"hey..." No response. "hey. hello-o...." About a small semi-head roll up to the ceiling and back down again. That and what seemed to be a possible moan of disgust from Luca, but that was about it.
She was curled up on the bed in the guest bedroom, looking adorable as always. David tried to resuscitate her with his voice. All else failed, he dug his hands into what were her left arm and shoulder and shook her just a bit, at the same time continuing transmitting television static to her, in a manner much like a whisper sing-song session.
"Luca... Are you awake?"
And it worked. A fish pulled out of the water, she opened her eyes minutely before groaning a bit. "Go away.."
David only laughed, unusually.
"You're beginning to sound like my sister!" He only continued to laugh a tiny bit more, all the while slightly shaking her out of it. Luca groaned some more.
Time flew by as he kept waking up Luca little by little. Finally, she relented and pushed his arms off of her. But she couldn't help but feel a muscle from the corner of her mouth retract, in satisfaction.
"Alright, I'm up. I'm up," she clawed back at him. He sat near her on the bed, staring down playfully at her as she looked back at him. Something.
"How are you feeling?" He asked her, normally. Obviously.
Luca yawned and stretched out her arms. "Better."
"I'm glad to hear that," he replied. And he opened his lips to say something, but his brain couldn't find something. On the other hand, Luca found the chance to thank him for the other night.
"Hey, thanks." She said.
David was distracted by a noise, but then he turned his head around to gaze back. Ocean.
"Thank you for the other night. To be honest, it helped me out a bit."
"Oh! No problem, it was nothing.. really..."
A few seconds rolled on to his hands. David, for no reason at all in his mind, was getting distracted quickly; maybe it was because of his temporized sense of mind. He started to think this time around, it was Luca's eyes. She still stared back at him, provoking what looked like natural curiosity. And David could not forget those blue eyes easily, like he couldn't forget a galaxy up in a sky. But he knew well it wasn't a galaxy. It wasn't gre
Wait.
Why was he thinking about her now? And another thing, why was he staring directly into her eyes? He snapped the tether between both pairs of eyes into pieces.
"Sorry," he muttered.
"No, it's fine," she reacted, "I never noticed you have.. brown eyes."
Brown eyes. She almost choked or let out some saliva on those words. Luca could effortlessly detail the duo. Seemed dark brown in the absence of light, whenever the pupils made it hard to distinguish the color. In light, their pure texture showed it in an indifference between hazel and brown or a sui generis of both. Looked like it would irradiate Coke sometimes. They were very similar....
David could tell something was going on again. "What is it?"
"Nothing."
She didn't want to tell him at all but she couldn't just let him be in the dark. But then again, she had left him out already. It would likely be that he would just let her go. At least, that's what she thought.
David then stood up and walked to the door. He then remembered the plan he was going to propose to Luca and looked back at her once more. "Hey,"
A turn of the head. "Yes?"
"I'm thinking about going out to Subway now and get a bite to eat. I was wondering if you would like to come along, if you want to..."
Of course, she wanted to go and hopefully spend some time with him. But, on the other hand, she wasn't hungry and a small part of her wanted to stay because of reasons.
A questionable sound was let out from her throat. "Uh..."
He let out a chuckle and left the room. Luca was shocked, but shouldn't she be used to this by now? She was familiar with this sort of response from people anyway, especially him. She was no visitor to shattered expectations, unquestionably the queen of breaking off communication whenever so. It wasn't as hard as a decision as it was to say no then yes.
When she decided to go after a nonessential time debating this question with her past and personal mumbo-jumbo, the apartment door was already bolted and David just walked to the elevator. She rushed and put on her shoes as if she was the bat out of hell and grabbed her wallet and phone, then ran to the living room.
"Where did he go?" She asked calmly, hurriedly to Kaylon. He was watching IFC while eating dinner, on the couch at a relatively low volume compared to the rest of the apartment.
He muted the television and looked up. "Huh?"
"David. Where did he go?"
"Uhmm, I think he went out. Why ar-" No time.
She just ran out the door without a second thought or consideration. Luca couldn't lock it as she didn't have a key. Kaylon didn't even do anything at all, whatever was on IFC was more important than that of security. In other words, useless movie trivia firmware was downloading in his and Kaylon was inoperable. Maybe he closed the door after a while, but who cares?
