(Seth’s PoV)
Saturday came and I was driving towards my cousin’s house. It has been two days since I’ve saw Ashantee. But I’ve called her a couple of times and we talked for more than half an hour. I also made sure to text her once in a while.
I stopped in front of an humble home. It was isolated by iron fences and a small gate. The house was a two-story that was perfect for a small family. I got out of the car and walked up the patio. I rung the bell and I could hear footsteps before the door opened.
I was greeted by my aunt Maria. She hugged me tightly before pointing me to the backyard and she left for the kitchen. With a smile, I went out the garden where my cousins, Sarah and Nick was bantering about what was best for barbecue. Their dad on the side, grilling some patties.
“Hey guys,” I called.
Sarah quickly ran to me and gave me a hug. Nick gave me slap on the back while uncle patted my head like I was a little kid.
“Seth! Seth! Seth!” Sarah exclaimed while jumping up and down. Her dad laughed at her childish behavior while Nick went in to help his mom bring out the meat for barbecue.
“What is it, Sarah? I didn’t forget anything, did I?”
“No!” She immediately denied then continued like I didn’t just interrupt her. “The DevilSaint are playing for championship next week!”
My eyes grew in shock before my lips turned up for a smile. “Really?”
“Yes! And we have to watch!” Sarah demanded. “We have too!”
“Sarah, dear,” Her mom’s voices interjected as they came to the garden. “You can’t always demand your cousin to attend to a game. Besides, it’s not even your game.”
Sarah huffed and crossed her arms as she turned to look at her mom with a knowing look. My eyes grew as I figured out what she would answer. I made a jump to cover her mouth but she ran away from me. I followed after her but she hid behind her dad and stuck her tongue out at me.
“What is it?” Nick said curiously.
“Well, I am not demanding him to go!” Sarah continued and I made a move towards her but she ran towards her brother who protected her because he was curious as to what I was trying hard to prevent her from saying. “I was just stating the fact that the DevilSaint will be having a chance to win their fourth championship.”
“And why would Seth be interested in this?” Uncle asked as he left the patties forgotten on the grill.
“Well,” Sarah dragged the words out and I sunk into the wooden bench in defeat. There was no stopping her now that everyone was curious. “Seth’s dating the DevilSaint’s captain.”
Every mouth on the garden dropped open. I could understand where their shock was coming from since I wasn’t interested in any girls and this have been the first time.
But I rolled my eyes at Sarah’s exaggeration. “We’re not dating, Sarah.”
“Really now? My nephew is all grown up, huh?” Uncle said with a laugh.
“So, when were you going to introduce this lucky lady to us?” Nick asked as he gave me more slap on the back.
“I told you we are not dating.” I cleared. “I’ve just met her on Sarah’s last game.” I was the only one who managed to attend Sarah’s last game since her parents had an out-of-town business and her brother had his exams on that day. I’ve attended many of her games, but that was the first one I went into that they were against the DevilSaint.
“So, are you interested in this girl?” Aunt asked.
With no choice but to be honest, I nodded. When Sarah shrieked and her mom giggled with her while Nick and uncle bellowed, my left hand rubbed the back of my neck in embarrassment.
Suddenly, we all smelled something burning and all eyes darting to the grill that was making black smokes. Laughter filled the air as uncle rushed to fix it.
After dinner, which ended on a late time because of all the things we did, aunt told me to stay the night. I immediately agreed because I was too sleepy to drive. I went into the guess room and fell asleep as soon as I sunk into the bed.
After the barbecue at my cousins’s, it has been eight days and I wasn’t able to call or text Ashantee because our professor decided to bury us with projects and researches. I’m sure that she thinks I’ve been ignoring her and I tried to think of ways to make it up to her.
The bell rung and I stood up from my chair and went straight to the Prof’s table. I put a folder in it before going out. And when I reached the car, I thought of the perfect way to make it up to her. I picked my phone and typed a message.823Please respect copyright.PENANACvOkZP3sEi
