(Ashantee’s PoV)
I woke up when my alarm clock started to blare. I scrambled out of my bed to kill it but I accidentally fell to the floor with a loud thud. Groaning, I stood up and held my aching waist as I turned my alarm clock off.
I stretched to remove the stiffness I felt. Then, I quickly ran down to the kitchen. Taking two steps at a time, making loud noises that echoed in the empty house. I jumped the last three steps and spin once in the air. Making a pose at the end. My arms outstretched and I bowed to my imaginary audiences.
When I stood up straight, I saw a shadow ran away from the big window, in front of the stairs. I stood frozen in place. Fright was holding me still.
Minute passed.
Two minutes passed.
Ten minutes passed.
When fifteen minute passed and the shadow didn’t came back, I could finally able to breath properly. Shaking my head of the crazy thought, I must have just imagined that shadow. Suddenly, my eyes wandered to the clock above the archway that lead to the living room I saw that I didn’t had time for breakfast anymore.
Running up my room again, I took a quick shower and shimmied into a black jeans and a blue turtle neck long sleeve shirt. I took my bag up and slung it over my shoulder.
I jogged down and left the house. I made extra sure that it was locked. I just couldn’t feel safe after I saw that shadow.
I walked down the road towards the school. Though, Liz have made a thousand offer to pick me up every morning, I have refused a thousand times, too. Because I considered this as an exercise and I got to spend enough time with them in school and after school.
I’ve reached the school grounds and people greeted me and I made sure to return it. I walked straight towards my locker and entered my lock combination. After dumping the books I don’t need for this morning, I closed it and came face to face with Liz.
I jumped back in shocked and put a hand above my racing heart. Liz gave me a strange look and asked me if I was alright.
“I am. Just jumpy.” I replied with a shaky laugh. “Bad dream.”
I could tell that she wasn’t convinced but thankful that she didn’t pressed it. We walked side by side towards our homeroom.
“Anyway, Shantee, did Mr. Yummy called you last night?” She asked with a knowing smirk and her brows dancing up and down.
I playfully slapped her as I rolled my eyes. “Quit it with the innuendos, Liz. Besides, he’s a second year college.”
She gasped. “Have you ever heard the saying ‘Age doesn’t matter’? Besides you’re graduating.”
I laughed at her and gave her a funny stare. “A young graduate, remember?”
Realization crossed her face as her right hand flew to her forehead. “Oh yeah, you started school early.”
We reached our room and sat by the two empty seats in the middle of the room. She turned towards me,
“So, what age is he? 19 or 20?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know.”
The bell rung and our conversation was cut as our homeroom teacher entered the class. She whispered to me before facing the front, “Let’s continue this later.”
After homeroom, we went our separate ways since we had different class schedule. I quickly made my way towards my first subject and ran into Abigail, a friend of mine from Drama club.
“Ashantee!” She greeted and we entered the room together.
Abigail’s a pretty lady. She had hair as black as a raven and her eyes a twinkling brown. She was a little short for her age but it didn’t lessen her sexiness. She got the role of my best friend in the play and I couldn’t have pick a better one.
“I am so excited for our play!” She squeaked. “And you are so perfect for the lead role!”
I felt my cheeks go red. Everyone kept saying that but I was nervous as hell. Our conversation was cut short when the teacher arrived.
Time flies by and without me really noticing it, I was already making my way towards the cafeteria. Like all the cafeteria in all high school, people was sitting in a table that their own little group have taken. And like all the others, the famous ones have occupied the center.
The DevilSaint were once asked to have the privilege of having a table besides the jocks. But we have refused.
What made this cafeteria different than the others? The long table by the left side. It was actually made of two tables. Pulled together to actually fit all of us.
I quickly fell in line and order a vegetable salad, mash potato and a coke. I made my way towards the attention-getter table and when I passed by the cheerleader tables, they actually sneered at me and I gave them a charming smile.
They hated me. They hated my group because we gather attention to ourselves without even trying. Besides, we’re Hockey players and actors. It’ll be hard to not gather attention.
I sat in the middle of Liz and Regina, a girl from Drama club. The conversation quickly started and we all fell into a rhythm we were familiar with. This table actually house the DevilSaints and the members of the drama club. Explaining the need for a long table.
DevilSaint consisted of all girls, obviously. But my drama club friends had five boys and seven girls, including me. We were laughing at a joke Walter made when my phone rang.
They all went silent as I answered it. “Hello?”
“Ashantee, I hope I’m not disturbing anything.”
I sucked in a deep breath. I didn’t looked at the caller name so I wasn’t expecting to hear his warm husky voice. “Seth,” I breathe.
Suddenly, my girl friends started to shrieked and the boys whistled. I keep shushing them but they weren’t listening.
“Who is it?” Jone asked.
“Is it the man you met on the rink?” Chloe, a DevilSaint defenseman asked.
“What does he look like?” Emma asked, a drama club member.
“Hey! If you make my girl cry I’ll kill you!” Jonh shouted and the rest of the boys chimes in.
“Is he handsome?” “When are you going to introduce him to us?” By this time, I have lost track of who was asking what.
“Sorry about that, Seth. What did you say?” I said, covering my other ear to hear him better.
He chuckled and it send sweet shiver down my sensitive spine. “I just want to ask if you want to meet up today?”
By now, my friends have shut up and tried to listen to the conversation I was having. I rolled my hands at them and made a shooing gestures with my hand. They pretended not to listen but I know better.
“Sorry, Seth. I can’t.” I said, really disappointed that I won’t be seeing him today.
My friends likely understood what we were talking about because they groaned at me. I chose to ignore them.
“If you don’t want too, that’s fine.” Seth said.
“No, no.” I rushed. “It’s not like that. It’s just that, I have Gymnastics today.”
I could imagine the shocked he have on his face. “Gymnastics? Now that’s a sight to see.”
I laughed. “No, you wouldn’t want to see me like that. I look like a dork.”
“Now, that’s not true. I’m sure what ever you do and wear you’ll look great in it. Anyway, hockey the day before yesterday? Drama club yesterday? And today, gymnastics?”
“What can I say? I’m a busy person.”
He laughed again. “Okay then, I won’t occupy your time since you’re with your friends. Next time then?”
“Yes, next time.” I promised.
I ended the call and noticed my friends grinning at me. A scary grin. One that reached both ears and eyes that was trying to say something to me.
Good thing the bell rung, signaling the end of lunch and I quickly ran away from them.766Please respect copyright.PENANAryaQHNKWZr
