As we ran out, most of the people standing in front of me were gunned down. Apparently, the prophets had been expecting such an assault and had moved over 600 of their troops out towards our landing zone, as the starfighters, and bombers moved their focus away from the fields and towards the compounds. In comparison, the three landing crafts that had landed near mine, plus mine have come up to 450. Great! Even better, we landed in an area with no cover. Activating my jet pack, I landed closer to the attacker, while firing from my rifle all the time. I landed on the ground in a roll, and tossed a grenade from my belt, taking out at least 30 of them. Suddenly, one shot hit me square in the chest, knocking me back a few meters, just as the rest of the troops begun to run in, starting to fire their own weapons as well.
I ducked to the ground, as their shots flew over me. Most of the defenders had been killed, but so had about at least 150 of the landing force. The surviving 300 of us headed towards the compound. Luckily, there was a small forest separating our part of the valley, with the main compound area, giving us some form of cover from any fighters coming our way. As we made our way through the forest, at least 10 of us were picked off by booby traps scattered throughout the area. By the time we made it to the compound, most of the bombers had been destroyed, and the starfighters were busy fighting off attacks by the prophets fighters.
We put a bomb on the entrance to the compound and waited. When it blew, we ran in, immediately firing our weapons. We were able to knock out a few of them, before being forced to take cover, as the prophets came firing back at us with full force. I grabbed one of my grenades and tossed it into the crowd. Most of them were able to rush out of the way in time, but some weren’t so lucky. With that, we started to move towards the center all building, taking out turrets along the way.
As we reached the front of the building, we were met with reinforcements from the other landing parties. While the rest of them split off to attack the other buildings, we continued forward into the main one, which took the form of a massive spire straight in the middle of the compound. We placed explosives at all the entrances and blew the doors open. I quickly ran in first but found no other soldiers. We then split up to search the building, and I headed in the direction of the prison complex.
I arrived at the prison but found most of the cells empty. After some searching around, I found the control room guarded by three people. After shooting them, I found the controls and opened all the cells. The prisoners, clearly weak, and starved started to stumble out of their cells. After I sent them in the direction of the other soldiers, I continued on my way. Despite all the battling I had been doing for the past few hours, my armor had managed to only take 5% of damage, compared to my previous battles.
I rejoined the rest of the Flashtroopers, as we moved up to the next floor of the building. The prisoners that I just freed were moving back outside the building, as transports were coming to get them back to another planet. On the next floor, was what appeared to be an empty armory. Strangely, besides the guards, I had seen guarding the prison control room, We hadn't seen any of the Prophets since we entered the building. I grabbed some more ammo, and grenades from the unguarded armory before we moved on. As we reached the next floor, we were knocked to the ground by an explosion.
As I jumped to my feet again, I saw that the explosion was caused by one of the bombers crashing straight into the wall. As the rest of the soldiers got up, two of the Prophets fighters appeared by the hole and started firing I ducked out of the way, along with most of the troopers, as one of our own starfighters crashed into it, knocking it out of the way of the hole. Soon, after that, two prophet fighters flew past the hole but didn't notice us. As we struggled to our feet, about 50 soldiers surrounded us, their weapons ready to fire.
Thinking quickly, I tossed a smoke grenade to the floor, blinding most of the soldiers. Using my flashlight, I gave my allies some form of visibility, and we started firing quickly at the soldiers around us. I managed to slip past the soldiers, just at the last of them was killed. I started to move upstairs, as the troopers struggled to follow me, as they were blocked by lots of debris, and corpses, which I had just jetpacked over when I had previously got to the next floor.
The next floor was slightly larger, as it held several balconies and connectors to other floors. We soon split up to search the floor again, I moved to the interrogation room, hoping to find something that could lead me to Deoxmatis. After finding nothing, I began to make my way back to the others, I heard a voice somewhere near me. After using my HUD to locate the source of the sound, I discovered a series of secret doors. Using explosives to blow several open, I found most of them empty, but when I finally got to the last one, I found Deoxmatis! But as I rushed into the room, I soon found myself surrounded by guards!
