Episode 5 Continued - The Mark of the Eye
"Welcome to Chatfield Cantina Hospital," the secretary said as I entered the hospital. "Can I help you find something, sir?"
"Is doctor Jonas around?" I asked her, buttoning my jacket more. "I've been curious to find him."
She looked down to her computer. "Oh, he's on the third floor today! Taking care of some paperwork! Let me find the room—"
"Thank you," I said then, walking past her.
She just glanced at me. "Sir? I can find the room in a couple seconds here."
"No need." I waved at her from behind. "I'm pretty sure I can do so myself."
I felt her confusion burn into my back as she stared at me.
The next thing I knew, I was on the third floor, stepping casually through the empty halls and passing rooms after rooms.
"You can't hide in that room from everything, doctor," I remarked in boredom. "I can see your soul right behind that wall."
I then turned a corner and found a door, rattling the handle to find it locked.
"Well, that's unfortunate." I sighed, raising my hand and tugging the edge of my glove with my teeth. After ripping it off, I set my hand on the knob and tightened my grip on it.
It immediately snapped and crumpled, releasing the lock at the impact.
I just opened the door gracefully, entering the room and glancing around.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" someone said from further in the room, and I glanced over at him. "That door was locked for a reason! You cannot be in here!"
I smiled once I saw a man dressed in a lab coat shuffling papers into a folder. "Oh, doctor. I was looking for you."
He just scoffed. "Who the hell are you?!"
"Oh, me? My name is Sebastian Michaelis." I parted my lashes. "Do you know my master, Yumi Phantomhive?"
His face immediately paled, and I smiled, chuckling as I closed the door behind me. "As I thought," I gazed up at him, "now, you are going to tell me everything you know about this modification of my master's parents."
His eyes grew as he took as step back. "And why would I do that?!"
I lowered my lashes. "You want all ten fingers intact, don't you?"
He breathed shakily. "Hold on, just who are you?"
"I told you," I smiled darkly, "my name is Sebastian. Yumi Phantomhive is my master. Now do answer my question or I have some fun tricks that involve a cigarette slicer and your poor little thumb." I raised the slicer in my hand, clipping it a couple times and sending shivers through him. "And you wouldn't want that, would you?"
"Okay!" He threw his hands up, breath shaking as he backed against the wall. "I don't know much, but I can tell you everything I do! Please, don't hurt me!"
I slipped the slicer in my pocket, gazing up seconds later. "I'm listening."
"I was the autopsy reporter for when Phantomhive's parents were admitted after the stabbing," he said shakily. "Before I became a doctor, I was a man in charge of autopsies! I did theirs and put their bodies away. But shortly after, about a year ago, some odd man came up to me and offered me a hundred thousand dollars if I told them where the bodies were stored!"
"And did you tell them?" I wondered.
"Yes!" he said, breath shaking. "I did! I didn't think it would hurt since no one asked for the bodies!"
"What did he want with them?" I questioned.
"I don't know!" he sobbed. "Please, I really don't know!"
"And the bodies... are they in the basement of this hospital?"
He shook his head. "The CEO got suspicious after a couple doctors went down there for long periods of time, so they moved the bodies somewhere else in hopes of not getting caught."
"What were they doing down there?" I questioned.
"I don't know," he said shakily. "I just know that there are rumors about doctors experimenting on bodies down there."
"Who was the man who gave you the money?" I pressed then.
"I don't know," he said, lowering his head as he continued shaking. "I didn't see his face. It was dark."
"And the doctors that were suspected?"
"No one knows who they were," he said, "they were never reported, and they left the hospital shortly after."
I then lowered my lashes. "When I walked in, you hid something. What is it?"
He gripped the folder in his hand tightly. "I was looking over something. It's nothing, really. Please, don't concern yourself."
"It's clearly something you're not supposed to have or be seen with," I stated, eyes darkening. "Why else would you be hiding in here and claiming you were doing paperwork. What is it?"
He just shook his head. "It doesn't concern you."
I pulled the slicer out of my pocket again, eyes darkening as I clipped it, watching his eyes widen in horror when the blade slid along the hole. "Your fingers, doctor. You do need them to do surgery."
He just breathed shakily, pressing himself to the wall. "It's the autopsy reports of the Phantomhive family. I was just looking it over because I heard that Yumi came to the hospital recently from poisoning! I was just curious!"
I held out my hand. "Give them to me."
"I cannot, sir!" he stated. "Please, understand! It's hospital property! If they find out it's missing, I'll be fired!"
"If you don't give it to me," I told him, eyes narrowing, "then you'll be forced to quit because you have no fingers and no family. Now GIVE IT."
He just held the papers out to me, and I snatched it from him.
He cried out and tugged his hand to his chest, still shaking.
I just smiled and bowed in front of him, smiling gently. "Thank you so very much, good sir. I appreciate your cooperation. Have a wonderful night."
I then left the room.
As I stepped down the hall, I opened my pocket watch and glanced at the time. "A little past twelve, master must be asleep by now." I sighed. "But she did order me to eat souls and I haven't done so yet." I smiled as I snapped the watch shut. "That shouldn't be a problem. I am in a hospital, after all."
