Word had it that when a particular cottage in Qingqiu was shaking, it was due to a particular immortal wife screaming at her husband. "TIAN-YU! You hide my robes one more time, I will-" She reached for the pillows, only to see them vanish abruptly with the flick of his fingers. Bullying at its finest. She reached to punch her husband with her fists but he just said laughingly, "I thought someone didn't have the habit of wearing clothes to bed? Now you'll suffer at my revenge!"
"That was a long time ago," Zhi Xun defended herself, only to writhe from Tian Yu's sensual kisses and tickles. At least she wouldn't have to remain sore for a long time after a long night. The period of soreness that she had would not exceed normally, a few hours.
"Don't you want it?" He teased further and prodded in between her spread legs with a finger. She felt her body twitch and tremble before his powerful magic. Before she knew it, she was already opening herself up to his entry. It had been the best morning sex she ever had, as he pounded inside her wildly, causing the sheets and blankets of their bed to gravitate in the air momentarily from the vigour of their actions. As her moans filled the air, he continued to ram inside her with his increased endurance. Their newfound sexuality had been so far-fetched that it was imperceivable.
"I love you," she said as he pulled out, and with a flick of his fingers, the almost-ruined cottage fixed itself magically. The torpedo he had just released earlier had been on the verge of crumbling the cottage, she thought.
At the DongFeng couple's orders two weeks ago, he had been occupied with singlehandedly training her to ready her for their anticipated mission. As expected, two immortal scholars, Ziling and Zining, assigned to the mortal world of Yuqi had failed to report to the Sky Kingdom after more than 100 days missing in Yuqi. Their role was to record the good and bad deeds of the mortals to be submitted to the Imperial Sovereign Wenchang. Each immortal had a band-like tracker similar to fitness bands of 2020 assigned to their respective immortal ID. By utilising Donghua's TianTong tracking system, Donghua confirmed they had indeed run into danger in Yuqi, and perished. Unlike mortals, when immortals met their end, their primordial spirits would 'feather', either evaporate or vanish into little fluffy bits, hence called the process of feathering.
The DongFeng couple wanted them to investigate the cause of their death, find out the existent threat, and at the same time, assume position as imperial constables. As a number of immortals who had recently ascended had failed to report to Donghua for the appointment of their roles in the Sky Kingdom, they became prime suspects for having escaped to the mortal world and playing a part in creating evil within. Since Zhi Xun was able to handle moderate-leveled spells now, and had a basic understanding of the academic theories while excelling in literary arts and languages, Fengjiu recommended them to be sent on their mission and assume position as the imperial constables of Taichen Palace, the equivalent of the plainclothes CID police in the 2000s. Such constables were often sent in a pair, a male and a female, to avoid suspicion and also, enhance their collaboration, since a male and female immortal had distinct differences and capabilities independent of each other. They were equipped with high-technological gadgets, weapons and armour to assist in apprehend the rogue immortals that would not yield easily, and if they were unable to tackle a rogue superior to them in power, they would be able to activate a signal to call for imperial guards under Yehua's command, to capture and even annihilate the offenders, if necessary.
"Since your training is 80% complete and due to complete by this weekend, and we don't have to go to the academy since it's the semester break, what are your plans for today? Perhaps some date with your hubby?" he teased as he watched her apply her magical techniques to dust and iron an outfit, presumably what she would be dressing in later.
"I'll have lunch with Yu Yin," she said. "They just had their anniversary. Hopefully, a baby is on the way soon. I've even got her a gift."
"Ah, Yu Yin." He was having trouble pronouncing this name, simply because he had known her for decades with her mortal name. It had broken them to know of her sudden passing at 24 years old. They couldn't grieve much or attend her funeral due to Ye Ran's impending birth. Following her death, Su Mo's corpse had been discovered at the beach in Bali where he had previously met her, and his identity had been confirmed by the Indonesian authorities.
"We'll be heading to Café Immortals at Xiang Lin. Care to join us later?" she said with a wink.
"Okay, I'll come by at 10. Text me," he said as he walked towards the hills to practice his sword-fighting skills.
At Café Immortals, Yu Yin was glad to be reunited with her good friend cum former sister-in-law, but since returning to her own immortal body, she had trouble recalling in full what had happened while she was in the body of her mortal incarnate. Fortunately, she had bits of pieces of her memory which they were able to work out. Even as immortals, they had came to be the closest of friends. Tian Yu had much difficulty in realising his former sister's wild nature, but was still glad to see her again. It was ironical that she was now the older one, having been sent to the mortal world at 20,000 immortal years old for her mischief.
