Today, I met a person very close to my heart. I should rather say that I saw her. She was walking on the opposite road. As we are in Coronavirus time, everybody was wearing masks. She was also wearing a mask but I was absolutely sure that it was her. Indeed, her almond-shaped eyes were shining with the brightness of the sun and the uniqueness of a star in the sky. I could recognise them in a crowd of hundreds of people. Anyway, I saw her but she would have probably not recognised me even if I had been on the same road. It has been five years, since we last saw each other. I have changed a lot, in terms of personality and physically. She also must have changed. Even, if our eyes had met, she would have ignored me. Indeed, she is far, too far from me. She was with another man, holding his hands. He was probably her boyfriend or her husband. With another hand, she was holding a child, a little girl with those same sparkling eyes.
When I saw her today, the memories of the last time we had met, sprang to my mind. We know each other since we are little as our parents are friends so we are quite close but not too much. Her sister was getting married so we were all invited. We hardly go to marriages because we have very few family members or friends in France. Anyway, we went to the location of the hall. I entered in the celebration place with my family. Everybody looked happy and joyful. A man with his little daughter welcomed us in. As we were wandering in the hall, trying to find a place to sit, unfamiliar people were staring at us. It made me uncomfortable. Then after a few minutes, the sister of the bride welcomed us with a pleasant smile. She looked perfect in her outfit, as if her clothes were just an extension of her body. It had been several months since we met. I went abroad for an internship and then decided to travel more with my friends.
"You sure have changed a lot." She exclaimed while greeting me with a kiss on the cheek that we call 'la bise' in French.
"Yeah, I have travelled a lot lately so indeed, I have changed." I told with a shaky voice.
She took us to a table. We sat and her mother called her. She excused herself and told she had to go to welcome the other guests. As she was heading towards her mother, she turned her face and winked at me. Those eyes just left me speechless. I felt a warm sensation as if my broken heart was starting to heal. After that, a game started. I could not help following her every move. My eyes were following her like a shadow following a person. Of cause, as my family was there, I acted casual and hided my stares in between talks and food. She still had that grace while walking. She was making small steps almost as if she was levitating above the floor. When I had studied about the Greek gods, I had associated each of them with a person I knew. It was a trick to help me remember them. Her natural charm and grace made me think of Aphrodite. Anyway, she entered the game I started. While talking to people and serving food, she would glimpse at me. The moments our eyes met, left an incredible feeling in both of us. It was as if we were both connected through a same unique emotion. As time flew, she finished helping for catering. Therefore, she sat on a chair with her little cousin on her knees. The latter was probably only three years old. She was helping him to go to sleep. She was stroking his head to stop him from crying. By the movements of her lips, I could tell that she started singing him a lullaby. She still carried on our game, staring at me in between lyrics of her song. When I saw her that day, I thought that she would make a wonderful mother. A few years later, I think I was right but unfortunately she chose another man.
