Nu took a deep breath, trying desperately to stop her hands from shaking. "I can try," she agreed, holding the weapon like Mag had shown her. But being in the throes of battle was a different thing entirely to sparring with her best friend. Wouldn't the weapon be better off with Jayden or Vandal? After all, they clearly had combat training and would probably not be as scared or weak as Nu...
No, Nu thought to herself, Vandal gave it to me, and Jayden would have asked if he wanted it.
That thought bolstered her, and she was ready for a fight when the Umbra lunged for them again.
Nu skirted past Jayden and pushed him out of the way of the attack, stabbing downward at the approaching tongue with the tooth. Her weak attack missed, however, and the Umbra redirected its attack towards Nu, hoping to grab her with its disgusting appendage.
"You're going to try and fight me?~" The Umbra laughed. "Maybe this will be fun after all~"
Nu jumped back away from the creature's attack, holding the tooth out defensively in front of her readied for the next attack.
The Umbra darted forward quickly, and situated itself between Jayden and Nu, cutting her off from his help.
"I'm going to eat you first~" it said with a horrifying grin.
That deadly tongue shot out again, trying to impale Nu. She swiped it aside with the tooth, but the creature's saliva brushed her hand, singeing it.
Before the Umbra could take advantage of the situation, however, Jayden kicked it hard from behind. "Hey! Don't count me out of this fight!"
The Umbra turned to meet Jayden's next attack and Nu saw her opening. She stabbed the tooth deep into the creature's body. The enchanted fire Vandal had imbued the weapon with erupted, and the creature screeched.
Nu let go of the tooth and stepped back, covering her ears. The fire was raging, consuming the creature in flames and making it's blackened skin bubble disgustingly.
In one last spiteful attempt to take them down with it, the Umbra lashed out with it's tongue, unable to see as it's eyes melted from its sockets. The pathetic attack missed, thankfully, and the creature melted away into a pile of acidic goo.
Nu looked at Jayden with wide eyes. "Vandal wasn't kidding about that fire," she said in awe.
She spotted the tooth in the bubbling mass and picked it up hesitantly, holding it out at arms length as the sounds of fighting caught her attention. She looked up to see Senshi still fighting with the giant spider, dodging and weaving it's attacks and firing arrows at it. Vandal was also having great difficulty fighting... whatever that creature was. How could she help both of them?
Looking at the acidic pile of dead Umbra gave her an idea and she practically shoved the tooth into Jayden's hands. "Go help Vandal, please, and then go find cover." She rushed off and crouched under an overhang.
"What are you doing?" Jayden asked.
"I'm going to make it rain," she explained as her birthmark began to burn and glow. "Find cover!" she shouted up at Senshi, hoping she could hear.
Nu closed her eyes, needing to concentrate hard. Mama had only ever done this once before in her life, and it worked wonders against the marauders that were attacking their home. She knew that it would be difficult to channel her energy, though, especially since she had barely rested since healing everyone.
But she had to try.
Mama, please. We need your help.
The sky was already overcast - thank goodness, and Nu could practically feel the moisture in the air thicken. She heard someone cry out in pain, but she couldn't risk breaking her concentration to find out who was hurt.
Slowly, tentatively, the first raindrops started to fall. They sizzled as they landed, the acid rain falling increasingly harder as Nu continued her channeling. Thankfully the rain didn't burn through the metal overhang above her - adjusting the acidity of rain was always such a tricky business, even for someone as powerful as Mama.
Suddenly Nu felt light-headed and she fell to the ground, her connection with the Aether severed. As she lost consciousness, she hoped she had done enough to help her companions...