Too late. The elevator was almost closed, Luca ran to the elevator and tried to slide her arm in, but couldn't do so in time. Pushed away by seconds, so she pressed the button. Unsurprisingly, she didn't even need to be in that much of a hurry. She always implored that fact that she knew that she would miss the chance, as always, and would have to retreat into solitude again. Hopefully, maybe nothing bad would happen.
Unknowingly to her, however, he had already heard her attempt to get in for her and was thinking things over on the vertical ride down. The doors opened, including one in front of him.
Elevators, to Luca, were consistently a test of patience. She was patient almost every time but the exception known as other times, she wanted to go down speedily and just have it open for her in time. This was one of those other times. As soon as the metallic doors opened when countless minutes zipped threw the air like arrows, she pressed the button that would take her to the Lobby and held down the 'Close Doors' button o she could try and catch up with the remote anticipation slipping off her fingers.
In the lobby, it was about as quiet and void as it was when she first arrived here. Exiting the lobby, she looked around and 'round to try and find David, hoping that her chance didn't drown in the ocean. After a few seconds, she wanted to give up and go outside as it was a bit freezing outside. Footsteps. Then a woman.
"So, you're going?" David asked. Luca looked up at him. He was wearing jeans, a long-sleeved shirt and had a jacket on his shoulder. She was wearing nothing except some shorts, a shirt and pockets full of utilities. He gave the jacket to her, who took it without any doubt whatsoever.
"Yes." She said.
David smiled and began to walk. Luca followed alongside him.
"Thank you."
"No problem."

At Subway, it was about as packed as a regular Subway chain was on a Thursday. Which may or may have not been a complete crowded space. To save money, the duo only got drinks and sandwiches. Since both were not as hungry as they expected, David and Luca only got the six-inch sandwiches and not the footlong that day. David could've eaten one, but then he would've had to force it down near the end. Luca would've probably been the same.
They were sitting at a table inside, since there were none outside. The pair were talking rather mellowly over packaging, sandwiches and drinks.
"Well, um, technically.. I don't have any siblings. I was an only child." David rambled on, "I do have a foster sister."
"What's her name?" Luca asked.
"Hannah. I don't know her that well and we've only talked to each other a couple of times. I guess you could say we do get along, but she does like to have her space."
Luca chuckled. "Yeah, I can see that." She took a bite out of her sandwich, not a very big one but still enough.
"What about you? Do you have siblings?"
"Hmmm?" Luca emitted in question, while still eating. She looked up at him, originally looking down at the sandwich itself, and then finished. "A brother. I think his name was Michael."
"Were you two close?"
Luca shook her head. "No, not really. I don't know how old he is. I don't even remember how he looks..."
David looked down. "K..." He inspired his lungs to space in under air and released. "How old are you?"
"21. My birthday's in November."
Small shock. David piped up a bit. "What date?"
Luca noticed this tone change in his voice, gave him the answer. "15. Is something wrong?"
Not it. He piped down. "No, it's nothing. Sorry about that."
"It's fine."
A few seconds passed. David took two bites out of his sandwich and took a sip out of his drink - water - while Luca only took a single bite. They were almost done with what they were eating. Luca didn't really do much.
"Hey, Luca," David asked her again.
Luca fixed concentration on him, " "How did you meet Sky? Just saying..."
She had swallowed another bite of the sandwich and four gulps of her drink before she spoke. "Neighbors. We sometimes talked, but not very often. But we did go to some places."
"Is that it?"
"Yeah. What'd you expect?"
David had a suggestion of suspicion, as it was a bit too shallow. After all, whenever he mentioned Luca to Sky - which was once, she seemed like she knew her more than just an acquaintance. Seemed like equivocation, but who was he to judge, though? "Ok."
"What about you? How did you meet Kaylon?"
No vacillation, he cleared his throat and spoke. "Freshman year of high school. We didn't hang out as much at first, then I paired up with him in class. We started to visit more often. Graduation hit him hard because of what happened with him and Sky, as far as I know. We went to separate colleges, I helped him move to Colorado. I think that's it, in a nutshell." He chuckled a bit, but he couldn't stop.
"Are you doing what I think you're doing?" Luca asked.
He started to laugh, even though it wasn't that funny. "Yes..." And then laughter. A face of worry and concern showed up.
And a beep happened, followed by a series that was either fast then slow, quick then sluggish, on time then off it.
"Is there somet
