"Charlie, what's happening!?" Emmy's frightened voice pierces the haze I'm in and I'm prodded by a sudden adrenaline rush. We have to get to safety.
"We need to get home, Em." I grab her hand, and she looks at me, alarmed.
"What's happening?" She asks again, and I ignore her. I'll explain later. When we're safe. Inside.
"Em, we need to move. Come on." I pull her towards the exit, hoping to beat the rush of panic that will cause a human traffic jam when the first bomb goes off. She lets me get her out of the south pier, but as soon as we're in the streets of Milyn, she rips her hand out of mine. I go to grab it again but she just slaps my hand away, scowling. I massage my forehead. "We don't have time for this, Em."
"Yes we do if I say we do. What's going on Char." Screaming pierces the air and a floom of smoke rises from the second ring in the distance. Flying machines rip through the sky, dropping bombs. I grab Emmy and fling her over my shoulder. I'm not very strong, but I'm strong enough to get her out of here. She screams, hitting my back.
"Charlie I swear if you don't put me down right this instance-" Another bomb goes off a few blocks over and I hit the nearest door icon. Luckily it's open and I lug Emmy and myself in and close the door behind us after setting her down. I start dragging things in front of the door icon and go to find the basement. "Where are you going?"
"To find the basement." I glance around the corner, trying to find a door icon.
"Why?" Emmy rubs her head. I might have accidentally hit it on something in my rush to get to safety, but at least she's still alive. For now. I hope what I say next won't end in her doing something stupid like trying to be a hero. Emmy's too kind for her own good.
"Milyn is being bombed. We're under seige, Em."
