Magpie gasped as her eyes fell on unconscious Nu and the stains of blood on her dress. Before she could utter a question Gideon pushed her forcefully out of the room and let her lead out of the building.
Once outside, Caecius walked ahead with Nu in his arms. "What are you intending to do with her?" Hissed Magpie and took a step closer but Gideon rapidly wrapped a tentacle around Magpie's entire right arm. Caecius said nothing but sighed beneath his mask. "Answer me!" She shouted angered while struggling to liberate herself from Gideon's tentacle.
Suddenly the tattoo on her hand glowed bright red and burned Gideon's tentacle. He winced and grunted angered, placing her sword at her throat. "No more tricks." Soon he began to smile as a thought passed his mind. "You are able to conjure lightning at will, why haven't you used it on him and me already from the beginning?"
Magpie scoffed. "I may have magic but I dislike using it."
"If truer words were spoken." Chuckled Gideon and motioned Magpie to keep walking with the sword at her throat. As they walked on Magpie suddenly sensed the foreign magic she had sensed before. It was very close along with another familiar one, Vandal? Her eyes began to scan her surroundings and spotted at far places in the shadows a brief movement and heard once a faint flutter of cloth as the wind blew stronger. Her heart leapt with new hope but knew she wasn't hopeless as the others thought of her. She will use the element of surprise, no matter if Caecius and Gideon are prepared or not. Magpie still has her dagger at her left boot and two slim knives at her corset along with her magic but she will use that as a last resort.
"You are not alone, sweetheart." Whispered Shadow's voice in her mind, Magpie shuddered to his voice and suddenness. She looked down at her tattoo, it shimmered for a moment. "I won't allow any danger befall on you. All you need to do is accept my offer. Allow me to use your magic and you will be free."
Magpie swallowed and looked to her surroundings, hoping to see Vandal's face to ensure it is really him. There was nothing. She took a deep breath to muster her courage and clear her mind, not allowing to fall into Shadow's trap. Magpie wanted to break free and save Nu but the situation is critical with Caecius holding Nu in his arms. She threw a brief glance over her shoulder to Gideon, he was close by. Should I take the risk or wait and see where they will lead me to? No matter which choice, Magpie doesn't like it and their consequences to account for.
She silently swallowed while clenching her fists in anger. Magpie felt the heat in her chest and soon in her right hand. Without thinking, she gripped for Gideon's hand at the hilt of her sword and let his hand burn. While Gideon sucked through his teeth to the pain, Magpie knocked her head back to knock him out. He lets go of her sword and Magpie swung it gracefully into her secure hold and sprinted towards Caecius.
Without turning, Caecius took a large side step as Magpie was about to lunge her sword through his back. Before Magpie could attempt a new attack, her body froze; everything froze. She couldn't even breathe. Caecius calmly turned to her with Nu still in his arms and chuckled softly.
Suddenly a deep snigger filled the air. Soon appeared Shadow a few meters away from Caecius and Magpie. He flexed his hands and his tattoo glowed as his eyes did with excitement. Suddenly Magpie was able to breathe and gasped for air.
Suddenly a tentacle roped around Shadow's foot and slithered around his upper torso. Gideon chuckled as he approached. "Not so much for a shadow." Shadow smiled at him broadly. "Not so much for a monster." He mimicked his voice like Gideon's and took hold of his tentacles. With all his strength he pulled them to make Gideon fall. In lightning speed Shadow sprinted towards falling Gideon and wrapped with his tentacle around his neck tightly, near to a choking point. Pressing firmly a knee on Gideon's back to keep him on the ground and both hands at the ready to do the final pull with Gideon's tentacles. Shadow looked up with a delirious smile to Magpie. "I await your commands, dearest."
At the same time Caecius' magic had no effect on Magpie and she stood with her sword pointed at him and glared.
"How is this possible? The air is everywhere, even in your lungs!" He noted bewildered.
At the corner of Magpie's eye she spotted a flash of orange and red light. It appeared familiar to Magpie and sensed Shadow's magic shifting between good and dark magic. Ignatius? Did he liberate me form Caecius' spell? She threw a brief glance over to Shadow, his red eyes glowed with crazed delight and his appearance was still dark. Quickly Magpie faced Caecius. "Give me Nu, now!" She demanded sternly, yet inside she feared of Shadow and what he might do next. No matter what Caecius decides. She dislikes him and Gideon but they don't deserve death, especially not by Shadow.
