OVA Finale - Maddox Dannon
TWO YEARS AGO...
"Are you feeling better, Mister Dannon?" Sebastian said as I sat on an infirmary bed, inside this odd mansion they took me.
"Ah, yes," I said then, glancing around the room and eased into the mattress.
The room was no longer white... it had grey wallpaper and black floors... something I loved to see beyond belief.
I closed my eyes. "Much better."
"You were very lucky, indeed," Sebastian said, pulling on his white gloves as I glanced over at him. "If they shocked your brain just a little longer, it wouldn't have come back. Many people don't even come back with a little voltage."
I just smiled, laughing softly. "I think I just needed to sleep."
"That might be the case," he answered, pouring some hot water into a teacup. "I brought you some jasmine tea. It should calm the nerves, ease your mind a bit."
"Ah, thank you," I said, kindly taking the cup from him.
He just remained at the bedside as I took a sip.
I then gazed up. "Uh, Sebastian, is it?"
He nodded.
"Are you a butler?" I said curiously. "Like... those old-fashioned ones from the eighteen hundreds?"
"Indeed," he replied, smiling, "I am."
"And your master," I said, "do you mind telling me her name? I want to thank her."
"Her name is Yumi," Sebastian said then. "And she asked me to tell you not to thank her. She doesn't like gratitude."
"That's odd..." I said, brows drawing together, "why?"
"I don't know the answer to that," he said then, still smiling. "She's always been a quiet, shut-in kind of person. She doesn't like getting involved with happiness, which is quite depressing, to be honest."
"I see..." I stared down at the cup. "Is it true...? What your master said? Is the entire NOVIA cooperation dead and the company's gone now?"
"Indeed, it is," Sebastian responded coolly.
I gazed up. "How did she do it? So many people tried to take them down but ended up killed... by assassins like me."
Sebastian just kept his eyes parted, the red in them glowing slightly. "She has me, Mister Dannon. That's why."
I stared at him for a moment, wondering what he was hinting.
"So, now that I've answered your questions," Sebastian said, "do you mind if I ask you mine?"
"Sure!" I said kindly, smiling. "And you can sit if you want. I'm no noble."
Sebastian shook his head. "No, thank you. I prefer standing."
"Oh, alright then." I sipped my tea.
He then gazed up. "Is it true that you're a master with guns?"
"Yes, it is," I said then, looking up. "I have expert aim, can wield almost any gun with powerful ammo. I can shoot someone in the head from a hundred yards away in a matter of seconds."
"That's impressive," Sebastian remarked, setting his finger on his chin. "How about I offer you a position here? At this manor?"
I gazed up then, shock tumbling through me. "Really? You mean it?"
He nodded. "Indeed. Yes." He gazed up. "Even though master has me, I would be less concerned for her safety if we had servants with talents in killing. Especially assassins like you."
"Servants?" I echoed, brows drawing together.
"Yes," Sebastian said, gazing up, "and I promise you good pay, housing, and food. In return, I ask for your protection for my master."
I just shook my head, making his lips part. "No," I said then, smiling now, "you and your master saved me, and defeated that horrific company. I would gladly be a servant without pay, Sebastian." I gazed up. "Can I be chef?"
He just smiled in response, eyes glowing slightly.
