As Raegan jogged down the stairs the next morning, they earned a few glares and mutters from their fellow Slytherins. They decided to rock a new pair of black boots that made a thumping sound every time they took a step– rather, they stomped a bit harder on the stone stairs with such fury.
Their hair had grown out a bit, just like Sirius’ so they opted to tie it up… like Sirius. It was odd how they were starting to resonate with each other. Their names too– Blackthorn and Black?
“Hey, Blackthorn! Having another secret meeting with your little boy club–”
“Fuck off, Malfoy,” Raegan shot. Sure, it was loud and uncalled for, but they didn’t care anymore. There were a few outraged mutters and shocked sounds, but some sounded a bit more impressed.
Their owl flew in after them, landing on their shoulder as they left the common room. There was a momentary silence until someone spoke.
“Okay, that was kind of badass.” “Shut up, Bella.”
When they arrived at the Great Hall, it was surprisingly populous. Raegan tended to wake up later, hence the usual uncrowded tables they had in mind. At the very least, they spotted Sirius first, putting his dirty boot up onto the table, professing some sort of plan. They walked over briskly, immediately being noticed by them.
“Hey, hey, hey! Look who decided to wake up early!” Sirius spread his arms wide. “Come to listen to my marvelous accomplishment?”
“No,” Raegan said with a grin as food appeared in front of them. “I’ve come to listen to my scrambled eggs whisper the secret of life.”
“Wait, really?” Peter leaned in. “No, not really, Petey,” Remus laughed. “They’re brains have already been scrambled,” Raegan added.
“Then unscramble their brains,” James suggested. “Just like unscrambling letters!”
That day, Raegan garnered the attention of more than just the Slytherins or Marauders… it was the whole school's populace. They weren’t exactly known for their gender ambiguity, but now, everyone was wondering the same thing: What was down there?
Still, girls were suddenly hurling compliment after compliment. The boys were suggesting he join the Quidditch team.
“Oh, I couldn’t…” Raegan would deny it. “James would hand me my ass.”
When the weekend rolled around, Raegan Blackthorn was all everyone could hear being whispered down the hall. It wasn’t getting to their head at all, but it felt exhilarating. The talk about Quidditch was actually sounding even more appealing. They’d sent their owl to ask their parents for a broom. They didn’t usually ask for things, but now sounds like a great time.
That morning, they rocked their black boots along with some long and baggy, cargo pants, and black fingerless gloves. They had a brown sweater on too– courtesy of Sirius Black who knew they also liked jumpers as much as Remus did.
“You’re like a lovechild of Remus and Sirius…” Lily murmured as Raegan joined them, guitar case right behind them, notebooks in front. “Might as well be…” Raegan muttered and Sirius ran up to them, giving Raegan a tight hug and a nudge.
“How’s my favorite Slytherin doing? Malfoy still bullying you?” Sirius asked, genuinely concerned. “No,” Raegan said with a grin. “I think he’s sort of scared of me after I beat Bella in a duel. Anyway, I’m off to band practice in a bit.” Lily rolled her eyes and sat down next to James, giving him a peck on the cheek.
“You take after me…” Sirius wiped an imaginary tear from his eyes. “Remus, look, they grow up so fast… Remus! Get out of that book for one second and look at our child!”
“What child? I–” Remus looked up at the two of them as Raegan gave a friendly wave. As much as he thought Sirius was being delusional, he had a point. It was like someone dumped teenage rebellion on Remus and Raegan was the outcome. Remus smiled softly. “They do, don’t they?” 179Please respect copyright.PENANAsXOlymQbV1
