After school we wear plaid shirts to church, we eat s’mores, play games and listen to the bible. During the Bible, most people fall asleep, lol.
Tomorrow I will have dinner with other exchange students and IECs. having mixed feelings. You know, we don’t know each other well. After I came to America I really felt the difficulty of socializing. At church in class at home, sometimes I just couldn’t find the topic. And the language gap is there(I’ve said it several times!), I couldn’t express my mind precisely. Just like writing a diary, if I use Chinese, I could think of another meme, sentence, proverb to connect with my mind. But in English it’s getting harder, if I really wanna express what I thought most of the time I could just google it. But though the vocabulary translation looks correct, sometimes it actually still has differences.
Incidentally using the things for example just right today. During ate orange in biotechnology class I first time know that orange isn’t 橘子! (From my classmate) It’s 柳丁! 橘子is tangerine! I don’t know! If the color orange means 橘色 won’t you think the orange is tangerine? But Chinese people call orange as 橙子 not 柳丁, if I know it better maybe I won’t got it wrong.
Another example is that because of orange we also talked about ships and boats’ difference, ships bigger boats smaller. And then I said that don’t you think ships sound smaller and boats sound bigger? Just right ships and boats start with “s” and “b”. Like a knife, don’t you think the knife looks sharp? Yep, she agreed with the two above, but she couldn’t understand the following: I said moon sounded like mom. She agreed that mom sounded like moon. But she couldn’t really understand why I connected mom and moon. this sentence母親像月亮一樣 has already engraved my DNA, but I couldn’t find the sentence usage in English on the Internet(By the way I couldn’t find the dna usage either). That’s show that sometimes I even couldn’t translate my mind in other words.
I still have another example. Remember the church couple( Not yet but I think soon)? After homecoming parade. I wrote that I felt like a third wheel, right? But that’s time I talked to them was I felt like a light (or bulb), I telled them that that’s what we discribed when we get along with a couple. But they couldn’t really understand. The following is what I found in google:
If someone goes out like a light, they fall asleep or become unconscious very quickly or immediately.
Yep, if I just talking with people, I couldn’t google that it is so actually use wheel in English. Hard, you know. Not only social but English.

放學後我們穿格子襯衫去教堂，吃羊肚菌，玩遊戲，聽聖經。在聖經中，大多數人都睡著了，哈哈。
明天我將與其他交換生和 IEC 共進晚餐。心情複雜。你知道，我們彼此不太了解。來到美國後，我真的感受到了社交的困難。在家裡的課堂上，有時我就是找不到話題。還有語言上的隔閡（我已經說了好幾遍了！），我無法準確地表達我的想法。就像寫日記一樣，如果我用中文，我可以想到另一個模因、句子、諺語來連接我的腦海。但是在英語中它變得越來越難，如果我真的想表達我大部分時間的想法，我可以穀歌它。但是，雖然詞彙翻譯看起來正確，但有時實際上還是有區別的。
