The crowd
Some whispers could be heard here and there. However, the majority of people in the crowd were silently waiting for the fight to start. The population in the gathering was mixed. There were old men who were slowly stroking their beards while keeping their eyes focused on the center of the battlefield. Other men were twirling their impressive mustaches and glaring at each other in an intimidating way. A few woman were also in the crowd, wearing sarees and using the pallu to cover their heads. The weather was reinforcing the already tense atmosphere. The sun was indeed burning. Waves of heat were getting the sweat out of our dehydrated bodies. Excited but quiet children who were usually playing around, were all siting cross-legged on the boiling floor next to the wooden fences surrounding the battle area.
When the villagers had told me about this event, I never thought that it would be so special. It was not so different from the feeling one gets when going to a movie or a soccer match. Everybody was thrilled and waiting was part of the fun. I understood that this fight was considered as an entertaining stressbuster. It was gathering people and connecting their emotions. As we were waiting, I was slowly getting contagious to their excitement. My heart was beating faster and I felt a warm sensation in my heart that I assimilated to happiness.
