After returning to Grakor, I helped Deomaxtis back to his bar, grabbed my stuff which ad left in my room, and started to head back to my apartment. When asked by my apartment's owner where I had been for the past few weeks since he had been unable to contact me or figure out where I was. I simply told her that I had gone on vacation, and had forgotten to inform her. She started to ask more questions, but I brushed them aside, and eventually, she just stopped asking. The apartment had been cleaned up slightly since I had last seen it. Although there was still, some spots of dried up blood where I had left my attacker, it was mostly clean and ready to be moved back into.
By the next day, things were finally beginning to calm down. My landlord had stopped asking questions, and the first reports of the meeting between the regime, and the federation began to come in. It was apparently going well, if not going incredibly slowly. Along with this, the first reports of the battle which had happened over a week ago had begun to flow in. People all around were discussing it. Many people had also learned that I had taken part in this battle through info leaks, and other sources, and soon I was being questioned about it by people on the streets.
Along with this, Deoxmatis had almost healed completely. He was planning a grand reopening of his bar which had been abandoned when we had left. While this was being worked on, I was occasionally being approached for interviews by others on the planet, which had not been very important until two of its citizens had become large parts of a massive military operation. I denied all of them, preferring to take Keti’s advice, and lay low for the time being. Although they kept trying, they eventually gave up, leaving me to help Deomaxtis set up his reopening plans.
The next week, the bar was opened. As I was there, I saw several familiar faces throughout the bar. This included something surprising. Kietlan! I hadn't seen her in the weeks since she had left Zargo. We exchanged pleasantries, and she was just as surprised to see me. We started chatting, and she told me that she was warned to leave by an unknown figure, as the regime was on the lookout for her. When I asked her whether she ever found out the identity of this unknown figure, and she said that she didn't. Eventually, she had to leave again, and we said our goodbyes.
By the time the day began to come to an end, the bar was still super busy. By that point, I had damn nearly drunk myself into a coma. Deomaxtis, eventually just made me go home. It was getting late, and e was getting worried for me. Some of my other friends at the bar helped call for a taxi, and I was soon heading home to my apartment. My landlord was already waiting for me there. She had just had her holoscreen fixed and learned the news about my involvement. She questioned why I had not told her about this. I chuckled and asked if she would've believed me if I did. She smiled and responded that she wouldn't have.
As a slight apology, I agreed to pay my landlord the previous weeks worth of rent, which she was happy with. The next morning, I had a huge hangover from the previous night's party. After staying in bed for the largest part of the morning, I finally got out of bed and got back to work. Now over a week removed from the battle, and relations between the regime and federation improving, I still needed a steady stream of income. I headed back into town, looking for anyone who needed my help, my armor in tow.
The bar was still cleaning up from the mess of the previous night's events, so I changed my target. Similar to where I had met Kietlan, there was a smugglers base on the edge of town. When I entered, I noticed that Kietlan was at the corner of the room. We exchanged pleasantries, and she pointed me in the direction of another Araket sitting on the bar table a few feet away from her table. When I approached the Araket, I overheard him saying something about a lab at the northern edge of the city. I introduced myself to him, and he gave me my new target.
Since he was only in the middle of the city, I was able to get there pretty quickly. He was sitting in a cafe, and chatting with another man. They were both wearing lab coats, sat far away from everywhere else, and both had a similar logo on them. a simple black logo with the letters PP on them. I wonder what that means. Maybe I'll find out in the coming months and Kiet starts shouting at me for killing some important senator.
As I trained my sniper on the targets head, I remembered what my buyer said about my target. That he was a known kidnapper who was never prosecuted. That would let my conscience down, at least for a while. I waited for the perfect moment to fire, as my targets friend began to move away from the table. I remembered what the buyer had said about the lab in the far north of the city. Briefly glancing in that direction, I saw multiple supply transports slowly heading in that direction. I wondered what was going on over there. maybe I'll find out soon enough.
As I glanced back at my target, I saw that most people had begun to pay less attention to him. perfect! I put my finger on my sniper's trigger and fired once. He collapsed backward, and I quickly fled, as people started to scream. Before I turned my back, I saw His friend starting to look in my direction. I didn't think about it much, as I fled the area, and rushed back to the smugglers base, where I got paid. Although I got some dirty looks on the way out, I was able to leave quickly, hoping that I hadn't started something terrible yet again. I returned to Deomaxtis bar, where he asked me what I had been doing, suspiciously. I responded truthfully, but he still looked annoyed at me as he served my drink. I asked him about the lab to the north, but he said that he had never heard of such a plan, either during construction or up to the present day. I got similar answers from other patrons throughout the bar, and when I asked about the symbols I had seen on my targets clothes. Sipping my drink, I decided to investigate further. Before I could do anything, I found that I know had a message from the federation, asking for an immediate meeting.
