The girl splashed around excitedly in the pool with her mother standing off to the side, watching. She loved Wednesdays. Every Wednesday after school, her mother would let her have as much fun in the pool as she wanted, then treat her to pizza and ice cream after.
Today was different; her father came over early. He hugged her mother and said they needed to talk. His face was serious, like it was something her mother wouldn't like. Her mother looked at him and nodded, then called her older sister over.
