(Seth’s PoV)
I was glad that she liked it. Her eyes twinkled when she saw the park. Her voice much more livelier and her smile.
Damn.
Her smile was enough to make my heart stop beating. And as I looked down at our joined hands, I couldn’t stop the smile that escape my lips. I can’t believe that I was floating on cloud nine again.
“What do you want to try first?” I asked her as we entered the park.
The park was pack of people but not that full. They were ride lines that zigzag at many ends but there were also lines that moved quickly. Her eyes scanned our surrounding and she had this childish look on her face. Like she was free from all or any problems.
She gasped and pointed to one ride. I followed her hand and saw that she was pointing to the roller coaster. With a laugh, she started to pull me to the line. She groaned when she realized that we would be waiting for a long time before it would be our turn.
We started to talk about things like what we’ve been busy for the eight days we didn’t talked. She laughed at my jokes and sympathized at my busy schedule at school and blushed when she realized I made time for her.
But when I asked her what she have been doing for the last few days, something dark flashed in her eyes and she refused to meet my eyes. Before I could press the topic, it was our turn to ride. She pulled me towards the very front of the coaster train.
When the ride started, the dark shadow vanished from her eyes and joy replaced it. She was laughing and I was laughing with her. When the ride stopped, our stomach hurt from too much laughing. And as soon as our feet was firming in the ground, she started to pull me towards another ride.
And I looked up and saw that she was pulling me towards a big ride. The chairs was positioned in a circle and it was spinning at 360 degrees. It was held up by a big pole that was supported by four sturdy pole and it waved there at 180 degrees.
“I’ll treat dinner.” She suddenly said out of the blue. “Since you paid for our tickets.”
“No,” I disagreed. “I’ll pay for dinner too. Doesn’t it work like that? Guys pay for everything at a date.”
She scoffed at me and crossed her arms. “That hardly seems fair, now does it? I have my money, too.”
“No.” I pressed firmly.
“Okay, let’s do it like this. A bet.”
“A bet?”
She nodded. “Yes, when we ride that one, we need to raise our hands above our head through the whole time. The one who remains ‘til the end treats dinner.”
“Deal.” I gave her my head and she shook it. “Anyway, I haven’t seen you at the restaurant again.”
She laughed. “Oh, that’s because I don’t really work there. My mom was a friend of the owner and she would call me every time they need extra hands.” I nodded in understanding. This woman really likes to keep herself busy.
She practically jumped up and down in excitement when it was our turn. Of course, we sat next to each other and raised our hands. She was laughing and shouting in glee and I couldn’t stop staring at her.
In the middle of the ride, I felt my stomach churning and fire burning my throat. My eyes huge with shock as I almost threw up. My hands flew to my mouth and she shouted when she realized she won our bet. Once we were on the ground, I ran towards the nearest rest room and threw up.
I found her waiting outside the door with a phone in her ear. And even though I couldn’t hear it, I knew that it went to voice mail because of how long she waited.
“Hey, you know,” She paused. “I’m on a date right now. Makes you feel bad for leaving me alone, huh?” She said in a tone that was obviously trying to be brave. “I guess, I’ll call you later.”
She then ended the call. I had to calm down my beating heart. Could it be that she was using me to make someone jealous? So, I’m a rebound, huh?
I shook the thought out of my head then took a deep breath before I closed the distant between us.
I could see that she was trying her best not to laugh at my haggard look. I could not believed that I just threw up on our first date.
“Are you okay?” She asked, worried pasted on her face when I just kept staring.
I nodded. “Yeah, sorry about that.”
She laughed. Like soft wind chimes. “Okay, tough guy. Dinner is mine. And let’s ride something relaxing for a change.” Then her eyes scanned the park. “What about the Ferris wheel?”
We fell in line and we didn’t had to wait for long since this Ferris wheel was one of the biggest in our country.
She looked innocently down the park and I looked too. The park looked so small at this height at the blinding lights they create looked like a sea of stars. Then, I turned to look at her and I was captivated by everything she was.
She saw me looking at her and she turned to me. I gave her a smile. Suddenly, it started to snow and we looked out the window again.
After three more rides, we were on our way to the car when she suddenly hugged me. Her arms around my neck and I put my hand around her waist.
“Thank you, Seth. You don’t know how happy I am today.”
“Anything for you, beautiful.” I whispered in her ears.
She leaned back and gave me her sweet smile. I opened the car door for her before climbing on.
“Where do you want to eat?” I asked her.
“You know, I’ve missed eating at KFC.”
“KFC, it is!” I said with a mock salute.
We stopped in front of the nearest KFC and I opened the door for her. We went straight to the counter and luckily, there was no one in line because I was starving.
“Good afternoon, may I take your order?” The lady asked. Winking at me.
I turned towards Ashantee and saw her glaring at the lady in the counter. Then, she cleared her throat before making her order, “One set of Overloaded with a cookies and cream crusher and a bucket of fries.”
The lady didn’t made any indication that she heard Ashantee’s order. So, Ashantee’s glare turned into all-out furious. I cleared my throat, nervous about what Ashantee might do in anger. I opened my mouth, ready to speak when Ashantee suddenly grabbed me by the arm and pulled me towards her.
The lady’s eyes widened in surprise and a flash of fright and shame crossed her eyes. She quickly inserted her order and asked for mine. I ordered the same as Ashantee’s.
With a laugh, Ashantee pulled me to the waiting counter. After taking our order, we sat on the nearest book and Ashantee took a single fries and ate it.
“You know, you could be a real distraction.” She said out of the blue. “Every girl around you see nothing but you.”
“Is that bad?” I asked as I thought about it. So, that was what the winking is all about.
“I guess not.”
We’ve talked about a lot of things during dinner. And I didn’t brought up the topic again. I was afraid that she’s scold me for being too curious about her private life.
I enjoyed the day more than I thought I would. And with much disappointment, I was already dropping her off. I opened the door for her and walked her up to her front door.
“Thank you,” She smiled. Then suddenly, she gave me a kiss in the cheeks. “Bye, Seth.”
