Gym class. It's my least favorite class because i'm not athletic as everybody else is. I much prefer sitting inside a library and picking up a good book to read rather than run outside in the intense heat. It's only spring, but it feels like summer already. Plus, I used to live in Europe and it's always cold there so i'm not used to the heat just yet.
As I was putting my shoes on so I can head outside to the track with my class, I overheard a couple guys talking. I didn't really pay them any attention until I heard a couple of their words.
"Why does he wear that collar around his neck?" One guy said.
"I know. What does he think he is? A dog?" The second guy said.
"I wonder if everybody in Europe wears those." The first guy said.
"Or maybe he just wears it because he likes to pretend he's an animal." The second guy said.
"What a freak." The first guy said.
I sighed as I gently touched the blue and red collar around my neck. I'm not exactly wearing it for fashion or to pretend to be a dog. I wear it because...it sorta reminds me of my dad. My dad got it for me when I was little. He told me to keep it because the day would come where i'm able to have a pet and he would get one for me. Years and years went by and just when it was about to be my sixteen birthday, my dad got really sick and ended up in the hospital. He had planned to get me a dog then, but since he was sick, he couldn't do it and now he's dead. That's when I decided to wear the collar because it's a piece of my dad that I want to keep forever.
I sighed then headed out of the locker room and out to the track. Today in gym class, we're supposed to run around the track a few times. I jogged around the track a couple times when suddenly, I started to feel dizzy. I was breathing harder than usual and it felt like my heart was about to burst out of my chest. I slowed my pace to a stop and stood there as I watched my eyesight get blurry. Then I collapsed onto my knees and fell to the ground, passed out.

When I woke up, I wasn't outside anymore. Instead of feeling the heat, I felt the coolness of the air condition. Instead of being sprawled out on the hard ground, I was sprawled out on a soft and comfy bed. I slowly sat up and looked around the room when I finally realized where I was at.
"Am I...Is this..."
"You're in the infirmary." The nurse said as she walked up to me with a smile.
I stared at her. "The infirmary?" I repeated.
She nodded. "Yes. You passed out during gym class and was brought here. Tell me, did you eat lunch earlier? Because the gym teacher told me that she was surprised you passed out after only running two laps."
"Oh...Um...No. I didn't really eat lunch..." I mumbled.
"I see. Well, make sure you eat something if you're planning on going back to gym class." She said then walked over to her desk.
I sighed then looked down when a thought came to me. I looked over at the nurse.
"You said someone brought me in here. Who was it? Was it the gym teacher?" I asked.
The nurse flipped through her piles of paper and shook her head.
"No. It was someone who's in your class."
I nodded. "Oh. What's their name?"
The nurse stopped flipping and just sat there, thinking.
"Hm...I think his name was...Rei Kanagawa. Yeah. That's it." She said then went back to work.
"Oh...I see." I said.
Rei Kanagawa...I don't know who that is, but he's in my class, apparently.
"Okay. Thank you. I think i'll head back to gym class now." I said, standing up.
"Alright. Be careful next time alright?" She said.
I nodded then left out of the infirmary.
I'm not sure who Rei Kanagawa is, but I feel like finding out. At least to say thank you for taking me to the infirmary. He didn't even have to, but he was nice enough to care about me and to take me to the nurse. I feel like I owe him somehow.
