(Seth’s PoV)
I drove home high with feelings I don’t know. My heart wouldn’t stop jumping out of my chest and I was already missing her. Like I didn’t just saw her an hour ago. I dropped to my bed. My head full of her. They way her eyes shines when she smiles. The way her laugh sounds and the things they do to me.
But I was kicked out of my reverie when I saw the calendar. Groaning, I sat up to read it properly and I wasn’t mistaken.
I only have one class tomorrow but it was an exam.
Damn.
Standing up, I jumped towards my desk and looked for the book that I needed to read. For the next couple of hours, I had my nose stuck in a book.
I jumped up when my alarm clock blared. I quickly turned it off and open the curtain. The rays of the sun blinding me for a moment as I made a realization.
I haven’t sleep a wink!
Grudgingly, I made my way towards my kitchen and threw a pack of nuggets in a microwave and clicked some buttons. Yawning, I poured myself a glass of orange juice and fell down in the counter chair.
With a smile, I drank the juice as I waited for my food. I didn’t regret anything. I don’t care if I don’t get to sleep as long as I could spend my time with Ashantee.
With a beeping sound, the microwave made it known that it was done with its cycle. I wore a baking glove on my right hand to get the pack of food out of it. Munching it one after the other, I was done in no time. I rushed into my room and grabbed a change of clothes.
I rushed to school, not bothering to follow the speed limit because I wanted to get there early so that I could do a little more reading.
At the room, I was one of the few people who arrived there early. Sitting down on my usual place, I opened the book in front of me and read some more.
I didn’t noticed the time. So, I was shocked when I saw the Professor walked into the room and I noticed that all my classmates were already there. Laughing lowly to myself, I closed my book and hid it inside my bag.
Papers were passed from the front and the prof gave us strictly two hours to complete the exam. The room was eerily quiet and all I could hear was the scratching of pen in the paper. I gave all my attention to it and I was shocked when I finished the exam even before the time was up. I stood up and gave the Prof my paper and left the room.
I took my phone out of my pocket. I had it on silent for the whole time as to not distract me. And I saw that I had five missed calls from Ashantee. Frowning, I opened it and saw that each was made one after the other. But she had classes today. Why would she call me?
Then, I noticed one unread message from her. I quickly opened it. There were only four words inside but it was enough for my world to stop spinning.
Help me. I’m scared. -A
I ran down the hallway as I dialed her number. Her phone kept ringing and she wasn’t answering. My heart constricting in fear for her safety. And everything was a blur around me.
I jumped in my car and hastily left the parking lot. With no care for the speed limit, I pushed my car towards her house. I reached her house and I didn’t bother to remove the key from the car before I jumped out.
I knocked on the door but there was no answer. Trying the knob, I found out that it wasn’t locked. Fear was eating me inside.
Please, don’t let anything happen to her.
I slowly opened the door and saw that the house was empty.
“Ashantee?” I called softly. There was no answer.
Everything was quiet. Nothing looked out of place except that it was empty. Before I could take a look around the house to find her, my phone suddenly rung and I jumped out of my skin and dropped the phone. I picked it up and answered it.
“Ashantee!”
“Seth?” She breathe. Fear was obvious in her voice.
“Where are you? I’ve received your text and I’m here at your house.”
“I’m not there. I couldn’t stay there alone.” She answered. “I’m at the rink. I feel safe here.” She laugh. But there was an edge in her voice. “Not to mention, plenty of people.”
“Stay there,” I said as I ran out of the house towards my car. “I’m on my way.”
“Drive safely, Seth.” Then she ended the call.
I was gripping the steering wheel so tightly that my fingers were going white and numb. I raced through the road. Seeing the rink, I stepped on the gas and drifted into the first parking space I saw. There were two buses and a couple of cars parked.
I took my keys out and shut the door. Running, I set off to find her. And I saw her on one of the benches. Her knees closed to her chest and her head resting on it. She was staring at the kids on the rink. A painful smile on her face.
I slowly walked towards her and sat down besides her. She jumped from the chair and she almost fell. I stood up and pulled her towards me and I gently sat her again.
“Seth,” She breathe a sigh of relief.
“What happened?” I tried to keep my voice calm but the truth was I wanted to kill whoever made her feel so scared that she would skip her class.
“I…” She started but she choked on a sob.
I knelt in front of her and pulled her towards me. Her head resting in my chest as she cried silently. I ran a hand down her hair and whispered comforting words at her ears.
“Tell me.” I urged her gently.
She leaned away from me and dried her tears. Her eyes red and puffy, evidence that she was crying even before I had arrived. I coated her and pulled her towards the rink’s cafe. I ordered us hot chocolate to calm her down.
“Have you told your friends?” I asked as I gave her the drink.
She put her hands around the warm drink. “No. Honestly, you were the first person that came to mind.”
Out of the fear and anger I was feeling right now, came a flood of happiness that she trusted me enough to call me when she feel scared. I put a hand around hers and she looked up at me with thankful eyes.
“And,” she continued as she reached for something in her jean’s pocket. “because of this.”
She revealed a photo and left it in the table for me to see. It was a photo from last night. The moment she hugged me. My eyes widened. We took plenty of photos together yesterday but this wasn’t one of them. And it only meant that someone was watching either me or her.
“Ashantee,” I started to say but she cut me off.
“It’s my trouble, Seth. I’m just afraid that you’ll get involve.”
“What makes you so sure that it’s your trouble?” I asked her.
“There’s something written behind it, Seth. Read it.”
I picked the photo up and saw something that was written in red ink.
“Have you had a great date, Ashantee Avery?”
“No, no. This isn’t enough to blame yourself, Ashantee.” I pressed and then I saw something flashed in her eyes. She wasn’t telling me something and I wasn’t sure she will. “What is it, Ashantee?”
“There’s. . . There’s someone watching me for the past weeks, Seth.” She started, fear was the only emotion I could hear and feel from her right now. “I feel it. And sometimes I would see a shadow from the windows and it would ran every time I notice.”
“Have you reported this to the police” I balled my hands in anger and I really wanted to kill whoever this man was. He had no right to scare Ashantee like this.
“I did. Before. It was last Saturday. But they couldn’t open a case since there wasn’t evidence.” Then, she looked up at me, tears pooling in her eyes. “Seth, I’m scared.”800Please respect copyright.PENANA2JxVcNVKKt
