Rose had amnesia. She forgot lots and lots of things. The only thing she remembered was her mother, her father and school.723Please respect copyright.PENANAl0VcaV70WV
Rose remembered everything she knew about school, but one thing was missing.
Rose knew she used to go to school from eight A.M. to one P.M. then she studied and did her homeworks from six P.M. until ten P.M.
But what did she do in the five hours between those things?
She didn't remember. She couldn't remember.
Rose was depressed. It was like she lost something very important in her life.
"But is it even a 'thing'?" She mumbled.
"What is that, my dear?" Her father asked.
"Oh, nothing," Rose replied.
"Your voice had gotten quieter since he died," he said.
"Who is this 'he' you're talking about?" Rose raised an eyebrow.
"Someone you used to spend time with. No one important. I must go now. I have a business meeting. Goodbye, sweetheart." Rose's father pecked her forehead before walking to his car.
Rose sighed.
Her father had been talking about this 'he' she used to spend time with a lot, but he wouldn't tell her his name.
Then, Rose got an idea she hadn't thought about since she had amnesia two weeks ago.
Her brother, Nate, must have known something.
"Nate!" Rose called and ran to his room.
Rose opened the door without his permission, but he wasn't there. Then, she heard a shower being turned on in the bathroom that was connected to his room.
Rose sighed. "I'll regret this," she said to herself before knocking on the bathroom door.
"Aaaaah!" There was Nate's girly scream.
Rose close her ears as fast as she could. That scream was the kind of sound that would be stuck in your brain till decades.
"Who are you? Don't you dare going inside! I'll attack you with my super-shower!" Nate screamed.
"Shut up, Nate! Now tell me, what do you know about a boy that used to spend time with me?" Rose asked.
"Oh, you mean Jay? Well, I know that he is a boy who came from a poor family and he was your boyfriend," Nate shouted back at her.
"Huh, my boyfriend?" Rose raised an eyebrow. "Why would dad let me have a boyfriend? Especially a poor one? And what do you mean 'was'?"
"Well, firstly, mom approved of him and he died three days before you got amnesia," Nate replied, his voice was shaky.
"Name?" Rose asked bitterly.
She hated deaths and she always would.
"Jay Knights." Nate replied.
Rose left. She ran to the graveyard.
"I need to find this boy. He might give me my memories back-"
"You need to find me?"
Rose turned around to see a boy her age.
"Hi, Rose. Nice to meet you again," the boy said.
He offered his hand to shake.
When Rose tried to shake his hand, she didn't succeed. His hand was untouchable.
Then, Rose realized he was a ghost. This boy was a ghost. He was dead, and he was Jay.
Then she looked back at Jay.
"You were the love of my life?" Rose asked.
"The one and only," Jay replied.
"Then tell me about my past. Give me my memories back," Rose said.
Jay smiled.
"You have it all," he said.
"No, I don't. I don't have any memories of you. I didn't even know your name if it wasn't for my brother," Rose said, confused now. How could this confusing guy be her boyfriend?
"I'll give them to you, I'll give back your memories. But after I give it back, you have to promise. You have to promise me that you will be happy. Because it's the only thing I care for, you're the only thing I care for," Jay said.
Then, he took a deep breath.
"Do we have a deal?" He asked.
Jay smiled. It reached his eyes, but they were clouded with sadness. Jay was sad that he needed to say goodbye again to his love. It was what he feared, but he had no choice.
"Yes, we do," Rose said with determination.
Jay smiled again.
"You keep smiling," she commented.
"It's the only thing I could do best right now," Jay replied.
"What do you mean right now?"
"Right now is the moment I leave you again. But here, a red rose. A real one, too," Jay said, giving a rose to her.
Rose took the rose and mumbled a 'thanks'. At the time, she didn't understand what it meant.
"Goodbye, Rose," Jay said and he was gone in a heartbeat. And the memories came in a heartbeat, too.
Rose remembered when she was fourteen, she was about to leave Jay to go with her father on some kind of business meeting that she shouldn't be worried about.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Jay said. "You are going to do just fine. It's just a month. You can handle being without me. I'm sure of it. Now, just promise me that you will be happy." He smiled. Rose smiled back.
But she broke that promise.
Rose remembered when she was ten, Jay was about to go on vacation to Hawaii for two weeks. Little Rose couldn't handle being alone.
"Rose, you'll be fine. I'll be back before you know it. Promise me that you will be happy," Jay said, wiping her tears. Rose nodded.
She broke that promise, too.
Rose remembered when she was six, Jay was sick and couldn't go with the school to the zoo. Rose didn't like the idea of roaming all day on the zoo without Jay. And Jay being sick didn't help her worries.
"I'm fine. It's just a little fever. I get that all the time. Now, you better take me a picture of a giraffe. Oh yeah, and promise me to be happy while you're there, kay?" Jay grinned. Rose replied with an 'of course'.
That was the first promise she ever broke.
Rose's eyes widen when her view of the graveyard and Jay recovered.
"J-Jay?"
"You promised me to be happy, Rose," Jay said, kissing her forehead.
"B-but, Jay... You're not going to leave me here... Are you?" Rose asked again.
"We made a deal. You promised to be happy," Jay repeated.
"Jay, tell me!"
Jay sighed.
"I won't be back here. My job here is done and I must leave," Jay replied.
"You're leaving?" Rose started to cry.
She didn't want to be alone. She didn't want to be alone forever.
Jay smiled and nodded.
Rose's tears started to fall.
"You promised to be happy," Jay reminded again.
Rose smiled, though her eyes were full of sadness.
"There, I'm smiling, happy now?" She said.
"I'll be happy every time you are happy, so be happy for me," Jay said.
He kissed her one last time before disappearing.
Rose smiled, her face full of tears.
She might not be able to keep the promise for long, but she had to try for Jay.
After all, since the very first time, Jay was the only one she lived for. She loved him more than herself.
And so, she was keeping this promise for Jay, too. All that she had done was for Jay and this one was going to be another one.
Rose kept the promise for Jay, and Jay only.
