“And so, I dub thee: Eyewart!” Sirius verbalized fanfare as he waved his hands wildly around. They sat around the Gryffindor fireplace-- James had let Raegen in.
“I told you…” James muttered to Raegan. “Care to elaborate on the etymology?” Raegan offered. Sirius grinned. “Well, Eyewart, you see all and know all! Eyewart!”
Raegan couldn’t help but chuckle a good deal. For a moment they were frenemies. Now, they were ensuing in their childish banter. “Great idea,” Raegan stood up, prompting Remus to drag Sirius into a sitting position.
“Eyewart: Undercover Legal Legillimens of Hogwarts School. Notorious Marauder. Greatest, ehem– One of the greatest pranksters of our time–!” Raegan put their hands up into a sort of villain stance. At least they didn’t have to hide anything around them anymore… Especially the Legilimens stuff. They actually thought it was cool.
“Perfect,” James clapped his hands. “Now we’ve got Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs, and Eyewart. Shame you weren’t here when we made the map– You actually could have helped speed up the process.”
“Oh, believe me, I don’t care for legacy,” Raegan snickered. “I don’t care if my name’s forgotten down the line… it’s the fun I get to have once I flay Severus for all he’s got–”
“Hold on,” Remus put a hand on their shoulder. “Let’s plan that out together.” “Right.”
“So,” James smiled at the apparent shared enthusiasm for the cause. “What bed did you say he slept on?”
It was 3 in the morning and The Mauraders were fleeing the scene. Raegan made damn well sure everything was in the right spot as it had been. Common room door closed, tracks cleared, minds wiped, beds full of sleeping, unassuming teens…
“ARGH!” A scream echoed throughout the Slytherin dungeons, six in the morning. “WHO THE BLOODY FUCK PUT DUNG BOMBS UNDER MY BED?!”
As everyone did, Raegan rushed out to see the commotion that definitely had nothing to do with them. A room was being evacuated, followed by a green, translucent gas wafting through the area. Everyone automatically pinched their noses. In the crowd, Raegan could barely make out Severus sitting on a couch with his face buried in his hands. Raegan slowly got closer, cautiously peering into his thoughts…
“Did you have something to do with this?” Raegan saw.
“No," they thought back.
Severus grunted. “I can’t tell if you’re lying.”
“I can’t tell if you’re still worth defending," Raegan shot.
They were still having a telepathic conversation. Some would think Raegan was just staring at him weirdly.
“I told you, I didn’t mean it– It’s none of your business– I DON’T NEED YOU–” Severus' thoughts rapidly fired and Raegan couldn't keep up.
“Then, please, give me a sliver of truth and do something to change–” they tried again, but were cut off by the growing intensity of Severus' words.
“Why do you care so much? We aren’t even friends! Hell, why do I–”
“Because I know this isn’t what you want!" They manage to cut in. "This self-destructive behaviour–”
“You don’t know me. You think you do, but you don’t. Stop trying to befriend everyone.”
“I just–”
“Playing the hero, you won’t get anywhere. Don’t talk to me ever again. Join Potter and his gang for all I care-- I know you’ve been dying to belong somewhere… Leave me alone!”
That breakfast, Raegan sat at the Gryffindor table along with the rest of the Marauders. As Snape walked in with damp hair, obviously from showering, they snickered.
“You just got Maraudered!” James yelled. Snape did not look up. “We did great, guys,” James said, giving each of them a high five. Raegan put on their best grin and laughed along.
“Yeah. We did.”

[A/N]: Bro, that was honestly very angsty. It felt like a sharp guillotine when I wrote Severus to say those things because, in the end, it was true. Raegan was trying to solve everything despite not knowing the full story.
Relationships: Broken.
Severus is a complicated character I would rather not screw up anyone's perception of with this funky fanfiction. So, this is how I choose to cut him from the whole thing.
I think it's very fitting because he's the mysterious guy we severely disliked (no pun intended), but ended up understanding in the end. I did my best to keep him in character until this point. It's not too hard because I studied his actions in other well-written fanfics.
Overall, keeping him in the loop would've complicated this if they were all friends. I don't want to make an "I have no enemies" character because that's just diving off into the Mary-Sue side of story writing.
Enough of my rambling, though. Just for your information, reading the Author's Notes is completely up to you. If you want this quilty story to make sense, I think you should. These are just quick explanations if you're having trouble understanding the story flow.
Again, entirely not your fault.
