A start with a fight
I pull myself together. I come out of the room. Ranveer's mom calls me and asks me to check if the groom is prepared. I head to the room where Ranveer is getting ready. On the way there, I see one boy and a girl arguing. The girl is wearing a pattu pavada* with a yellow top and a blue skirt. The boy is wearing a blue shirt and a veatti*. The power of the traditional clothes is that they embellish the people who are wearing them by reinforcing their personalities. They emphasize the elegance of women and the style of men.
Anyway, the girl and the boy are looking really cute in these outfits. They are fighting over some sweets. The boy, who seems to be annoyed, is trying to take the sweets from the girl. The latter is running with a contagious smile. Conflicts are an important element of our existence. Even though, they seem to disrupt our daily routine, they often act on our relationships to strengthen them and make us realize the significance of our bonds. Most of the disputes in life spark because of silly reasons. Our relationship also started with an argument.
At the time, I was thirteen. As my grades were low, my parents wanted me to take tuitions. Sadly for Ranveer, his parents also wanted him to join. The first class was scheduled for a Friday evening, after school. I went to the location. I was tired because I had to get two buses to get there. Furthermore, I was on my nerves as I was not keen on taking classes.
I knocked on the door of the house. A lady took me to a room where there were already some students. Ranveer was there and his round eyes lit up when he saw me. I sat next to him. He was about to say something when a person came behind me. She started to shout :
"How dare you take my place !"
At first, I was not sure she was talking to me but the way she looked at me shed light on the situation.
She carried on shouting:
"Can't you see my bag near the chair ? Don't you have eyes... eyes ?"
Her bag was indeed there. I could not understand why somebody could be irritated for such a silly reason. I asked:
"Is your name written on the chair ? Why don't you sit somewhere else ?"
She came closer to me as if she was about to hit me. The anger was now spread to her entire face. She was frowning, her almond-shaped eyes were wide open and focused on me. I could even hear a teeth grinding. I got up and told with a mocking tone:
"What ? Why are you looking at me like this ? Do you want to hit me ? If you dare hit me, please hit me."
She rushed into me, looked at Ranveer and then slapped me. I can tell you that I will never forget that slap my whole life. I did not hit her back, I did not even tell anything. I was paralysed but moved a little to let her sit. I was angry and ashamed but I could not show it in front of everybody. I sat somewhere else and acted as if I was following the class. I know I reacted wrongly but was her behaviour justified ? That stubbornness to sit next to him seems clear now. Her actions revealed her emotions.
Feelings are always behind a fight,
The nature of the emotions can be linked with desire,
But the opponents' relationship must be tight,
As if the lives of these enemies were tied with a wire,
