"Well, I'm a convict. I was released a few days ago and I know I'm not a good person, but I wanted to meet the daughter who I didn't raise. I'll admit that I was a really bad person, but I'm changed now, and I hope you see that and come talk to me. I still do love your mother, but hearing that news from the doctor that my daughter won't be able to fish with me or go swimming with me is awful news. I wasn't the best person either, but I have been through a lot of anger management classes and I just care about you. I hired somebody to track your mother down when I got out of prison like a month ago. I've found you and I know that you probably don't want anything to do with me. But, I guess I wanted to try and be a father figure for you now if you'll allow me" He started tearing up.
"I never even knew you existed, so you have to give me time to think about all of this new information. I just found out you're my father and I thought you were dead. This is a little shocking to me. I need time!"
"It's okay Kylie I understand" my father said.
My father got up and started to walk out of the room. Before he could go I wrapped him up in a great big hug and told him that I'm glad I finally met him again and that he's my father. I have to start somewhere forgiving.
He pulled away and said, "what's that for" he smiled
"In case I never get to do it again, you know mom is overprotective of me because I'm fragile as it is. She doesn't need another thing to be added into her drama-filled hard life."
"You know your mom can be very manipulative and controlling."
"I know, but it's the only way she can show love is by protecting me."
"Your mother is one of a kind."
"I know"
"Alright, well let me just give you where I'm staying and my phone number. Call me if you need anything, okay?"
"Okay."
He wrote his number on the receipt from the food that he bought me. I looked at it and it was a local hotel up the road. He walked out of the room and closed the door, just then my mom woke up.
"Kylie"
"Mom?"
"Yes, your father is alive but I actually didn't know much about him sweetie, I thought he left us."
"Mom, he went to prison."
"For what?"
"I don't know, I didn't get into the details."
"Okay, well all you need to know is your father is a manipulative man."
I thought to myself, that's what he said about her. I know her more than he does, but my mom and I typically don't spend much time together. She's always working, always doing something else, or I am. When one of us is free, the other is busy.
"That's what he said about you, Mom. Get some rest, visitation is almost over and I have to go home!"
"Okay, goodnight" I kissed her on her forehead and headed outside. I called Marissa,
"Hello?"
"Marissa, my father is alive and my mother is in the hospital, life just gets worse and worse from there, but I just need a ride home please?" I asked while crying.
"I'm busy right now, I'm not even in town, but I'm so sorry to hear that I will be in town tomorrow and we can talk about it then."
"Okay, bye"
"Night, Kylie!"
The following person could be Lee or Mystery Man. I chose Mystery Man because he made me feel emotionally high. I messaged him off Gramsta,
"Hey, Mystery Man!"
"Yes?"
"I need help, like I'm at the hospital and I need to get home!"
"I would but I'm swamped! I'm so sorry!"
I left him on seen, and talked to the last person I could think of, Lee. I texted him.
"Lee, my mom is in the hospital and I'm stuck here, you totally know that I can't drive and my mom was taken in an ambulance, can you please help me?"
"Yes, on my way, be there in 10 minutes."
Lee picked me up, and I told him not to drive yet; I told him that my mom was in the hospital, my father was still alive, and everything was going on. I told him that my life was crumbling to pieces. Lee didn't say anything, but he did grab my hand and pull me in an embrace. A long hug that was like 5 minutes long stopped my tears because I felt secure, and I still thought I had part of his heart with me. His heart was still pounding the way it always did. He loved me, and he wasn't gonna hide that. That's what I always loved about him. He never hid things from me but instead influenced me to try new things. It was hard to say that I still loved him and thought he was my ying to his yang.
We got to my house, and he told me that he was here for anything whenever I needed it. Lee told me he cared about me and didn't want anything bad to happen to me. He told me he was a protector of me and that he would do anything to save me from becoming bitter or sad. He then let me out of his car and walked me to my door when he said,
"Kylie, I really care about you so maybe we can try and be friends again, I really miss you!"
"I miss you too Lee, more than you can imagine!"
I tripped on my way inside, and Lee caught me.
"I'm so sorry, I'm such a klutz." Once again, maybe accidental, or maybe my mind subliminally doing it, I don't know.
"No, you're fine!" he laughed playfully.
I made it through the door and locked the door behind me. I went upstairs to my room, closed my door, turned off my lights and went to bed. I deserved a good night's rest after the day I had. I was so tired that the minute I just sprawled on the bed, I fell asleep. Mr. Sandman came to me very quickly that night.
The next day I was so tired. I woke up, went downstairs, poured myself some cereal and plopped on the couch. I turned on the news, and I was instantly intrigued by what I was viewing.
