Lola stares intensely at the woman's face as her eyelids peel back to reveal her hazy pupils.
The woman appears to be very startled as her eyes frantically search her surroundings for a clear answer on her whereabouts. Lola peers at the stressed tears running down her face as her sobs escaped her.
"Are you okay?" Lola worriedly begs the woman for some conversation which isn't reciprocated as her focus was elsewhere. Their eyes slowly begin to connect as Lola can finally make out more of her flushed face.
"I-Is the man g-gone?" She hiccups trying to pull herself together, but the fear begins to consume her shaky movements. The woman's hands feel their way around her neck, "He... I-I couldn't breathe, I thought he was going to kill me."
The only thing Lola can think to do is quite simple, to calm her frantic nerves.
Hug her.
Lola leaps to spread her arms around the shaky figure, laying her face on her clothed shoulder, "He's gone, it's going to be alright." The woman allows her arms to dangle in the awkwardness of the one-sided action, before embracing the comfort she is being offered.
The warmth of the duo's arms began to separate after a while as Lola separates herself from the woman. She places her hands on the woman's pale face wiping away the tears she has shed.
"Do you want to tell us what happened? If you're unable to, you can rest right here and we'll bring you some supper," Lola's hands massage the woman's head to soothe her. But the woman nods signaling that she can do so, sitting up as she sniffles.
"Um... I was running until I found a place to sit. If it wasn't for that distracting me from my thoughts then he probably would've gotten me. I tried fighting him off the best I could until you got there. Then as we were running away I just couldn't take it anymore," she clutches the fabric of her dress as she can feel the faucet of her eyes begin to let her tears leak through.
The woman looks up at Lola with a tear-stained smile, "If you hadn't gotten there in time... Who knows what he would've done to me. T-Thank you, I don't know why you continue to help me but thank you."
Lola beams a peaceful smile as she reaches for her hand, "I vow to you now, to help you until your memories are restored or until you are able to support yourself. And I promise this isn't from a place of pity."
The woman chuckles poorly as she swipes away at the ticklish tears, "I have to ask why are you fighting for me so much, you know nothing about me."
"I've been asking that very question," Marshel sighs loudly interrupting their heart-to-heart.
Lola serves him a glare as she launches the rag toward his face before turning to smile in the woman's direction. He quickly ducks and the rag sails past his head, barely missing his nose.
"Don't mind that asshole," she yells the last bit in his general direction as he fades away to the kitchen.
Lola shrugs her tired shoulders with a grin, "I guess... I just can't help myself."
A blanket of silence covers the room, not with uneasiness, but with understanding. Each of them feels comfortable finally being able to take a breath. Not until Marshel lifts the blanket with an announcement and a helping hand for the woman, "I've finished supper, so come along and eat."
She stares at Marshel and his outstretched hand, as he gestures for her to take it.
She is overwhelmed by his generosity and even with the murky air surrounding them, he still offers her a helping hand.
The woman knows not everything between them hasn't been resolved, she accepts the kindness as she leaves the couch.
