it.
I couldn't put my finger on why nor how it was possible. On the other hand I will be honest; my ears were sensitive. My head was aching and I was starting to feel lightheaded. The room was starting to spin. I felt sick.
Is this what it's like for dogs; their ears become this delicate?
I closed my eyes, looking at full darkness, concentrating on my breathing and optimistically, the dizziness would leave.
In and out, in and out, slowly but surely I started to feel good enough. The ache within my head was washed-out away and my ears weren't throbbing to any further extent, only a façade of what the ache once was.
I opened my eyes and noticed Max was supporting me; one hand on my back, while the other was on my arm. He was trying to keep me upright, so I didn't fall. He was opening and closing his mouth at me, but I couldn't comprehend what he was trying to say. It felt like I was entirely deaf and had to lip read his mouth.
I couldn't lip read properly and my eyebrows frowned in confusion.
I wish I could mind read. Life would be easier if I could understand what people we're thinking or tried to say to me.
"Lucy...r...yo...al...ght?"
My hearing was starting to come back and I was very happy that I could hear again, but it was only hazily. I viewed at Max's face. It was full of concern and worry. His baby indigo eyes were wide and petrified, unsure what to do and his head was moving in every direction, supposing his was eyeing for help. His eyes precipitously flashed a golden colour and back. I was taken aback; unexpectedly I felt an icy sensation down my spine as well as I recalled what Damon's eyes did. It was my turn to give him the wide eyes. His beige hair was all over.
He once more viewed me, besides this time, I was able to hear what he was proverb to me, "Lucy! Can you hear me? Are you alright?" his deep voice questioned me, his eyes searching everywhere, making sure I wasn't hurting and everything was alright.
I just nodded, "I'm fine. Thank you," I smiled, forcefully, hoping it was enough to satisfy him.
I stood on my own two feet and Max let me go, yet his hand was almost touching my arm, just in case, not fully trusting to what I just said, knowing well that I could collapse again any second.
No one was around to see the weirdness that had just transpired, including the window that was beside us.
"Are you sure you're alright?"
"I'm defiantly fine, Max. I'm fine" I assured him, "What happened?" I asked, unsure what just exactly occurred.
I tried searching in his eyes but there was no hope at finding the response I was considering.
Max looked away from me, eyeing the awful cold, grey flooring at the main entrance of the College, that was full of marks and scratches and whispered, "I don't know. I honestly don't even know."
He looked as if he was trying to work something out, but nothing. He sighed very loudly.
He looked back at me and asked, "What was that?"
I pursed my lips together, and shook my head in misperception, "apparently a dog whistle."
Max snorted, "That wasn't a dog whistle. That was something else."
"And what would that be?" I hastily muttered.
"...I don't know! Just that people can't hear those things!" he explained, with his arms flying all over the place, over exaggerating a little, "we can't hear those things!"
I sighed, knowing where he was coming from.
Looking at him straight in eyes, I said, "You're right. But then if it wasn't a dog whistle, then what was it precisely?"
"It could be a like an experimental whistle, like a distance only one: you can't hear it up close but in the distance only," he raised his eyebrows and nodded as well as crossing his arms, hoping he won the stupid argument.
It was my turn to cross my arms and blinked at him several times. I licked my lips and tightened them together besides I considered him with a blank face, clarifying, are you that stupid?
He located his arms down, at either side of him and shrugged, "well I don't know!"
"Well -"
"I thought you guys were out for tea?"
Max and I skipped a mile, when our backs crashed against the wall. I screamed at the sudden intrusion and we both looked at the visitor wide eyed.
"Damon!"
"Hi. I come in peace," he gave us a peace sign, "Plus I don't think Chloe would appreciate you by yourself alone in a corridor, with another girl. Maybe you should ask Chloe out, Max. I know how much you like her," Damon grinned like a Cheshire Cat.
Max's cheeks flushed, with a deep rosy colour and avoided looking into his eyes, "Oi, I have no idea what you're on about."
I placed my hand over my chests and I felt my heart, thundering underneath my chest, ignoring their conversation. Whereas Max placed both his hands on hips and looked at his cousin in frustration.
"What the hell! Are you trying to scare us?"
"Well, not really. I thought you would have heard my footsteps coming over to be honest with you," he crossed his arms over his chest.
That was true. With this 'Enhance Hearing' we all suddenly have, we ought to of heard him approaching towards us, however since that dramatic event transpired and our hearing went weird, obviously we weren't absorbed on our surroundings.
His cobalt eyes, were narrowed and fixed on us to why we were alone, in superstition. He walked slowly towards us, trying to figure out why we weren't off for tea.
"You two playing hide seek?"
Max and I looked at each other, puzzled to why Damon asked such an absurd thing.
"No? Lucy nearly passed out," Max explained.
Damon became serious and marched over to me, set his right hand, gently on my left shoulder. I glanced into his eyes, they had softened a bit. His face became alarmed and looked troubled, searching for any more sufferings.
"Are you alright, Lucy?" he wondered, waiting patiently for my reply.
"I'm fine. Max here helped me get my senses back," I grinned, but this time, it was true.
"Are you sure?"
"Look, Damon, she's fine. Seriously, I mean look, she can walk on her two feet. Clever isn't she?"
