In our previous blog posts, we talked about giving constructive feedback to help other writers to improve their stories. In this post, we will boil down to 3 helpful principles of giving constructive writing critiques, but they will work for just about any kind of feedback situation, so feel free to use them anywhere!
When giving constructive criticism,
1. Go in with the right attitude - to help other writers create better stories and motivation.
2. Critique the story, not the storyteller - use the "3Cs" (Compliment - Critique - Compliment) to point out the positives as well as the problem.
3. Mention One Small Good Thing about the writer's story or writing style.
While these principles are self-explanatory, we would like to emphasize #3 - mention One Small Good Thing. This is not only a productive praise for writers, but will also make writers gradually realize their strengths and uniqueness and help them to improve as writers with style one step at a time.
Let's practice these principles and help each others' stories!
Have a great weekend!
