what the hell is going on in that trailer: a novel
Just got back from my exam and I have to write all this down because of what. is. going. on. in. that. damn. trailer.

Lots of Nico->Tenga->Chidori->Katsuhira, Katsuriko, and some Yuta and Honoka too! (mostly Honoka because the timing of this mess is just unfair.)
The worst part about this is not knowing what scenes are going to be in episode 8, and what scenes are going to be in episode 9.
I’m guessing the rain break-down happens in Episode 9, since that’s the episode that’s supposed to be “the heaviest”. But what are they even doing there? Are they on a mission?
Could Yaamada and Urushii have taken matters into their own hands to try and push the project to the next stage? And what would that stage even be? Or is this actually about Noriko?
Color me confused. All I know is that I’ve been waiting for Urushii’s protectiveness of Noriko to play a role, so if it’s going to do so, this would be a good place for it. Like if she thinks Noriko’s running out of time / in pain and sends the Kiznaivers on a mission regarding her?
Which reminds me:
WHO IS THIS GUY?? WHERE DID HE EVEN COME FROM?? That’s not Yaamada, is he? The guy looks completely pleased by the emotional mess that everyone’s nice connection has become. Do we have an evil mastermind behind the Kiznaiver project now? Well keep dreaming asshole, these children are going to pull themselves together and strengthen their bonds after all this. You’ll see it!
But yeah I give up, I have no clue what’s going on plot-wise lol
Feelings wise though, oh boy. I’m going to repeat myself when these episodes happen, but this is exactly why I tried to look the other way and rationalize away the hints of Nico liking Tenga back in Episode 5. I saw them, I acknowledged them. But I didn’t want to believe them.
I wanted to be spared of Nico’s suffering!! Wasn’t it enough with all the unrequited love already going on??
Sobs I should’ve known that with Okada, the answer is always no.
General thoughts:
- Those hands must be Katsuhira grabbing Chidori and dragging her along, going by her blush and their skin tones. The question is, why are they running and where? Could it be a Gomorin™ attack and Tenga pulls the same thing of leaving Chidori in Katsuhira’s care? Or does Katsuhira take charge because they get separated
and he’s in a hurry to get to Noriko? Or maybe it’s just a showcase of his development and he’s protecting Chidori? Which would also serve as one last push to make Chidori’s heart go dokidoki and get her to confess lol - I hope to God that Chidori’s confession won’t get interrupted by the Wild Gomorin. Please, anime lord, do not let it happen. Let us get this out of the way already, amen.
- On that subject, I seriously hope Okada won’t overdo it with Chidori, ala Episode 5. Because she has this tendency to milk the pain by focusing on the girl’s reaction to the unrequited love… And if we’re really going for the kill, then I hope Nico’s and Tenga’s feelings will also get enough spotlight. We already know a lot about Chidori’s as it is, so it’s time to delve into the others.
- I… also hope Tenga will be as understanding as he’s been so far and not give Katsuhira a hard time if he inadvertently hurts Chidori for paying attention to Noriko. Don’t do it, Okada! ;-;
- Not even going to talk about Hisomu being weird and mysterious. We’re all expecting him to be related to the project in some way so lol
- Honoka’s first scene from the trailer and yelling! Yuta seems to take place in the same location, going by the background. Plus the fact that the hands that are approaching Honoka from behind are Yuta’s; same blue watch! More than that though,
WHY IS HONOKA CRYING. I really, really hope it’s because she’s feeling everyone else’s heartbreak (romantic feelings getting in the way of friendships, again. WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN TO HER THIS SOON Honoka was just starting to heal!) and not because she’s in actual heartbreak of her own. And by that I mean: Please Okada does not make a mess out of Yuta and Honoka, too. I couldn’t bear that.
Those trembling eyelids!! This baby is holding back her tears!! UGH. Is this is the perfect “I knew it, so Tenga-kun [likes Chidori] after all.” expression, or what?
This also seems to take place before Nico watches the Katsuriko recording with Noriko, because here we can see her neck and by then Nico’s wearing a windbeater.
OKAY. This thing even has a countdown opening!! Is it a recording or are they overhearing Katsuriko in real-time?
WHAT EXACTLY ARE THEY HEARING. Holy shit imagine if they’re talking about their past together and Noriko’s revealing she did all this to help Katsuhira get his pain back. IMAGINE THAT. Chidori’s literally all “I’ve always wondered if there was something I could do for you! To get you back to how you used to be!” in episode 2 and then she spends a good chunk of her outburst in episode 5 complaining about Katsuhira paying attention to Noriko when [Chidori]’s the one who’s always been enduring pain because of him and supporting him.
Chidori’s flowers are literally “My love is deeper than yours”.
CAN YOU IMAGINE? How big of a reality-check that’s going to be for her, when she finds out (whether it happens here or later)? To not only know the lengths Noriko went to for Katsuhira but to know that Noriko’s - also - been in pain over it all this time and she endured it silently? THIS IS A HUGE STEP forward to Chidori’s development and I’ve been eagerly waiting for it since Episode 5!!
And even if this Katsuriko moment is just about their feelings in general. What if Chidori gets to hear the “Am I within you?” conversation and Katsuhira says that she is? DAMN.
Still, though, Nico being there is the best part IMO. Because Nico is literally dealing with an unrequited love of her own, and the guy in question likes Chidori. Chidori is here sobbing because of unrequited love of her own. LET THAT SINK IN.
PLUS. After Nico’s fantastic “Maki’s feelings are her own!” speech from the last episode, I’ve been craving Nico to talk to Chidori about this. So if it happens I’ll be so happy!
Okay. This scene has me all kinds of concerned because Same. Damn. Background. Trees + Lamp-posts.
And this reminds me of a scene from another Okada show, NagiAsu. In it, Hikari confesses to Manaka, who runs away because she gets overwhelmed and scared by it. He takes off after her, but Chisaki, who is in love with him, runs after him and begs him to not chase Manaka and confesses to him.
So yeah, BELLS WERE RUNG. Especially because this must be something BIG for Tenga to be this emotional!
Maybe Chidori’s actually running after Kacchon? Kacchon who’s with Noriko? And Tenga’s trying to stop her because he knows she’ll only get hurt? Or maybe Nico confronted Tenga about his own feelings for Chidori and Chidori overhead (another Okada classic!!!)? Lol, wait what if Okada subverts the expectations and Tenga’s being Tenga and pushing Chidori to Katsuhira instead. Sigh.
And now onto what’s really been eating me inside. NORI-CHAN. KATSUHIRA. KATSURIKO!!
SHE’S PULLING HER CHOKER HER MARK IS ACTIVATED BLESS!! I BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT!
Except it looks like it won’t bode well at all for anybody. Welp. I’m back to my pessimistic paranoia regarding Noriko. I’ve been fearing she’s on borrowed time since the first episode and the ending actually put me at ease (yes, even despite the random mysterious injection!). But nope, the fear is back full force now. Great.
Red. Just great. What is this supposed to mean? Did they just enter a new phase of the project or is this perhaps from Katsuhira’s connection to Noriko getting to the forefront?
Speaking about when and wheres (boy, do I have A LOT of those!).
Noriko’s either wearing different clothes, or she took her jacket off. It gives me the feeling they may have been drying off?
And that background we have there fits this one a lot, too, and Noriko is slightly wet. Yuta and Tenga also have their respective Pictures With That Yellow Background. So maybe what started as a group scene ended up with Katsuhira staying behind to talk to Noriko again, and that’s when they get recorded? Or it was only Katsuhira and Noriko and then everyone else joins. And this would be before the Night Clusterfuck happens.

