The capital planet of the Areala Universe, Spadaria, was a world steeped in history and tradition. At its heart stood the grand hall of the Jack Kingdom, a majestic structure that had withstood the test of time. Once the home of the legendary Lord Kaipo, it was now the epicenter of diplomatic affairs in the Areala Universe—a place where decisions that shaped the fate of millions were made.
Elara, Queen of the Areala Universe, walked through the marble corridors of the Jack Kingdom with her apprentice, Lyra, by her side. The grand hall’s walls were adorned with tapestries and relics from the Second Jewel War, each piece telling a story of heroism, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of the mages who had fought to protect their world.
As they walked, Lyra’s curiosity got the better of her. "Queen Elara, could you tell me more about Kaipo and the High Mages? Their stories are legendary, but I feel like I only know fragments."
Elara smiled softly, her eyes reflecting the memories of a time long past. "Kaipo was more than a legend, Lyra. He was a mentor, a friend, and a leader who inspired all who knew him. Nia and I were once his apprentices, before the events that changed everything. We trained under him, learning the ways of magic and leadership."
Lyra’s eyes widened with interest. "I’ve heard about that time… When you and Nia were captured by Astralith and Malacar. Who were they? And what happened?"
Elara’s expression darkened slightly at the mention of those names. "Astralith was once the head mage of the Areala Universe, a trusted figure in our ranks. But she betrayed us, joining forces with Malacar, a dark mage who sought to control the Jewels of Power. Nia and I each possessed one of those Jewels at the time, and they wanted them. We were captured, and they tried to extract the Jewels from us by force."
Lyra shuddered at the thought. "That must have been terrifying… How did you survive?"
Elara’s voice softened, tinged with a sadness that had never quite faded. "We didn’t, Lyra. Astralith and Malacar succeeded in their plan, and we… we perished. But Kaipo had always told us about the Pure Heart—a powerful artifact that could bring balance and restore life. When he finally collected all nine Jewels, he used the Pure Heart to reset the universal order. That’s how we were brought back."
Lyra’s expression was one of awe. "It must have been amazing, being around someone like Kaipo."
Elara nodded, her smile returning. "He was a big inspiration to me, Lyra. Kaipo taught me much of what I know about healing magic. His strength wasn’t just in his power—it was in his heart, his compassion, and his unwavering belief in the good of people."
Lyra, her mind racing with the new information, asked another question that had been on her mind. "What about the High Mages, including Levi? They were all powerful, but I’ve always wondered—why did they die so young, around the same age as you, Nia, and Lila? Yet, you three are still considered to be in your prime."
Elara’s expression grew thoughtful. "The High Mages were a force of power beyond anything the universe had ever seen. They wielded magic that could destroy planets, shape realities, and defy the natural laws. But that power came at a great cost. Even though they were revived along with everyone else when Kaipo used the Pure Heart, the damage done to their bodies from wielding such immense power remained. It caused them to deteriorate rapidly."
Seeing Lyra’s concerned look, Elara placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "But it’s okay, Lyra. Their legacy lives on through those who remain—through Sera, the daughter of High Mages Mike and Zara, and through Kael, the son of High Mage Lyn and a student of Levi. It’s up to us to protect the peace they fought so hard to gain."
In a remote part of the Land of Spade, there existed a village named Frostgale, a place where the cold winds blew constantly, and the land was covered in ice and snow. Frostgale was a village known for its skilled ice mages, who had honed their craft to perfection in the harsh climate.
In the heart of the village, within the main building, the village head mage, Icylis, was overseeing the daily training of the mages. The village was peaceful, the calm broken only by the sound of spells being cast as mages practiced their art. Icylis was a tall, imposing woman with icy blue hair and piercing eyes that seemed to see right through you. She was a master of cryomancy, able to control ice and snow with a thought.
As Icylis reviewed the day’s progress, a sudden, urgent signal appeared on the crystal communication device on her desk. It was a distress signal from Shadowfen, a village far to the south in the Land of Spade.
Icylis’s expression turned serious as she read the message. Without wasting any time, she called upon the village’s top mages—three of the strongest warriors Frostgale had ever produced.
Glacius, a mage who could summon and control massive ice golems to do his bidding; Aurora, a mage with the ability to create dazzling displays of light and ice, confusing and blinding her enemies; and Boreas, a mage who could create powerful blizzards and freezing winds that could immobilize entire armies.
"You three," Icylis commanded, her voice like a shard of ice, "head to Shadowfen immediately. There’s been a distress signal—something is very wrong. I trust you to handle this."
Glacius, Aurora, and Boreas nodded, their expressions determined. They knew the seriousness of the situation, and without a word, they left the building, heading towards Shadowfen with all the speed their magic could muster.
Meanwhile, in the Azure Universe, on a planet known as Luminastra, Elder Aeliana was deep in concentration. Luminastra was a sensory planet, home to some of the most powerful sensory mages in the universe. Here, they could detect magical disturbances, read the flow of energy across the cosmos, and predict potential threats before they even materialized.
Elder Aeliana and her team of sensory mages had been alerted to a disturbance—an unfamiliar signal coming from the Land of Spade. The signal was the same one received by Icylis in Frostgale, though they were unaware of this connection.
Elder Aeliana closed her eyes, reaching out with her senses. "I need to pinpoint this disturbance," she murmured, activating her power, Ethereal Insight. Among its many abilities was Omni-Sense, which allowed her to extend her perception across vast distances, detecting individuals, magical energies, and even emotions with incredible precision.
As she concentrated, she could feel the signal more clearly. It was coming from a place deep within the Land of Spade—Shadowfen. But something was wrong. The energy there was dark, malevolent. It felt like a black gas in the sky, swirling with clouds and smoke. The malice it emanated was overwhelming, and Aeliana couldn’t determine what it was—only that it was dangerous.
Her eyes snapped open, and she turned to one of the younger sensory mages at her side. "Go to Queen Seraphina immediately. Tell her what we’ve sensed and that we need to investigate further. We may be facing a threat greater than we anticipated."
The young mage nodded and rushed off to find Seraphina, leaving Elder Aeliana to contemplate the dark force she had just perceived. Whatever it was, it had the potential to threaten not just Shadowfen, but all of the universes connected by the Land of Spade.
The chapter ended with Elder Aeliana standing alone in the sensory chamber, the weight of the impending danger heavy on her shoulders, knowing that the peace they had all fought to maintain was once again under threat.
