The steps were sloping and wide enough to hold half a boot, making the ascent trickier and slipperier. Every few steps someone would slip, but still they pressed on. At the top of the steps was a sloping mud path, the first half of which was swampy sludge, drastically slowing their progress.
However, as the group moved forward, the ground became solid and rocky. They walked on for another 10 minutes before coming to a wide, flat land filled with fruit trees and short crops.
"And Grandma used to hike up here every other day?!"
"Yeah."
"She was 80!"
