My parents dug their heels in, insisting it was my duty to make a match with Alpha Jonas of the Steel Waters pack and have his cubs. I fought back, and my parents grudgingly let me train to become an underwater ballerina, though they never let slip an opportunity to tell me it was just a habit, and that I WOULD do as they told me.

But I was determined to not let them tell me what to do, no matter what it took.

Being a teenager is never fun. Especially when you're constantly being compared to your younger sister. Faith was everything I wasn't- she had the looks, the mate, and the inheritance.

I had nothing, nothing except a deep love of the ocean and the underwater world. No one seemed to care too much what I did, so I did what I did best - dive right to the bottom and let the water take me. At least all I had to worry about was running out of air before I made it back to the surface.

My grandparents on Dad's side disagreed, and when Zach was two, they performed some diabolical legal shenanigans to get him placed under their custody.

But I never stopped believing that one day he'd come back to me. And when he did, I vowed to make damn sure we'd never be parted again.

From the day we'd met as cubs, Jethro had always been one of my best friends, and we'd made a promise that, when the time came, we'd declare each other as mates.

That all came to a crashing halt the day of my sixteenth birthday when Pearl stole him from me, in front of all our guests, making me a laughing stock in my own pack.

It was a good thing my half-brother Jackson was there to pick up the pieces. He got me in a way no one else did, and not even a mate and child could keep long-buried feelings coming to the surface.

Being the oldest child was not easy, especially when you had seven brattystepsisters to deal with. And it was even worse when you added in the fact I was a completely normal human girl, without even the supernatural abilities granted to werewolves born without wolves. It made life... interesting, to say the least.

But then my father and stepmother were killed in an accident, and my dear sisters decided to take charge. That was the moment I realised things were about to get a whole lot worse.

Mecha fighting had become a serious sport in the years following the Last Great War. With hostilities suspended, the giant robots were pulled out of mothballs and reactivated to engage in fighting that didn't involve the loss of life and limb. The pilots were all on friendly terms, and even those who'd faced each other across the battlefield got together for beers and pizza at least once a week.

Their supporters, on the other hand... well, they tended to get a bit fiesty if their mecha lost, and they didn't hesitate in taking out their frustrations verbally, and sometimes with fists.

Then you had the truly die-hard fans, who'd do anythingfor their chance to meet their idol.

But it was all in a day's work for your regular mecha pilot. It was when you got into the big leagues, however, that you really started to get noticed. And you got allthe perks and lurks that came with becoming an instant celebrity overnight.

And sometimes, the lurks outweighed the perks.

After an accident claimed my body, my brain was preserved and put in a vat filled with a special liquid to keep me alive. I'd ruled well and nobly ever since, and it was now over a hundred years since I'd taken the throne. My policies had changed the kingdom into an empire rather than a criminal wasteland, and I was revered far and wide for being above all the usual petty schemes that marked a king's rule.

But now my parliament was trying to limit a ruler's tenure to one hundred years in the event they were reduced to a brain in a vat, and I was furious.

It was time to teach these upstarts I could still rule well and wisely, and bedamnedto their desire for power!

Getting kidnapped by a rival alpha wasn't the way I'd planned on starting my day. But I had to hand it to Jethro - he made being a prisoner actually pretty decent, and I had the run of the house. I was certainly treated with a damn sight more respect than I was at home, and that was saying something.

Of course, I knew I was only going to be kept prisoner until the ransom Jethro asked of my parents was paid. But when they came to pay it, they were so damned arrogant about the whole affair that I told them to shove their money up their asses; I was staying with Jethro.

Jethro, surprisingly, backed me in the matter. My parents ... not so much. So when they found out I was determined to stay, they took it as a declaration of war, and promised to pay Jethro back the only way they knew how; in blood.

But I wasn't going to go back to their packhouse. I'd made too many friends, and I wasn't going to have that taken away from me.

Now I had to learn how to rule an entire commonwealth. And I hadn't the faintest idea where to start.

When the band of heroes came through my village, I found myself inspired to join them. Their cause seemed so noble that I really couldn't help myself.

The problems started when I found out they planned on vanquishing The Eternal Consumer, to stop him from destroying the world and remaking it in his own image. It was a grand enough cause, to be sure, but there was one huge wrench in their plans

Every time Mister Impossible Sentinel and I fought, the battles were the stuff of legends. Mister Impossible Sentinel was a man of many skills, and I always strived to improve my own after each clash. I was, after all, Eva Destruction, and I had to live up to my reputation!

But after our last fight, I realised Mister Impossible Sentinel was a bit ... off, to put it mildly. His blinding genius seemed blunted, and he made several rookie errors that might've otherwise gotten him killed were I not so startled at his incompetence.

After much thought, I decided enough was enough.

I had to get to the bottom of this, one way or another.

I wanted my nemesis to regain his skill so we could continue writing history with our legendary battles.

This story was inspired by reading other werewolf stories online, so I figured I'd give it a go!
