kiznaiver 10 thoughts
Mostly about the small details I love about the show (aka its symbolism), Nico, Tenga, Chidori, and of course: Katsuhira, Noriko, and Katsuhiko.
Sorry for any lack of coherence, I’m both overwhelmed and really sleepy!
^ Literally me.
edit; I forgot to mention some things about Tenga, Nico, Katsuhira, and his flashback to Noriko. So some more thoughts HERE haha
General thoughts:
- “Konchipa”. “Chinpako”. I can’t, Hisomu and Katsuhira are way too cute. Where did they even get that from!?
- Yaamada is such an ass oh my god. The way he literally looks at Chidori when he says the line about spilling out their hearts and getting rejected!
- The way they all keep looking at the missing marks. My heart. But this is great because now they have a choice. Or rather: they will realize they have had a choice for a while now, and they have all been choosing to bond with each other, over and over again. Now what they need to choose is to acknowledge their true selves and show themselves are they are, be honest with each other about their feelings. Not because they are forced to, but because they want to. Because they trust each other and care about each other.
- Honoka is back to isolating herself and I feel as hurt and powerless as Yuta.
The small details:
- So they’re obviously going home, but the directions they walk off towards are as interesting as their original positions. I mentioned this before, but at the start, they are avoiding the person they have the most loaded relationship with.
- Chidori and Nico are on both ends, Tenga separates Yuta and Honoka while staying as far from Chidori as possible without ending up next to Nico.
- Now, contrast that with the shot we get as Katsuhira watches them. Yuta and Honoka walk more or less in the same direction. Hisomu walks off in his own direction. Tenga walks towards Chidori. And both Nico and Chidori walk in such a way that their roads are bound to converge, which I feel does a nice job at showing the way they are connected by unrequited feelings.
- Katsuhira running the moment he hears a voice, hoping it’s Chidori and that they’ll get the chance to talk. His disappointment when he sees Chidori has her curtains drawn (aka, that she has closed herself off to him).
- Nico and Katsuhira are the ones looking around the classroom. Aka, the ones hoping to establish contact with the others to see if they can fix things.
- Literally my reaction! lol, The Cicada strikes back, and right after the episode that made a perfect analogy to what it could represent, if it’s a metaphor about bonds. This one came to the surface and died, which I feel ties in with everyone’s current state. They tried to bond with each other and nearly broke in the process. But that’s because they were always hiding things about themselves, even at the end; not to mention, there was the Kiznaiver System as well. Now though, they are coming to realize that the only way to truly save their friendship is by baring themselves to each other, just like Honoka said the last episode. And once they do it, it’ll be all on them and the Kiznaiver System will have no influence over it.
- And speaking about Cicadas, was this supposed to be a Cicada or a Dragonfly? If it’s the former, it fits perfectly with the fact that they are just about to get another chance to strengthen their bonds with each other. And if it’s a Dragonfly:
The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world, symbolizes change and change in the perspective of self-realization; and the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life. [x]
- Nico curling her hand up in a fist after Yaamada says that Tenga’s the only one who’s hurting. I love this so much because it shows just how wrong Yaamada is. Of course, Tenga isn’t the only one who hurts when he gets wounded: those who care about him hurt, too; the Kiznaiver System has nothing to do with that. And this applies to everyone and I’m certain we’ll see it more clearly next episode as well. Like we also did in Yuta’s scene with Honoka.
- The parallel between Noriko and Katsuhira running, further showing the fact that they are connected with each other even when their marks aren’t activated. Noriko is running because she is overwhelmed and seeking her past. Katsuhira runs literally to meet his past. They are both desperately trying to find themselves, and it’s shown so damn well.
Nico:
- Nico breaks me in half and she continues to perfectly illustrate the messages of the show. Even if you get hurt and hurt each other, bonding and caring about people is worth it.
- Remember episode 6, when Nico and Katsuhira were wondering what activities they should do to become friends?
- It’s so, so fitting that they are the first ones to reach out to each other and realize how simple it truly is! You just have to care about each other, want to understand each other, be willing to let yourself be vulnerable, and forgive each other.
- Her hands were shaking before Katsuhira held them!!
- Nico immediately worries about Noriko, she is such a sweetheart!
- tl; dr Nico is simply amazing. What else is new?
