"Rose! Do you want to play with me?" he offered. 709Please respect copyright.PENANAVnD9UJLjSt
"Of course!" I smiled at him. I had finally made a friend. I felt proud of myself. We played swings the whole day - I only sat as he pushed the swing for me.
When we were elementary schoolers, Jay would help me with my Math homeworks.
"Ugh, I hate Math!" I whined, looking at my homework.
"Calm down," Jay laughed. "I'll help you. C'mere." And I started calling him Mr. Math-Professor.709Please respect copyright.PENANAhOXg4RFYDd
When we were middle schoolers, Jay would sit with me at lunch. "I'm bored," Jay stated as he sat down.
"Why don't you go play football with your friends?" I asked.
"Well, firstly, I don't enjoy being sweaty when I still have like three periods left. And secondly, I have another friend here, and I really love her company."709Please respect copyright.PENANAoNZDHhAWS6
When we were high schoolers, Jay would walk me to school and from my school to my house.
"New shoes?" Jay asked, raising an eyebrow. 709Please respect copyright.PENANAeeBuIASYpg
"Yup," I replied.
"I like it," Jay approved. That was actually something to be proud of, because Jay's tastes in shoes was just whoa!709Please respect copyright.PENANA4o2FGedvgX
But now... We were adults. And the next day was Valentine's. And Valentine's day was my birthday. And many boys had asked me out today, but there was only one person that I wanted to go out with.
And that person suddenly appeared. And he was walking to me. That person was Jay, my childhood friend. We never separated, anyways. And he already admitted he liked me, too.
"Rose, will you go out with me?" Jay asked with a flower on his hand. I took the flower from him, it was a red rose - my favourite flower. I sniffed on it and noticed it was fake.
"Okay, I will. But I want a real red rose," I simply replied.
"But, Rose, there aren't many roses here," Jay protested.
"Do you want to go out with me or no?" I asked him. Jay stayed quiet.709Please respect copyright.PENANAPekI1Y6aBq
"Good. Tonight. Six PM," I told him.
It was weird that I set the date as today instead of tomorrow; after all, Valentine's day was tomorrow. But for some reason, I just wanted to.
I walked to my car and my bodyguard drove me home. I was so lost in thought that I did not notice us arriving, and my bodyguard had been holding the car door open for a while now.
I finally hopped out the car and said a quick thank-you before going inside my house.
Even though I didn't show it, I was very excited for this date. I knew it wasn't right for me to tell him to find me a real rose, but I was trying to play the hard-to-get game.
"Let's see..." I mumbled as I opened my wardrobe.
A few hours later...
"I can't do this!" I decided and fell onto the bed. I did not know picking a dress for a date was this hard.
"Sis? You okay?" I heard my brother asked.
"Not really," I replied. He entered my bedroom.
"What's got you so worked up?" he asked.
"A date."
"Ah, a date. My little sister is finally growing up," he teased.709Please respect copyright.PENANAgzyciPbnB4
"Shut up, Nate. Help me if you can, and if you cannot, then please leave me in my misery."
"When is the date?"
"Today, 6 PM."
"Honey, that's in ninty minutes."709Please respect copyright.PENANA3vLsAdUJeO
"Wait, what?!" I literally shouted.
"Yeah, and I need to go. Just pick something comfortable and suitable. You're going out with Jay, right? I'm certain he likes everything you wear. See you later!" Nate advised while going outside of my room.
In the end, I picked a pink dress that had little red roses on it.
When I heard the bell signaling a guest, I ran down with my heels. I opened the door and saw Jay.
"Where is my rose?" I asked the moment I saw him. Alright, that was a little moment-ruiner.
"You see, I decided to give you the rose tomorrow because it's your birthday tomorrow. You know, to make everything more special and stuff," he explained awkwardly.
I didn't know how delayed roses could make a birthday more special, but since I was really looking forward to this date, I decided to let it slide.
We walked to his car - thank goodness he had one, I was not going to sit on a motorcycle, I hate those.
The date was perfect, and in the end, I reminded Jay about the rose. I just wanted a rose from Jay. Not too much, was it? It's just, rose is a symbol of love and to get that from your lover - it must be amazing.
"Of course, princess. I'll get it for you. See you on school tomorrow," Jay said.
"Yeah. See you," I replied and closed the door. I smiled to myself.709Please respect copyright.PENANATud4tAEwDL
But I didn't expect the news that hit me the next day. Jay had gotten in an accident.
I instantly drove to the hospital he was in and asked for his room number. The nurse gave it almost instantly, perhaps seeing my frantic self.
I ran to the room and opened the door to see his family. They gave us an alone time, knowing how close we were.
"J-Jay, what happened?" I asked.
"My condition is really bad. I'm going to die sooner or later," Jay stated.
"I prefer later," I said, my eyes watering at the sight of him.709Please respect copyright.PENANAmpeEqfzWKx
"I was going to a flower shop to buy you a a rose when the car hit me... I'm fine, though. I have your rose with me." Jay smiled and took it from the other table.
"J-Jay, thank you..."709Please respect copyright.PENANAyqjLrmpV2C
"It's okay. Like I said, I'm going to die sooner or later. And I think I'll die happy now, knowing I finally fulfilled one of your wishes, my princess. I love you." Those were the last words from him.
The last words from the man I loved.
And this rose...
This rose was the first and last rose I've ever recieved.
