“OH NO, HE FUCKING DIDN’T!” Mary held Lily’s head as she cried, heaving heavy tears. Raegan gave shallow breaths. “Fuck him…” It was year five.
Raegan knew it was going to happen eventually… James would go too far, emotions would happen, and Lily would get hurt…
“Lily…” Raegan crawled closer, still wondering why Lily would even talk to them in the first place. They could feel everything in that moment. The anger, frustration, betrayal, bitterness… Raegan shed a tear.
“Not you too…” Marlene whined and started shedding tears as well. “Come on!”
Raegan continued to think as they grabbed a box of tissues and passed it among them. They’d met Lily in the first year. Despite Slytherin’s reputation for being cold and heartless, Raegan was quite the opposite towards Lily, even garnering her trust when they were at least a bit kind towards Severus…
But it looks like now all that kindness was returned with a single, sharp word that could end relationships left and right. It indirectly hurt Raegan too, seeing their friend cry over him. Raegan balled their fists, both Mar and Lily noticing.
“Please, don’t do anything rash…” Lily said through puffy eyes. “We’re over now. That’s that. I’m done covering for him…” Raegan put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “I won’t. I promise.”
“It won’t be rash,” Raegan thought. “I’ll have all the time in the world to think of exactly how I’m going to make the rest of his years a living hell…”
They'd met Lily, Marlene, and Mary a while back in 3rd year. Needless to say, they were welcome any time. Thanks to Raegan's skill of just knowing things, gossiping was their best pastime: And it was a very reliable source.
Things were a bit different now... Severus was no longer an OK subject and Lily has a part of her she had to cut off. But that's fine... it's fine. It has to be fine, otherwise, how was anything ever going to make sense again?
"He was a jerk anyway..." Mary said with a huff. "True..." Marlene replied. They weren't wrong... But Severus did get bullied... But Raegan did too and they turned out completely different. Nothing made sense in their head. It was all weird and fuzzy and Raegan didn't want to believe it.
"But it doesn't matter anymore," Lily said, wiping her tears with a final sniff. "What do you guys think about a little fun down at Hogsmeade? Butterbear, anyone?"
"Oh, totally!" Marlene grinned, jumping and hauling Lily up with her. "I NEED a good drink..."
"Too bad it's not really alcohol... I need a pint..." Mary said, shaking her head and helping Raegan up. "And you look like you REALLY need one. Seriously, did more than one person get hurt today? Need to spill something before we go?"
Raegon shook their head. "Nah... all good."
"If you say so," Mary said, shrugging as she stuffed a box of tissues into her knapsack anyway.
At the Three Broomsticks, all four of them sat at the very back, Raegan sharing their newest find around the school.
"...she's going to break up with Kingsley soon because she thinks he's too serious," Raegan said, sipping their butterbeer. "...Or so I heard." The group broke out into loud laughter, garnering irritated glares from the less-than-sober patrons. It was their little inside joke.
Raegan would find the juiciest story amongst the students, report it, and end with that phrase. "Or so they heard," but Raegan would always be right anyway.
"So what's up with that band gig you have going on?" Lily asked, taking another swig. "Found your crowd?"
Raegan sheepish shook their head. "No... I mean... I just hadn't talked to anyone about it exactly..."
"Well, how are they going to know about it then?" Mary asked, knitting their brows into a skeptical expression. "You can't just, you know, expect something different when you're not doing anything different..."
Raegan began tearing up. Who knows, maybe they got drunk and emotional on the fire whiskey fumes coming from the other booth.
"Hey-- Hey, don't cry... I-- I was just trying to state the obvious," Mary said, quickly handing a tissue and putting an arm around them. Marlene and Lily leaned in, attempting to comfort them.
"No, you're right though," Raegan coughed. "I just feel so goddamn lost... I don't even know if I care as much as I did. So on the off chance that I found someone, I might just end up abandoning ship and..." they trailed off, quickly blowing into a tissue.
"This has been too emotional for my tastes..." Raegan muttered, still unsure how to express anything at all. "Another round of butterbeer on me," they said, motioning for the waiter. "And make it spicey."

[A/N]: Of course, my OC had to interact with the Valkeries. I'm not trying to make those character tropes where the person is friends with everyone but is still "the outcast". I just wanted to write an interaction between them.212Please respect copyright.PENANA7jPPRRn19S

It obviously ended up not being just an interaction. So now, I like to imagine that they met by chance when Lily approached Severus. Raegan was just there, annoying Severus with questions about the subject they didn't understand well.
Since Raegan was being absolutely respectful and nice to Lily in contrast to what Slytherin was known for, they started off on good terms. It slowly progressed into a frequency illusion as Lily noticed them more often in class.
And so, one fateful day, Lily sat next to Raegan in charms, prompting them to share a few pieces of information or drama. Raegan happened to top Lily's with an absolutely outrageous one, ending with the iconic, "Or so I heard." When it ended up being true, Lily was amused and fascinated, hanging out and getting to know them more.212Please respect copyright.PENANAv2nxeVMwqV

"Finally, another Slytherin to be friends with! Also, what has Sev been doing?"
Hoped you enjoy this one. I absolutely adore Lily!
