At the table sat 30 of the highest ranking members of werewolf society. I new about five of them. Queen Demeter, Prince Jackson, Beta Nigel, Beta Caspian, Joy and Alpha Kain Joy's brother. Kain had an alliance with Queen Demeter, she lets his sister live and he works for her, forcing the Black Wolf pack to live 5 days out of the 7 without their Alpha. I honestly had no idea how they made it work but they did somehow. Kain's usually cold expression softened at the sight of his sister, he almost never got the opportunity to meet with her.
She kept quite but I could feel her wolf howling through the mind link. She was a year older than me, Her being 20 and me 19. Most werewolves got their wolves at 18 some lucky few at 16 and then there was me..A late bloomer, I was happy about it truthfully, it gave me time to find a way out of this castle. Tonight everyone was expecting me to find her and maybe I would. I had been blocking her for such a long time maybe my time would run out?
Kain's almost black eyes flickered to me, something within them called to me, maybe it was just his Alpha rank, Alpha's had a sort of mind control thingy going on. Any wolf below their rank or any Alpha that was weaker than them could be told to stand down, or forced to do their bidding. Most only used it for good but some..Well..Not all werewolves were good. Kain lifted a fang as Jackson rubbed my arm. The Alpha was acting strange, I didn't like it, not at all.
"Get your eye's off of my mate." Kain held his gaze for a moment but looked away, earning a massive grin of victory from Jackson. Another Alpha, one I didn't know but could sense clicked his tongue, eyeing me a little too obviously. I cocked my eyebrow at him annoyance crawling up my spine. "Yes?" I asked, earning a sharp look from Demeter.
"Reyna!..I'm so Sorry Alpha White River her wolf is coming to her, you know how tempers flair around this time. The Alpha grinned running his hand down the small white goatee on his chin. He was an older male but his hair was not white due to age, c instead due to genetics. Some wolves were born with it but most weren't.
"You got a good one there, a lot of men would pay a lot of money for a luna like that. An Alpha female is a rare thing these days. Anything I can offer to take her off your hands." Dishes on the table clinked together as I stood up. "I am not an object for sale!" Jackson had also risen eyeing the Alpha with disdain and a smidge of fear.
"Reyna is my mate." His mumbled, clearly intimidated by him. "Why don't we wait to see what her wolf says first, if she's not anyone here's I'll be taking her with me." Demeter Smashed her hand against the table growling with a ferocity that I did not recognize. "Alpha White River drop it before you get yourself uninvited. She was raised by me to become the next Queen. If you try and take her you will be putting your pack to war against the entire kingdom..Your choice!"
He dropped it, clearly afraid of Demeter and her threat. If I didn't hate her so much I could look up to her as an Alpha female. The feast went on for another hour, all eyes on me as they waited for my wolf to come to me. My Sapphire Hues almost never left the grandfather clock at the end of the hall, only minutes till this feast would be over. We had musicians entertaining us as the party finished off our assortments of desert, cheesecakes and pies, anything your stomach could desire, I somehow was not hungry.
"Are you not going to eat Princess?" Alpha Kain asked, eyes flickering to the clock then back at me. "I did eat, I just don't fancy any desert, I'm fine I can eat at any time. I would prefer to get some rest, It has been a rather long day." He nodded flashing a smile to his sister who stood behind me trying to pretend her feet didn't ache from being stood up for so long. Luckily Jackson hadn't noticed, he was too busy staring at me, desperately waiting for my wolf to greet me.
I smirked as the clock finally struck midnight. "Maybe next year ey?" Jackson stood up from his chair and kicked it into the table causing food to go flying, he was livid. The Queen just looked disappointed but me? I was over the moon. Suddenly I felt something shift within me. Bubbling and pushing, demanding to take command. My skin feIt as if it were on fire, my bones ached making way for change, for my werewolf side to become apart of me finally. I was desperate to get out of there, I had to go. I had to run. "It was nice to meet you all." I yelled beginning to run towards the door. Joy chased after me, her brother close behind. We made it to my door before I collapsed.
"Princess." A voice called, a lovely male voice, he sounded sweet, kind. "Princess It's ok, you are safe here." Another voice, a friendly voice..Someone my human recognized. Eyes snapped open for the first time, zooming in on the female, she smelt like my human, she must belong to us, a part of our pack. Mate? Where were they? Mate? Was it the dark male? His black hair falling down to the edge of his shoulders, almost black eyes wide. Tan skin crinkled in worry. No. not mine.
I sniffed at our omega, she smelt delightful, my human liked her, but not as much as our chosen one. I took the opportunity to run my head against her chest, ahh I was still human..Hmm. "Omega." I croaked, a soft pant leaving my mouth. "You belong to my pack, tell me..Where am I?" The female blushed, her own wolf coming forward, greeting mine, clearly submitting to mine.
I let out a huff of acceptance, earning a whine in appreciation from her auburn wolf. "Alpha..You are in the castle, do you not remember? Does your wolf not know?" I shook my head, black hair cascading down my back. "I am Sapphire." The female's pretty human eye's widened. "Oh like Reyna's eyes then?" I cocked my brow in confusion not knowing what she meant, I hadn't seen my human yet, only felt her essence.
The male had begun to send some signals to me, his wolf at least, it wanted to be the top dog, It wanted domination, no matter how friendly his human seemed, the wolf couldn't stand my strong female dominance. I lifted my lips, allowing my fangs to glint in the light. He growled not accepting my challenge. "Not now Reyna, you shouldn't challenge an Alpha male. You are a female."
I seethed from his words, was I not already an Alpha female? Did he not see Luna's as such? His human was clearly kind, I could sense it but I would not allow the wolf to belittle me, it was clear it was clouding his judgement. "Are you afraid I will win?" He stopped talking then, forcing his guard up. "Where is my mate?" I asked, looking back to the girl. She shook her head, raising her shoulders. "I don't know, you will meet him when Reyna comes back I'm sure."
"No, she will block them out, like she did me. I must find them." The female's beautiful eyes widened, the skin creasing in the corners. "I see, so she has been blocking you out.. That's a shame. Do you know if he's in this castle?" I shook my head, silky black hair brushing against my bare back. "I do not know where they are. I am a wolf not a psychic." The female erupted into giggles hiding her face while she struggled to stop laughing, strange one in deed.
"Well..Even if you did find him your human is promised to the Prince, you are set to marry him, mate bond or not." The male said, his voice solemn. I froze, if my body were strong enough, if I could easily shift I would run, leave this place they had chosen to call my prison and find the one chosen for me. But my human was far to weak, not ready for the shift, she had a lot of emotional baggage and was not yet at ease with herself as she should be. I would find a way to bring it out of her and allow my wolf to be free.
"Then I will meet the prince, I wish to see if he is my mate." My grip on control slipped away from my claws, the human side of me pulsating with terror, she would not allow me to meet the prince. My conciseness buried deep into the back of her mind, under lock and key, she was afraid of me, afraid of the thing's I'd force her to see, to understand. Sleep lulled me as my human forced her way forward.
"What happened?"
