"Love is like letting someone hold a gun to your neck, and trusting them not to shoot."

Rose hummed Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as she went through the halls of school. Earlier, her English teacher, Mrs. Hailey, had told her to come to her office after school saying that she had some important things to tell.Rose wondered what Mrs. Hailey was about to tell her. She was certain it was just another scholarship. She was also sure that Mrs. Hailey was going to say her predictable lines of, "You're not going to be able to achieve your dream if you keep declining these amazing chances, Rose."
That was what she said every time, after all, so Rose wasn't surprised if she said it. Though sometimes she felt a bit irritated when someone mentioned her 'dreams'. No one had any idea what her dreams and wishes were.
Just as Rose predicted, what Mrs. Hailey needed to tell her was that she got another scholarship. Well, no surprise there. After all, Rose was the daughter of two very important and rich people, and she was also pretty smart.
Plus, it was nearly her graduation from junior high school. Surely, more scholarships would be offered here. You'd think schools would only give scholarships for the poor, but they didn't care really.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. I'm gonna have to decline it-" Rose started without hesitating. She didn't even bother to look at the name of the school.
"Again? Rose, please, you're ruining your future. You should stop doing this," Mrs. Hailey cut her off. She sighed in a desperate manner, though Rose wasn't sure why.
Rose was certain she wasn't Mrs. Hailey's daughter, and they weren't related by blood - they weren't even that close, so why was this woman getting all worked up for the scholarship that was offered to her?
Rose really wanted to roll her eyes at the drama her teacher was making. She could only imagine the lectures this teacher gave to her class. She pitied them.
Rose suddenly felt presence behind her, but she couldn't take off her eyes from the teacher. That would be rude, wouldn't it?
"Rose, seriously, you should start worrying about your life. You're letting Jay ruin it!" the teacher said again.
Rose was certain the pain she felt was visible in her eyes and for a few seconds, her would just stopped.
'How dare this teacher speaks of Jay like that,' were the only words available in her mind.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Hailey, but I must say, you're an idiotic teacher," Rose stated before running away.
She couldn't believe Mrs. Hailey was that cruel to speak of her love life just like that. Sure, most of the time, couples wouldn't last that long. Rose and Jay had been a couple since a year ago when they were fourteen.
Now they were fifteen and about to graduate from junior high school.
As Rose ran away, she noticed that she passed someone who was outside Mrs. Hailey's office, but she didn't bother to see who it was.
Rose went to the treehouse she and Jay made a long time ago - she didn't remember when exactly. She only remembered that they had fun making it.
"Rose? Hey, Rose, are you crying?"
Rose turned around to see Jay walking to her. His head was tilted to the left like a lost puppy, and even his eyes represented confusion.
"I-I... Well, it's fine now," Rose replied, sniffing.
"Oh, dear. What made my beautiful girlfriend so sad?" Jay asked aloud. He hugged her tightly.
"N-nothing you should be worried about," Rose hiccup a bit.
"Oh? Well, okay. What about we climb up and then just talk? We haven't got a lot of time to chat nowadays because of the exams," Jay offered.
Now that was an offer Rose could never decline. She nodded instantly, but somehow managed to make it look as if she wasn't too interested in it.
After they both sat down calmly on the edge of the tree house, Jay started talking.
He asked, "Do you remember when we used to be enemies? We fought about everything, then we met another enemy and decided to team up."
Of course Rose remembered. Jay and Rose weren't such good friends when they were little until the girl who called herself 'Foxie' came along. She thought she was just the 'best of all', but Jay and Rose pranked her. 'Foxie' was so scared she begged her parents to move. Certainly, Rose was still guilty for it, but it was worth it.
After Rose gave a slight nod, Jay continued, "Do you remember when we were playing on the park? I pushed the swing for you and you pretended to fall, I nearly had a heart attack and we fought the whole day."
Rose smiled widely at that one. She sure remembered. After all, it was her plan. Ann, Jay's little sister, told her to do that one. Again, it was worth it.
Jay rolled his eyes when he saw Rose's face shining as if she was so happy. Then, he asked, "Do you remember when we were watching the birds? We fought about which one was better- eagle or peacock."675Please respect copyright.PENANApBni487HGe
Rose also remembered that one. Since Jay wasn't able to go to the school field trip when they were six, she told her parents she wanted to go again with Jay. Just the two of them with their parents and siblings - no school friends. Of course, they had to fight about something there, too.
"I see that you remember everything. Well, Rose, I saw you with Mrs. Hailey talking today," Jay said.
Rose's face probably turned as hard as stone almost instantly, but she was going to listen to Jay.
"I wasn't sure what you two were talking about, but I sure could see the hurt visible on your eyes. What happened?" Jay asked.
Rose rolled her eyes in a bored manner as she said, "Oh you know, I got a scholarship and bla bla. The usual yada-yada."
"Well, are you sure you want to decline this one, then?" Jay asked.
At that, Rose furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "No, of course not. I can't leave you like that. I don't even know the name of the school," she said.
"I don't know, Rose. Maybe you should think about it? After all, it's better to have your life planned out for you than having your life being unpredictable at the time. Plus, maybe we shoule have a little break. Everyone have been saying that we're too close and everything," Jay said. He shrugged.
When he saw that Rose was about to say another excuse, he closed his eyes and ears.
"I don't care!" Jay shouted.
However, he didn't know what Rose said. She said, "I can't go there. I love you more than my own self, much less that school!"
When he opened his eyes, he saw Rose with her eyes widen and her mouth agape. He was about to ask her what was wrong, but she ran away. She just jumped from the treehouse onto the ground, and ran from there.
Again, Rose noticed a presence about someone being there besides herself and Jay, but she just shook it off.
She was much too hurt, and Jay was confused.
Neither did they know that desicion of Rose was going to be such a big deal in their lives.
