She had always wanted her soulmate to ask her out with a poem. She wasn't that surprised that Jay didn't give her a poem, but as usual, she was a bit hopeful, so she was a bit disappointed.
Rose didn't realize that she shook her head and she just noticed when Jay's face suddenly turned sad. He really looked like he was about to cry. Then, Rose realized it was because of her.
As Jay was about to turn and probably run away, Rose held his arm to stop him from going away. "Wait, Jay, where are you going?" she asked in panic. She couldn't let her soon-to-be-boyfriend just walk away.
Jay turned around to look at her and he looked like he was really going to cry. His eyes were watery and his nose was a bit red. He looked like he was holding back sobs, and it hurt Rose to see him like this.
Then, he spoke. "What is it? You just declined me."
"Jay, stop it."
He continued, "I've lost all my life purpose."
"Jay, shut up."
Jay continued anyways. Either he actually didn't hear her, or he pretended not to. "There is nothing else to live for. I-"
Rose decided to shut Jay up her own way. She - almost literally - jumped onto him and just smashed her lips onto his. Rose couldn't help the butterflies in her stomach and the tingles around her whole body. It was as if they just met for the first time all over again.
Rose finally pulled away when they were out of breath, and even then, Jay started speaking again. "What was that for? You sure like playing with my feelings as if they are no big deal, declining me and then kissing me like there's no tomorrow."
Even though what Jay said made him seem angry, there was actually no anger traced over his angelic face. In fact, he was trying to hold back his grin and his face was flushed.
Rose rolled her eyes. "Jay, I wasn't done explaining."
"What is it?" Jay asked. He crossed his arms and looked at her as if he was bored, but really, his feelings were mixed up.
Rose smirked as she said this. "I will say yes, if..."
She stopped right there just to see Jay's reaction. Even though Jay was still crossing his arms with a poker face, Rose could see through him and she knew that he was actually a bit scared.
Seeing the hopeful gleam in Jay's eyes, Rose couldn't help but smile softly. Jay was so innocent and angelic."If you tell me a poem of your own."
Ever since Jay was little, he could never write poems. In fact, he was really bad at those. Once, his teacher told him to read his poem in front of the class and he was very scared he couldn't even read loudly or think clearly. All his friends except Rose laughed while Rose was the opposite - in fact, she was listening very wholeheartedly.
Jay wasn't sure about what to think of Rose's request. Sure, he had to do this, but why poems all of a sudden? He wondered if she was doing it just because she actually loved poems, or if it was because she just wanted to embarrass him.
Jay groaned. "You know I'm bad at those," he protested.
Rose also pouted like a little kid. "But I want my soulmate to ask me out with a poem," she protested back. She needed one poem and she ain't giving up.
"How do you know I'm your soulmate?" asked Jay. This time, he actually seemed curious.
It was suddenly a bit awkward between them two for a second, or at least for Rose. What was Rose supposed to say? 'I ran away from your home, slept in a garden, met a fairy and she granted me my wish?'
That simply wouldn't do.
"I don't know..." Jay spoke. He didn't know what to write on that blank paper he was given by the teacher.
Rose rolled her eyes. "It's just a poem, Jay, not swimming. You can do it," she stated.
This time, Jay rolled his eyes. "Okay, I can do it, yeah, but what am I supposed to say? Eh, wait, does it have to be about romance and love or it could be about other things."
Again, Rose rolled her eyes. It was as if they were doing some rolling-eyes marathon. "If you're proposing to someone, are you going to tell them a romantic poem, or a poem about underwears?" she asked.
Jay shrugged. "Well, fair enough. Okay." Jay sighed in frustation.
After a few minutes of tapping her fingers on the table, Rose was done. She was standing up and was about to walk away when Jay stopped her from walking and turned her around.
"Eh? What is it? You're not gonna say anything, aren't you? So why should I bother," Rose said boredly as if it was a daily activity.
Jay sighed. "Just wait for a minute- Ah, I know!"
When Jay suddenly said that, Rose's mood just flew up. Then, he added, "It's a bit bad and weird, though. Oh, and very cheesy and short. Plus-"
"Okay, shut up, Jay! Just tell me your poem already!" Rose ordered like the queen she was.
"Okay, well," Jay started. Then, he continued, "Roses are red, violets are blue."
'The old way, eh?' Rose smiled to herself.
"This might be cheesy, but I love you," Jay finished.
And that became one of Rose's favourite poem of all times. Because the one that made it was the love of her life, her soulmate. How could she not love it? And after all the struggles that her soulmate had went to, just to make this one small poem.
Then, Rose kissed him again.
She said, "I love you, too."
