God Saves
He wakes up completely groggy. The lights are kind of blinding, but his eyes finally adjust to the glare. He notices he is laying in and unfamiliar bed surrounded by medical equipment. He is even alone and has no memory of what’s going on. He must have been drop dead drunk to not have much memory and end up in a hospital. A beeper starts going off with a flashing light and he sees doctors peer in and smile seeing him awake. He then sees his beautiful fiancé come charging in too his side almost crying. What was all their problem? She starts to explain the situation to him. She tells him about how he broke his arm. He looks and sees a horrible disfiguring scar but that still isn’t bad enough to be like this. She then explains how he has broken half of his face and there has been a tremendous amount of reconstruction. He starts to worry but seeing her small grin helps a little. She then looks away shaking her head and drops the grin. She continually starts thanking god and he can’t help but plead with her to stop and explain. She slowly stops and looking at him with tears in her eyes just begging to be unleashed. She explains that those injuries were minor in the long run. She explains that he has suffered a very bad head injury. She explains how he broke his skull and was missing a big chunk for a while. She continues with how his brain took quite a bit of damage and nothing will be the same from now on. She ends with how it’s been more than six months since it happened, and he was practically in a coma that whole time. She starts looking away again but seems to be holding back the tears. He looks astounded and can’t fully process how grave the situation is. He utters one phrase and she starts to have another break down and starts crying again causing her mother to rush in. all he had asked was, “how am I still even alive?” the mother-in-law explains that repeatedly through the first bit he wasn’t, several times. She explains that his entire family has been to visit and everyone, hundreds of people, have been praying for his health and recovery and she’d make sure they continue. Then as her daughter walks out to clear herself, she explains something puzzling to him that he can’t even help. She tells him when everything first started, the doctors had exclaimed how he might not make it, but she says she heard a very loud, strong, thunderous voice say something simple. She says it said, “he isn’t done yet!” She says she couldn’t find who said it or even from where, but she was filled with a calming feeling. She says god saved him and she thanks him for that even if he won’t. Over months of visitation from his family, he also meets several friends in the hospital whom are believers in god. They even ask him if he would like to go to service with them and then will help him during if he needs. Having never been a believer before and with no reason now, he continues to shoot them down. He becomes used to being called a walking miracle and even hears people praising and thanking god. These thoughts never faze him, and he continues to push forward in his recovery therapy. He never thinks twice about why he is doing so well and only questions when he will be done. On a random night with no real event having happened or happening, he feels like he sees a faded man but to faded to tell his looks. He is off in the distance of view, but he can tell that this man is looking his way. He hears him chuckling and doing what he assumed was shaking his head. Months go by and after being released by the hospital to do recovery at home, and he starts to feel depressed when he notices he has almost no friends. He decides that he will give a church a shot just for the community. Today is this day and he does everything he can to be ready for disappointment. He is even going with one of his only friends and his wife. All prepared he shows up at a small rundown building. He decided not to pay attention and attends anyways. After the opening worship music, which he surprisingly enjoyed although done terribly, he meets a man whom he discovered would change his life. This man, the pastor of that church, says a sermon that was in credibly impactful. He almost feels as though someone has taken his heart and stamped the word Welcome on it largely. He has decided at this moment to devote everything he can into the being called god and his heart pulls a grinch move by growing too large. Months go by and after choosing a permanent church, he makes tons of much needed friends there. He learns lots and discovers a feeling not experienced before. He learns that all this was thanks to Gods influence and every time he thinks of it, he wants to fall to his knees in thanks. Now that he has discovered a love in the lord, he has discovered some things. He finds that not only if his friendship life better, but so is his family life and especially his handicapped life. He finds that not only does he feel tremendously better, but some things are easier also. One day after accomplishing a task he thought was impossible, he falls to his knees. Starting to cry he looks to the sky and screams out a thanks. As he finishes his thanks, he has a view of that faded guy he has seen before. The view is of this man as he stops his chuckling and smiles big. And give an easy to recognize head nod. This view goes away and shaking his head he thanks the lord that his wife wasn’t around to hear him scream or she would worry. One day, while on a casual stroll he notices something. After paying attention closer, he has decided that this woman needs help. She needs more help than he can give, but just as god saved him, he wanted to save her. He approaches her slowly and makes sure he has her attention while telling her “Jesus said to love one another, so how do you need my love today? I am Joshua and it would humble me if I could brighten your day and lighten your load” She smiles faintly telling him her name. then while shaking her head she says, “I don’t know why but I feel like it would be ok to tell you”. He smiles motioning for them to sit so he can listen better to her story of death. She finishes and making sure she is done he asks, “is it ok if I tell you my opinion?” She nods yes so he continues on “now I don’t mean to preach to you or anything madam, but this is my honest opinion. You are a wonderful woman and your heart is large that you trust a stranger with your life. This being said, we have had enough death in our lives. I mean that by the fact that Jesus loved us so much that he died to wipe our sins”. He goes on and on telling her the outs of what a death would bring and how if she lives the righteous way then she will have eternal life. He gasps and stops saying “I am so sorry. I could go all night with this, but I will not push that on you. I’m sorry for wasting your time”. She’s smiles hugging him before he could even shy away. Thanking him and practically crying she gives him a bullet exclaiming “you have done the work of the lord and pulled me from this sin. Here is your trophy of victory”. She then turns leaving and all he can do is stare between the bullet and her thinking nothing, but god deserves the trophy. Feeling excited he ran as he could, back home to his wife. While laying down with his wife for the night, he starts telling her about this woman today. About how, thanks to the lord, he was able to pull her from a great sin. She smiles telling him how proud she was, and they tried to drift into sleep. Closing his eyes to sleep he sees that same man from earlier. He looks the same but clearer now. The man smiles and gives a thumb up and says “good job. I am always there Joshua”. He then turns and walks off. Joshua shoots straight up in bed wondering what just happened but being overcome by a relaxed feeling he lets it go. He says simply in a calm voice as he falls to slumber “thank you I am”.