Hisomu:
- Hisomu wonders how the mark will disappear, which seems to imply he had never had a mark before this one. If that’s true, then he must have taken part in the Experiment in a different fashion
yes I am not giving this up. - I’m probably forgetting something, but how did Hisomu know about Katsuhira’s scar with Noriko? Maybe Katsuhira told him off-screen since it looks they have been hanging out together?
- Bless Hisomu for going to check on Katsuhira and keeping him company. And I’m so glad to see his dynamic with Nico come back full force, too, because it’s adorable!
Tenga (+Nico and Chidori)
- Of course, Tenga immediately jumps to protect Chidori’s feelings. He doesn’t need to be connected to her through the Kiznaiver mark to know when she’s hurting and do something about it. Also, he obviously would have wanted to punch Yaamada right then and there, but he held himself back. This is a good contrast to the last episode.
- I LOVE this scene. Tenga admires the way Nico is able to reach out to others and overcome her pain to protect everyone’s friendship with each other. I think this may very well be one of the reasons Tenga dares to approach Chidori at the end. When he looks up after pushing his glasses up, I feel he has made up his mind about something.
- What Tenga told Chidori really caught my eye. I feel you could read that scene two different ways: one is that Chidori is spot on and Tenga was doing it just so Chidori could take that weight off her shoulders - and the other is that Tenga wants to be rejected so he can get closure and actually think about what to do about Nico.
- Again, the way Tenga has been so far may support Tenga doing this mainly for Chidori—but I’d like to think he was also thinking about Nico. It fits the way he was inspired by Nico’s courage earlier in the episode, and it would actually be a good showcase of development after what happened in Episode 9.
- Because by basically saying “sure getting rejected is gonna be hard, but I’d feel worse leaving someone who has feelings for me hanging” Tenga is basically showing his protective nature once again and that while clumsy and inexperienced, he would rather not hurt people if he can help it. So I took this as Tenga showing that he is taking Nico’s feelings into consideration, and wanting to be “set free” (get closure) so he can properly deal with Nico. I may be completely off, though!
Chidori
- I won’t even claim to understand what in the world is Chidori thinking. But what stood out to me is that Tenga asked her to reject him point-blank and she didn’t.
- I repeat: She could have easily rejected Tenga right then. But she didn’t. She even flinched and gasped when Tenga suggested it.
- In fact: she basically changed the topic.
- In my humble opinion, what this comes down to is that Chidori didn’t reject Tenga because she isn’t sure if she wants to do it.
- That said, I’m really wondering how we’re supposed to interpret what Chidori tells him. My best guess is that Chidori may have realized that she has been self-centered up to this point when it comes to the matters of the heart, which lead her to overlook Tenga’s feelings for her and Nico’s pain over her own feelings for Tenga. So she may be beating herself up over that but she is at a loss as to what to do because she still hasn’t mustered the courage to face Katsuhira.
Or maybe I’m giving her too much credit. - So just like Tenga may feel he won’t be able to face Nico until he has gotten closure with Chidori, it’s likely that Chidori feels unable to face Tenga and truly consider her stand until she has gotten closure with Katsuhira. But she is running away from doing that because she hasn’t gathered enough courage to be “hurt properly”, unlike Nico and now Tenga.
Katsuhira, Noriko and Katsuriko:
- Katsuhira’s been so caught up in what happened that he literally forgot to eat. And it’s not like he is unable to prepare his own food; he cooked for himself and Tenga back in episode 3. I think a part of him was probably waiting (aka, hoping) Chidori would drop by to bring him food. In other words: he has been hoping things would go back to normal between them. I knew the canned food would be used for something like this, it’s such a nice touch!
- Of course, Katsuhira tried to email her!! Of course!
- Katsuhira’s little smile when Nico is spinning them around!!
- Hisomu realizes it: if even Katsuhira is feeling it, Noriko’s pain must be really something.
- Urushii and Katsuhira!! I’ve been waiting for this moment and it was even better than I could have possibly imagined, Urushii is so sweet! And this must mean that back when Urushii was surprised at Noriko talking about her past with Katsuhira, her surprise may have been at Noriko bringing up Katsuhira’s feelings for her in the first place.
- No, seriously. Bless Urushii for patting his head in an appreciative, caring manner after all he went through in Episode 9. It’s like this woman is my proxy in this show.
- “You just don’t change.” said right after Katsuhira says he went there thinking he may be able to find Noriko. Always thinking of his Nori-chan. MY HEART.