I and Damon both glared at Max as if he was a child.
"What?" he innocently asked us.
I shook my head at him.
"So what exactly made you faint?"
"Well, this-"
A group of students came through the navy blue double doors, the same ones that had the whistle, the very whistle, which nearly destroyed both mine and Max's eardrums, into bits.
They were all laughing noisily and carrying on, nattering amongst each other. They all strolled into the building, thinking they owned the place. Little do they know how much of an idiot they all looked to be.
"So it does work!" said an olive coloured girl, with dark hair.
"I know! Poor mutt," said a scruffy looking boy, who seemed to think he's god's gift.
"Oi! You blow that thing very loud, no wonder it was crying!"
"Yeah but did you see the owners face? Thought he was going to, murder us."
"Na, he won't. At least we know it works!"
That's when I realised who was talking. Lee.
Why didn't I notice before?
"Shall I have one last go before I closed the door?" Lee smirked, dangerously to his peers. His evil glint in his eyes, made him seem he had no heart. He left the door open with his left foot, and viewed the older man, with his dog, who seemed to be talking to what appears to be his son, almost certainly visiting.
"Oh no," I heard Max say, wide eyes at me.
I felt my face becoming pale, as I stared back at Max. We distinguished what was going to occur; if we all didn't get out from there immediately and with Damon alongside us, three people who would agonize from a dog whistle wouldn't look good. People will be asking questions and specialists would be on our case.
"What?" asked a confused Damon, who seemed to be baffled to what was going on.
"We need to go now," I interpreted, to both older teens, both scared of what was about to happen, again.
I desired to keep my eardrums intact.
"Why?"
We each grabbed Damon's arm, one individually, and started to drag him away from the commotion.
"Where are we going?"
I turned away and looked behind the corner, just in time to see Lee's lips on the whistle.
A piercing noise unanticipatedly came, and I threw myself away from Damon and implanted both my hands on top of my ears and clasped my eyes tight shut. I felt someone grab my top and pulled me against the wall. I released my eyes, to see it was Max and had agony across his eyes. He closed his eyes back shut, waiting for the noise to go over, which seemed it felt forever.
Meanwhile, I focused on Damon, who too had hands over his ears. We were crouched together, with the wall supporting our sides to keep up standing.
What it seemed like forever, the sound stopped but my ears still ached.
I stood up. I opened my eyes for the second time and glanced at Damon and Max.
Max seemed to be alright, just pulling his head back and closing his eyes. Possibly just aiming on getting rid of the pain from his ears. He too was stood up.
Damon however was stood up on his own two feet but bending over. His two hands were on his knee caps and I noticed how he was breathing hastily, as if he ran a few miles. He was trembling.
"Damon...?" I questioned unsure if he was having an attack or trying to control his breathing.
I took a step forward, when I heard something that wasn't human.
A growl.
And it came from Damon's direction.
This time I hesitant and very terrified, unsure what was going to happen next?
"...Damon?"
Max saw the look across my face and followed my eyes.
"Oi, Damon," Max said.
"What the hell was that noise?" Damon howled at us.
I was taken aback at the sudden lowness of his voice, "what was that?"
Damon looked up and I traumatized to what I perceived.
"Oh my god," I whispered.
Max was taking one step back, not knowing what to make of his cousin.
"Help me," Damon pleaded.
"Damon...your eyes...they're glowing golden..." Max worriedly explained.
Damon watched his cousin with confusion, "what- ouch," Damon scrunched his eyes together and placed his hands on eyes, "My eyes...my teeth."
"Is there anywhere we can go, right now?" I asked Max, in panic, trying to pick Damon on placing his right arm over my left shoulder,
"There are the abandoned male toilets at the bottom of the corridor, next to the empty offices," he clarified, while taking Damon's other shoulder, over his.
"Oh yeah, I remember seeing those. Does anyone go in them?"
I asked while making our way over, opening a few doors along the way, as we struggled. Damon growled a few times and kept repeating 'my eyes' and 'my teeth.'
"Sometimes but not all the time. It's just because it's cold in there that's all, but only if people are desperate they go there. Plus nothing is happening down here at the moment."
"Ah."
Going by some empty room we made it to the male toilets.
"You are coming in?"
"Yeah. Don't care if they are boys only. I'm helping a friend."
We burst through the toilets and it was quite small, with only three cubicles. They seemed more private that the ones you see in the clubs or towns, public toilets. And wow it was freezing in here.
I let go of Damon, who quickly grabbed the nearest sink for support.
"Damon, are you ok?" I asked him, knowing it was a stupid question.
"The cold is helping me. I feel less dizzy," he explained, taking deep breathes.
I nodded. Max stood beside me.
But Damon looked at his reflection and took a step back, "my eyes...why are they glowing!"
He looked petrified. He looked like a lost puppy. He shook his head, not knowing what to make of it.
He went over to the tap and let it run. He placed his underneath and splashed water all over his face. He did this several times, until he felt better.
He looked back at his reflection once more and his eyes were normal blue.
Turning around, he seemed to have the powerful aura again, "Can one of you explain to me, to what the holy fudge is happening?"646Please respect copyright.PENANADfAhUmyIFg
