CHAPTER FOURTEEN858Please respect copyright.PENANAlJTO86xJh5
(Seth’s PoV)
As I was driving, I thought that maybe Sarah’s temper tantrum was for the best. Because if she didn’t call who knows what would I have done earlier? Would it end in just a kiss?
When Liz found out that Ashantee was staying at my place she warned me about making a move at her best friend. As if I ever will without Ashantee's consent, but still it was a shocked when Liz revealed that Ashantee was only 16 since she started school early.
I love the kiss, I mean- I don’t want to sound so girly but it was the most magical thing that happened to me though wouldn’t it be wrong in the eyes of the judgmental people around us for a twenty year-old to be kissing a sixteen year-old teen?
I sighed.
This relationship is not gonna be easy.
But that doesn’t mean I’ll give up. Ashantee’s the best thing that has happened to me and I’m not about to let her go just because of our age difference.
I stopped at the rink and I saw a sulking Sarah on the front door. She marched towards the car and entered. She slammed the door shut and refused to look at me in the eyes. Sighing, I started the car.
“Are you giving me the silent treatment?” I asked without taking my eyes off the road. Sarah didn’t answered she just puffed. “That’s too bad then. Because I was thinking of giving you that.“ I pointed to the back seat.
“Look here, Seth. “ She said glaring at me. “We’re both adults here. You can’t ditch me then bribe me just like that.”
“Just look at it.” I pouted. “Please?”
Rolling her eyes at me, she looked behind her and she suddenly squeaked when she saw the hockey stick on the back seat. Then, she gave me a bear hug and I had to concentrate hard on the road so that we won’t end up in an accident.
I dropped her off her house and she practically jumped up and down on her way inside. Laughing, I was about to leave when she turned back and invited me for dinner. Without second thoughts, I accepted.
Her mom smiled at me when I entered. It seems like that uncle was out-of-town for some meeting and Nick was stuck in traffic on his way home from his basketball game two towns away.

I laughed at her and thank her for being understanding.
Just as we were sitting down for dinner, Nick arrived and joined us. There were plenty of things we talked about. Nick’s basketball team won their latest game and moved up to semi-finals. Congratulations were exchange and the topic suddenly turned to Ashantee.
“You really are lucky with your girlfriend, Seth. She’s a very lovely girl.” Aunt said with a smile and Sarah pretended to swoon.
I rubbed the back of my neck. “She’s not my girlfriend.” I cleared then added. “Yet.”
Sarah screamed and we covered our ears with out hands.
“What is it?” Nick asked as he pretended to go deaf.
“He said yet!” She pointed to me. “Yet! Are you planning to ask her soon?”
I could feel all eyes on me and I broke into a huge smile. “I was planning to ask her on the Hockey Championship. I know it’s not sweet because she was the one who played but you all know I don’t do sports.”
Nick slapped my back while laughing and Sarah continued to shrieked while her mom just continued to smile at me. I was glad that they accepted Ashantee with all their heart. And there was nothing I could ask for more now.
It was already midnight when all the talking was done and I was asked to stay the night. Slumping down on the bed, I reached for my phone and typed a message to Ashantee.

The next day didn’t go as I planned. We were supposed to spend the day together but with me having an exam one after the other and her with hockey training, we didn’t see much of each other. And I can’t believe I was already missing her.
Through text and calls, we have supported each others.
I was really lucky to meet her.
Her championship game would be this Friday. I wouldn’t miss it for the world since it would be the day I’ll be asking her to be my girlfriend but my Prof just had to schedule our exam that day. And I can’t not attend it. It was my one of my major subject and I need to pass that exam if I want to pass the year.
Good thing that the game would start at one o’clock. I just have to finish the exam before that and race to the rink.
I laughed at myself. Yeah, right. As if I could finish the exam in under an hour.
I opened my phone and clicked through the gallery. I was currently in class, listening to a boring subject. And I needed something to urge me to survive the day.
I found what I was looking for. It was a picture of me and Ashantee in my apartment. Our movie night bonding. We were sitting on the sofa and she kissed me on the cheek just as I clicked the camera.
I smiled goofy-ly as I stare at the picture.
I was such a lucky man to meet a girl like Ashantee.
Friday, at 12 o’clock, I kept staring at the wall clock as I waited for the prof to enter the room and start the exams. I needed to go to Ashantee’s game. I promised her I would watch. I turned my phone off so that I wouldn’t have any distraction but I was itching to open it.
At 12:15, I couldn’t sit still and I wanted to bang my head on the desk when the prof still hasn’t arrived yet. Apparently, she was caught on traffic and she wants us to wait for her.
At 12:30, I lost all hope of attending the game. There was no way I could finish the exam under thirty minutes. I’m not a genius. Mentally slapping myself in frustration, it took all my willpower to stop myself from leaving the room.
By 12:35, the prof arrived and we started the exam with no further ado. I tried my best to go through the questions as fast as I can. Not bothering to read it twice. In the middle of answering, I felt my heart stop. A feeling that told me something was wrong and Ashantee’s face invaded my mind.
Please don’t let anything happen to her.
With much more reason to rush, I quickly went over the paper and answered it. Not bothering if it was right or if the prof could even read my writing. All I know was that I need to hurry up.
Answering the last question, I grabbed the paper off the desk not caring if it ripped and passed it to the prof. Leaving dust behind me, I ran out of the room. Not stopping until I was inside my car. I quickly started it and rushed out the parking lot. I raced through the streets and thankfully I didn’t had any red lights.
It was 1:45 when I arrived. The rink was full. I saw Sarah near the front and I ran towards her. She had this worried look on her face and I turned towards the rink. The DevilSaint were obviously losing. They were twelve points behind the Ice Rogue.
I stared at the moving figure on the rink and I saw no number 24. Ashantee wasn’t in the rink.
“What happened?” I asked Sarah.
“Ashantee’s MIA. And without her, the DevilSaint lost their confidence.”
I ran towards the box where the DevilSaint extra player were sitting and thank goodness Liz was in it.
“Liz!” I called.
“Oh, thank goodness you’re here. Please tell me Ashantee’s with you. She’s not answering our calls and texts! And I don’t feel too good about it.”
I was about to turn back to the parking lot to look for her when a figure caught my attention. There on the side, was Ashantee. She apologized to the coach and she was put in line with Liz to enter the rink on the next shift.
I went back besides Sarah and sat. I watched the game unfold in front of me and when the whistle sound, Ashantee was the last one to enter the rink. But when her feet touched the ice, she turned to the side almost falling but she managed to stay upright. I frowned and saw that even Sarah noticed it.
But with renewed fervor that their captain brought with her, the DevilSaint started to close distance of the points until they were tied.
Though, Ashantee rarely let the puck stay with her for more than a few seconds before she would pass it. And there was something wrong with the way she skates. She was still graceful in her movements but it wasn’t as perfect as I first saw her.
