Episode 4 Continued - Make it Mine
"Master, is something wrong?" I said as her eyes narrowed, searching the case files I formed.
She sat at her desk in the study, setting her cheek in her hand. "Something doesn't make sense about this."
I kept my position in front of her desk. "What doesn't make sense, my lord?"
"The murders," Yumi said, "they said they couldn't find anything correlating the victims together other than the DNA malfunction, but... it's right in front of me."
"In front of what, master?"
"All the murder victims were men," she stated then. "But there's two females, as well. So the guard came to the conclusion that it was two separate murderers, but that would be mere coincidence, wouldn't it?"
"Is there something you're seeing, master?" I wondered curiously.
"All the murder weapons were different," she stated, eyeing the case files harder, "the first man, James Carter was hit in the back of the head with a trophy. The second, Cameron Maddox was stabbed with a knife, third stabbed with scissors, forth poisoned from a trumpet flower found in his office... they all were murdered differently."
I kept watching her as she thought this through.
"Second murderer?" She laughed a little. "Impossible. They might as well come up with the conclusion that there are ten murderers. One for each victim. How can they not see that...."
She trailed off, eyes widening.
Yumi gazed up at me. "Sebastian."
"Yes?" I inquired.
"The people who were murdered, they were all a part of the same company, yes?"
"Indeed, my lord."
"And they were all murdered in their offices?"
"No, master," I explained, "some were murdered at their homes."
"But..." she gazed down at the suspect list, brows drawing together, "were they all higher status than a reporter?"
"Indeed, my lord. Except for one. All of them were either office managers, building managers, or secretaries of the CEO. Cameron Maddox, though, was a status reporter."
Yumi just smiled, laughing as she smacked the papers on her desk. "Such idiots."
I blinked. "Master?"
"The murderer," she told me, gazing up, "he was right under their noses in the first place. How stupid can the guard be? They are hired by elites."
"So you figured it out?" I wondered then, smiling. "Just by looking at a small amount of case files?"
Yumi just gazed up at me. "Indeed, I did. And I have an order for you, Sebastian."
I bowed down in front of her, setting my hand on my chest. "Yes, my lord?"
"Go run to the guard," she explained to me, smiling, "and tell them that Lord Phantomhive found the murderer, and to come to the manor immediately."
I gazed up then, smiling. "Indeed, my lord. I'll be back in a minute, no less."
"I know you will, Sebastian."