- To know that this is what must have been going through Noriko’s mind back then, too. Ugh, this is so damn painful. I am still expecting this scene to be continued later though because I’m not sure if Katsuhira is the kid waving in the background.
- Plus!! You can see the same bridge shining in the background, so Noriko is once again doing the same gesture towards the very same bridge.
- THIS SETTLES IT FOR ME. If Noriko didn’t jump and Katsuhira wasn’t feeling Noriko’s physical pain, then he must have been feeling the pain she carries within herself.
- I still think Nico must have hit the nail right on the head. Urushii and Noriko simply aren’t aware of it, and it’s no wonder why. Urushii didn’t see how emotional and pained Noriko looked before she collapsed, and she also didn’t see how emotional she was when she asked Katsuhira whether she existed within him—after which she, again, collapsed! She also had plenty of reasons to feel emotional back in episode 6, which is the first time Katsuhira showed he was able to feel her.
- SO THEY WERE TO NULLIFY HER PAIN!! Damn, they really had me going in circles about this! lol But ever since Katsuhira has started to develop, those injections haven’t been able to truly quill Noriko’s emotions, I feel. I’m taking this as either a testament to the strength of her feelings for Katsuhira or of the fact that their bond goes both ways and Katsuhira regaining some of his feelings affects Noriko, too.
- I knew it!! Granted, it’s one thing to guess it and another to have it confirmed and suffer through it lol But you know what I love the most about it? That you could get an idea that this is what was going on just by the way that ‘colorful space’ scene was directed the last episode. Such, such good work!
- This confirms what I said last week: that the pained children Katsuhira saw do reside within Noriko’s scar, and that all those colorful lights represent them and their pain. So the chances of Katsuhira accessing them through the Noriko that exists within him—aka, through their connection to each other—have raised, too!
- I literally break down just like Katsuhira whenever Nori-chan turns and smiles. To see the way she was and everything she has been enduring all this time is way too painful.
- I love, LOVE how they have spent the entire series showing that Katsuhira has got feeling for Noriko. And to have them confirmed when they were children was just way too sweet and painful at the same time;____;
- No, but seriously. Imagine how it feels like to know that the girl you have loved for 12 years has been literally carrying your pain for you. Every time you got bullied, every time you felt lonely, every time you got hurt: you couldn’t even discern it because she was literally feeling it for you. This makes Katsuhira’s lack of care for himself even more poignant. To make matters worse, you forgot about her and your friends, and when you find them again you discover they have been in such a state all along… Actually, forget it. I don’t want to imagine just how much pain Katsuhira must be feeling right now.
Stuff I expect to play a role:
- “It’s not anyone’s alone. It’s everyone’s.” This is ridiculously fitting to what’s happening to Noriko. And if we put this together with the ending:
With all that sadness you carry,347Please respect copyright.PENANAz0DwMnzD6u
Even if it’s only half, I want you to share it with me!347Please respect copyright.PENANALUI0PxTqFr
If it acts as proof that we can trust one another,347Please respect copyright.PENANAsIPLBByT0w
Then this pain will be my pride! [x]
- I think it’s likely Katsuhira is going to try and carry some of Noriko’s burden, but he won’t be the only one to do it. If it’s actually possible, I totally expect Nico and the others to jump in as well and offer to share it.
Endless questions:
- “But as long as we can be bonded…” Gotta keep this unfinished line in mind.
- “As long as this facility remains, Nori-chan is also in danger.” And why exactly is that, major? Because she can continue to be used the way she has been until now? Or is there more to it than that?
- Okay so why exactly did this happen to Noriko? Why did everyone’s wounds linger longer in her? Is it because she used to be shy or lonely and thus she literally filled herself with everyone and carried more of everyone within herself? Or is there something that simply made her more prone to this?
- The part about “transferring sensations” and “leaving a seed of pain” caught my eye. I feel Noriko may have done more than leave a seed of her pain inside Katsuhira. She may have literally left a seed of herself (her heart) inside him. That’s maybe why he’s the one she can find herself in. And same with Katsuhira.
- Why didn’t Katsuhira end up as a vegetable, when the rest of Noriko’s closest friends did?
- Does Noriko want to continue the Kiznaiver system because she wants everyone to connect in spite of what it may do to her? Or is there something else?
- What exactly is Noriko’s thought process every time she jumps?
I’m way too sleepy to properly make guesses about these right now, but these are definitely going to be the things I’ll be musing about all week lol
