I jolt awake, my throat burning. I cough, and weak flames leave my mouth. I clap a clawed hand over my mouth, my thoughts racing.
"What's happening to me?" My fingers search for the thin chain that was holding the amulet around my neck. The chain's no longer around my neck...but the amulet... Is embedded in my throat, surrounded by scales. Panic flares in my mind.
"Calm down, Bergamot. " I murmur. "I'm fine." I stand up and start to walk towards the town, my tail dragging in the dirt behind me. "Just focus on the task at hand...I'll be fine."