Just how many times does it rain during these two episodes, anyway? Because in some shots the characters are dry, in others they are slightly wet and in others they’re soaking.
So what I’m asking myself is what comes first. Noriko revealing her Kiznaiver mark to Katsuhira, or this conversation? Curiously enough, we can’t see her choker in the picture above. Hmmm.

My baby!! Please do not tell me that Noriko has willingly given herself up to be used for the Kiznaiver system just so they’ll help get Katsuhira his pain back. And by “being used” I mean them ruining her life-force or something.
That could be a pretty good cliff-hanger though. Noriko telling us that she’s doomed, the flashbacks to Katsuriko’s childhood start, and then BAM. See you in Episode 10!
Also, I shamelessly saved the best for last because I’m dying

You guys. You guys I’m a mess. I’ve been LITERALLY WAITING SINCE THE FIRST EPISODE FOR THIS. Like the first thing I thought when I heard that was: “Oh!! We’re eventually going to get Katsuhira telling her that she’s within him, aren’t we?” And we have Noriko asking him now!! I am so overwhelmed by this I am not sure how am I going to endure until Episode 9.
How does this whole ‘love’ conversation even go?? Obviously, I’m hoping this is as straight-forward as it looks and they’re talking to each other about each other. But it’d be cute too if they’re discussing other people’s feelings lol Honestly, I’ve actually always thought Katsuhira would first have to witness (and empathize) with romantic love first-hand via the Kiznaiver System before even trying to figure out his feelings for Noriko. So it’ll be interesting to see how this all goes down.