"Sir, can you tell us why you decided to paint this huge picture and hang it outside a building?" The reporter was asking.
"I want my daughter to see that her artistic skills are what she makes of them and that there's no limit to what you can achieve artistically. I also want to tell her that her artistic abilities come from me."
Wow, I never thought that my father would be artistically inclined. He seemed the exact opposite. He didn't have tattoos but he seemed like a buff, emotionless man. He didn't even seem like he would know how to hold a paintbrush, yet know how to use one. I knew he wasn't emotionless because he cried in front of me. You would never guess he was a softie though. I was zoning out while thinking about that and then he said on the public news, for everyone to hear.
"I love you Kylie, don't let your disease define you!"
I cannot believe that he just told the entire news channel that I have a disease, now everybody is going to see. I asked Lee next door for a ride to my dad's hotel, it was late like 10 o'clock and I knocked on his room door.
"Kylie, what are you doing.."
"No Kylie this or that. What was going through your head when you decided to tell the entire news channel that I have a disease? It is very disgraceful and threatening to me. Did you give one minute to think about me or were you only thinking about your 15 minutes of fame? I get teased for being different everywhere I have been, my entire life! Even the teachers treat me differently. I have to hide my skin condition, I can't let people see it. And you have the nerve to tell the entire world what is going on with me! How dare you!" I went off on him and felt terrible as soon as I did, but he had crossed a vast boundary.
"Kylie, if you let people look at you and get to know you they will only feel betrayed if you eventually tell them you have a disease. However, if you are straightforward with everything and you tell the truth right away they will see that you are brave and courageous and that you won't let the disease define you. By hiding it the way you are you are literally letting the disease define you."
"I guess I understand your thought, but you had no right! What about the people who want to hurt me, did you give that any thought at all? I am not liked at school. These two girls literally tried throwing me into a pool and they had no idea I have a disease and the pool could kill me! Now, that's all they are going to try to do. By doing this you made me into a chew toy for them."
"I'm sorry, Kylie, I didn't think about that; I am so sorry."
"You need to talk to me before anything like this. I swear nobody cares what I think. I am not stupid."
I walked out and I went back into Lee's car.
"Lee, why do people have to be so damn careless? Or senseless? Or selfish?"
"Kylie, he wasn't being careless. He cares about you and he wanted you to stop putting yourself down all the time, he wanted you to stop being scared of water and stop treating people such as Neisha like they are superior to you. You have a disease that only around 100 people in the entire world have. Just with that you are unique, not going into much about you, you are unique and beautiful and kind-hearted anybody who sees you on the street could see that. Why can't you?"
"I always thought of myself as inferior to Neisha because she has perfect skin, perfect nails, perfect everything."
"Do you have any idea how much drama that girl goes through at this young age?" He said like he was older than his years.
"No" I pretended not to know. Even though I did.
"Her dirty laundry is all over the school, her father died, and she's living with Leah. The only reason she teases you is because her life is stressful, and you're a way she can feel better about herself by bullying you. I don't know how many times I have to tell you before you believe it"
"I don't know, I don't trust you anymore, you said you loved me so that you could have sex with me. You said you loved me and now you say you care about me and I don't know how I feel about that honestly. I don't know whether it's the truth or a lie that spills from your mouth!"
"I don't know what to say except that I'm sorry. I can't erase the pain or make it better, all I can say is that I am sorry."
"Actions prove more than words, if you're my friend you gotta do other stuff except say I'm sorry. That word is so original, and I've heard it a million times in movies"
"Okay I will do better."
"Quick question, my mom is in the hospital. Do you think we can go visit her?"
"Sure thing," said Lee
When Lee drove me to the hospital I ran in and there my mom was again, sleeping. She was just so silent like a sleeping baby and I didn't want to wake her. I practiced telling her what was going on with Lee and I and that we wanted to be friends, but I was terrified of what she would say. During that time, my father also came to see her. The nurse came in and told me that my mom should be able to be released tomorrow. I asked Lee when he took me back home if he could also take me tomorrow when my mom was released he said yes. I was so joyful, and I told Marissa what was happening with my mom. She was so happy to find that my mother would be released tomorrow. I slept like a baby again that night. Not because I was exhausted from the events during that day but because, for once, I wasn't scared that things would happen again. The next day I texted Lee,
"Can we go pick up my mom?" at 7am.
"Kylie, it's 7am and you can't pick her up until 9am."
"Okay" I said.
We went back to the hospital and the nurse told me that my mom left. She packed up her stuff and left. She must have left really fast. What was her rush? Why did she leave after my father showed up? Was she really that scared that she left without me? Was there something else that I am missing here? Where's my mother?