They bonded over coffee and Zhi Xun inquired about her newly married life. Yu Yin teased back that she had been married for a year as well, and Zhi Xun smiled at the thought of their wildest and most sensual moments. Deep inside her, she wondered if Su Moye had been the same with Yu Yin. Perhaps it was because she had been born from part of a shadow of a ninetailed fox that she had been so desirous and sexually needy. What Tian Yu probably didn't know in their former lifetime in the Fanyin Valley was how she had her own needs satisfied, behind the closed doors of her own room. He probably didn't need to know, either.
"Do we have any good news soon?" Zhi Xun teased. "I hope that he is a good lover." Yu Yin leaned over and whispered into Zhi Xun's ear. "Wow, that's crazy," she whispered back. "I thought magic was enough to suffice. Role-playing and handcuffs are so 80s." Yu Yin turned as red as a tomato as she saw Tian Yu approach.
She greeted him as Tian Yu, and he greeted by her immortal name as well. They spoke about the different immortals who had been around Qingqiu and the West Sea, and Tian Yu mentioned the missing scholar immortals, watching the colour drain from Yu Yin's cheeks. "That sounds scary. This task doesn't seem out of the ordinary. Will you reconsider?"
Tian Yu shook his head. "We've decided," he said, and asked for the bill.
.........................................................................
Siming showed them around the mortal world of Yuqi, a magical mortal world set in an ancient setting that unlike the current modern worlds, had a lower chance of backfiring due to the nature of that world. It involved a mixture of magic and melee use among the people, as witchcraft had been less prominent and inherited from generation to generation, all hence not every mortal would be endowed with the ability to cast magic, like an ancient setting of Harry Potter. Due to the use of primitive magic, it had been harder to track an immortal, and the offenders would go untraced.
They were set up in the Crimson Feathers Village by Siming, as he identified to him a mortal couple who had just passed away a moment ago, Mr and Mrs Ying. Tian Yu and Zhi Xun were to take over their roles by way of a correction spell that Siming cast on them to modify the images of them that everyone in Yuqi had in their minds, to their current image. The couple owned a shop and survived solely on carpentry and weaving. Siming also removed the corpses and dissolved the bodies with his magic, creating specks of their remains to be sent back to Lord Xie by winged bird messengers.
The villagers seldom used magic in their day-to-day life, and mostly relied on their strength to perform laborious and menial tasks such as farming, construction, cooking, weaving, carpentry and so on. Since Tian Yu had formal training since his mortal days and was well-versed in art and crafts, it had been not an issue for him to handle the role of the husband as a carpenter, and Zhi Xun had enjoyed the weaving lessons by Zhi Nü, the weaving goddess herself. This time, she was glad they had attended cultural lessons in the academy, to allow them to blend in with the population since it was after all, medieval times that they were in. He had teased her, "Didn't you hate academy lessons?"
She replied, "Fortunately, this came in handy." They also got to explore the open spaces of the grassy fields in the absence of skyscrapers, and enjoyed a ride on a horse carriage without the feeling of being trapped in a metal enclosure, had things done without having to rely on a computer or her smartphone (which unfortunately she struggled to use the abacus), but the sweetest among all the things she experienced was how her husband would often utilise his culinary skills to prepare their three meals including desserts for her.
"Breakfast in bed, please," she teased as she woke up in his arms while curled around his magnificent toned body. Immediately, he knew what she meant. It could be as quick and thrilling as she wanted, since it was summer and they often slept in the nude, after all. What they were concerned about was the lack of soundproof walls to block out their music as they rocked each other wildly every morning and night. A complaint from the neighbours every few days for causing their lack of sleep would happen soon, she thought, and laughed.
But one day, after they had spent forty nine days in the mortal world, she looked through the books of the business, and the belongings of the deceased couple. She firmly suspected something was wrong, and that the couple didn't die normally. If they really were murdered, or their deaths were caused by someone, and the killer was out on the loose, it could be that he or she would come back and try to kill them again.
She hadn't expected to be caught in this couple's drama, or what would eventually unfold in their fake mortal lives. Though she was a mortal living in medieval times in two of her lifetimes, she barely recalled her experiences from that era. Since she remembered her twenty-first century mortal life the most, it had made a big difference for her to have 'time-travelled' back into the power. She had always been liberal and sensual, and these traditional and conservative practices didn't appeal to her.
"I'm with you. Together, we can get through this, and I'll ensure we will get back to the immortal realm safely," he promised and reassured her with a pat on her back. She leaned deeper into his arms as he fondled her lovingly. She believed his words. They were in it together, and they would face the problem before their eyes together. She wasn't scared with him around. Anyway, they were now immortals, and imperial constables, not mortals.
He gazed into the starry skies within her lovely eyes, and told her he loved her, kissing her again and again. It was just a new journey for them, everything that had happened since ascending. First the immortal marriage bonding them together for eternity, then the academy studies and learning magic, and now the tasks before them. It had been marvelous how she entered his life, whether she was Aranya or Zhi Xun, and brought him all the excitement and surprises.
