On the other hand, Jay didn't really fancy Jason, Ann's crush. They were just as close as Jay was to Rose. Jason didn't look like a bad guy or anything, but there was something different about him that made Jay a bit cautious.
Of course, it could just be his imagination or something.
Jay sat down on his chair and looked at the view. It was very beautiful up there, but not as beautiful as his Rose. Jay let out a long, dreamy sigh the one you would hear people who were in love let out. And he smiled softly, picturing his Rose in his mind.
Jay was certain the view would be more beautiful at night. Personally, he thought that almost everything looked much more beautiful at night. Even his Rose looked much more beautiful under the moonlight.
Jay and Rose actually had a lot of differences, now that he thought about it. Jay preferred night, while Rose preferred day. Jay preferred autumn, while Rose preferred spring. Jay was poor, while Rose was extremely rich. Jay was just a loner, while Rose was the most popular girl in their school. But they matched and that was all that mattered.
Jay looked at his watch. It was almost six. Rose was supposed to arrive in a few minutes or something... That was if she decided to come. She might have decided not to come... 'Rose isn't going to ditch me, right?' He started to panic.
Jay looked around him. He had put so much effort for this date. If Rose decided that she didn't like him, she would at least message him about it, right? Right?
"Jay?"
Jay instantly looked behind him where Rose was standing in her favourite red dress. Jay thought he would faint because of how beautiful Rose looked that night.
Honestly, Jay didn't know how to describe the dress - he didn't know much about dresses. He wasn't sure what this type of dress was called. The dress was simple, but Rose made it look special. It was just plain red and it reached Rose's knees. A red sash was circling her waist, just below her chest.
And the pair of shoes she wore looked a bit hurtful, but Rose was the one person Jay knew that actually liked high heels and didn't use them just to look pretty.
To put it simply, Rose looked beautiful and charming.
Jay walked down the stairs to her and then they just looked at each other's eyes for a while. Rose's eyes seemed so captivating. Her red eyes was really beautiful and reflected the moonlight. They really matched Rose's outfit.
"Rose," Jay breathed. Rose smiled softly at him who offered his hand at her. She took his hand and then they walked up the stairs like it was some isle and they were getting married.
Up the stairs were nothing that pretty, just a table and two chairs that Jay had set up, and food that Jay made. Of course, Ann helped. Quite a lot, in fact. She was the one who somehow managed to make his mother let Jay to not go to school that day. She also helped with the chairs and table, and helped a bit with the cooking.
Ann didn't know much about cooking. She wasn't interested... Okay, she was a bit scared of fire... Okay, she was extremely scared of the fire. She flinched every time she heard the stove being turned on. Jay would prefer to get a B on his quiz than having to teach her how to cook.
Another thing Ann helped with was the envelope. Of course, that part was nearly as important as everything else. Yeah, Jay could just send Rose a message over phone, but he didn't have a phone. He only used his house phone, and it couldn't send messages - or at least Jay didn't think there was an option for that.
Jay pulled out a chair for Rose and she sat down. She looked back and smiled at him. Jay smiled back and went to sit down himself. Not much words were spoken between the two, but you could see from afar that both of them were in love.
"Why did you ask me to go on a date with you? And why on Monday of all days?" Rose finally spoke, breaking the calming silence over them. She liked silence, yes, but she was starting to feel a bit less confident because Jay was looking very intently at her.
Jay smiled as he gave her his reply, "Because."
He truly had no reason he could say. All he knew was that he was in love with Rose, but Rose already knew that. Love made him do crazy, stupid things, but Rose also already knew that. Therefore, Rose was supposed to figure out the reason why he asked her to go on a date with him in the first place.
While the reason why it was on Monday, Jay wasn't even certain what the reason was. He suddenly got an idea of this date on Saturday, so he called Rose with his house phone, then he started setting things up with Ann on Sunday when Rose was out with her parents.
Then, Jay decided that he needed to get this over with as fast as he could, because he couldn't contain his feelings about Rose anymore. He was losing control. Sometimes he would just stare at the wall and Rose's face would appear out of nowhere.
Jay had been thinking too much of Rose, and he wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not, but his quiz scores were getting worse. Then, Jay knew he needed Rose to be his.
"Jay, please, just tell me. What exactly do you have in mind? I know you have a goal in your mind when you decided to do this, but please tell me what that goal is?" Rose asked with her puppy eyes.
Jay chuckled. "Oh, Rose, my beautiful Rose, can you please eat the pizza first, then we can talk? I'm a bit starving here," he said, grinning. He just loved the expressions Rose made when she was feeling a certain feeling.
Rose rolled her eyes, but nodded. Then, they ate their dinner in silence.
It wasn't that Jay didn't want to speak or anything, but ever since she was littler, Rose had been trained very strictly about manners. So when you eat, you couldn't speak, or chew loudly, and those other many manners.
So, silence.
A few minutes later, they were done.
Rose wiped her mouth with her napkin before asking again. "What is your goal?"
Jay, who was still eating, started to speak. "I-"
"Ew, no! Finish eating first!" Rose cut him off.
Jay rolled his eyes. It was obvious that he was still eating, yet Rose just had to ask him a question, then blame him for answering.
Once Jay finished eating, he drank his water than laid his back on his chair.
"So, I've been dying to ask you this question for days," he finally spoke after a few minutes.
Curiously, Rose raised an eyebrow. She really wanted to know what kind of question it was. Last time someone spoke like this about a question, she just asked, "Are you irritated at me?'"
Rose didn't want Jay to feel the way the girl felt. She waited patiently until he was done wiping his mouth and fingers using the napkin. Jay might not be as clean as her, but she knew he was clean.
Jay was finally done, but the silence was still there. Rose, again, decided to speak up. "So? What's the question?" she asked curiously. She looked like a child at christmas.
Jay cleared his throat like he was about to make a big announcement. He then made those kind of trumpet noises. Then, he spoke. "Dear Rose, my beautiful Rose, I have known you since we were five, and I know that it might be very quick for me to ask this, but, Rose, would you like to be my girlfriend?"
