kiznaiver ep 07 thoughts
All my Maki and Maki/Ruru tears are here so here’s everything else because I feel this episode was really heavy on the foreshadowing!
As always, lots of rambling and images under the cut!
General Thoughts
Look at this:
- This looks like something taken straight out of one of Noriko’s silly missions! lol, I think this goes to show that all of them are just as lost when it comes to how friendships are built.
- That scene with everyone at the beach reminded me of a lot of Episode 3 and Hisomu asking Katsuhira to “die” for him. It’s really something to see how far all these kids have come since then. This time, they are willing to do what it takes to make each other happy not because they have to, but because they want to.
A little more Maki and Ruru because why not
So all those “Ruru may be kind of unstable” flags I got last week were just classic Okada. Why am I not surprised lol
On THE OTHER HAND THOUGH.
So for now, I’m leaning towards: Ruru was in love with Honoka, Ruru tried to make a move but Honoka didn’t return her feelings. Which led to either Ruru committing suicide or her illness getting the best of her. Any would’ve been enough for Maki to feel responsible for Ruru’s death.327Please respect copyright.PENANAYmhSvmYY7n
Though if Okada is feeling particularly evil, I’d LOVE it if Maki did actually return her feelings but either didn’t own up to it or never realized it until it was too late.
THANK YOU OKADA!! It was just beautiful.
I also love how they used the juxtaposition between Honoka and Manga! Sensei to show what Honoka was truly feeling and thinking. So, so good.
Nico
- Nico is just way too adorable. Like my heart honestly cannot bear how earnest and cute she is. Whenever she grabs the tips of her pig-tails, I melt!!
- Nico is also ridiculously emotionally savvy. “Maki-san’s feelings belong to Maki-san!” Thank you, Nico!! Just because we feel a certain way about one person, that doesn’t mean they are obliged to return our feelings. And that doesn’t make them mean or undeserving. They are just persons of their own.
- I’m 90% sure that’s going to become important once we hit the incoming Romantic Triangle(s). And speaking about that…
- Ohh boy. Nico outright blushes when Tenga pats her head. If we put this together with the hints we got on Episode 5, it seems we are headed to Nico having a crush on Tenga, after all.
- That said, I feel A LOT of things in this episode may tie in with her sequence in the ending, Tenga’s speech in particular. Which may or may not be a very painful thing lol I’ll get to that in another post, though!
Katsuhira and Noriko:
- I feel they did a lot of showing and not telling with Katsuhira, particularly with the stuff that he says.
- Exhibit no.1
- This is another quote that I feel may play another role later. Aka, Katsuhira empathizing with the pain of Noriko’s feeling in order to better understand where she’s coming from. Because doesn’t it fit perfectly? What Noriko did (pushing Honoka past her comfort zone with the movie thing), was “a terrible thing”. But Noriko “was hurting, too.” So she most likely gets a discount percentage as well lol
- Exhibit no.2
“If all we’re getting is her pain, Nico hates that we can’t do anything for her.”
- It’d be great if this means Katsuhira’s planning to ask Noriko about his flashbacks of her and why exactly she is with the Kiznaiver project. All in all, his shadowed eyes make me certain his words weren’t only about Honoka.
- “It’s fun having Tenga-kun around.” More of Katsuhira realizing and acknowledging his own feelings!! Sobs he’s seriously wonderful.
- And speaking about, Chidori saying “You’re becoming wonderful” right as we pan to the Kizuna Committee, aka Noriko.
- And not simply “Noriko”. But Noriko calling out the movie deal, aka trying to rectify her mistakes and doing something nice for Honoka.
- I can read that in two different ways. One would be the most obvious, aka we are being shown one of the ramifications of Katsuhira “becoming wonderful.” His words to Noriko's last episode got to her and made her take action in the right direction.
- Or maybe, just maybe, Katsuhira isn’t the only one who’s becoming wonderful. Noriko may be growing alongside him, though in much subtler ways.
- Now, this quote on the other hand… this I’m not sure how to read. I need to know what those flowers are, first. But the fact that Noriko pushes the picture down seems to imply she believes Katsuhira’s feelings towards her have changed and turned into something negative.
- Also, the picture itself is quite something. Urushii’s got to be somewhere in there, IMO. That purple-haired boy could very well be Hisomu, which would explain his expression when Noriko comes to get him in episode 3. And Nico’s parents are doctors, so who the hell who knows, that couple may be them. WHO KNOWS. This is Okada we’re talking about so we gotta consider every possible angle lol
- I’m betting that book Noriko’s holding is going to become important later.
It seems random for her to be the only one holding something otherwise.Oops nevermind, completely overlooked the sitting child! lol But I still expect it to be a picture book or something with sentimental meaning haha - Not to mention, Noriko’s the only one not smiling, and her eyes are shadowed. So she is definitely different from them. But in what way, exactly? I could have totally bought “Noriko can’t feel anything” but Episode 6 showed that’s obviously not the case, so I’m at a loss here. What in the world does it all mean?
- One thing I do know though HANDHOLDING CHIBI KATSURIKO!! How cute are they?? (Also, another thing that ties in with the ending!)
Tenga (and tendori):
- “Let’s become Maki’s friends!” Gotta love Tenga’s straightforward simplicity omg.
- … Why am I not surprised that we get a lot of background Tendori and Tendori being in sync right before an episode that’s being teased with Tenga and Love? (Though Nico’s apparent crush definitely spices things up a bit).
- But leaving Tendori comforting Nico aside, my favorite scene has got to be near the end. Where Chidori protests to Tenga’s idea, yet ends up subconsciously adopting it lol
- And no wonder Tenga’s been calling Katsuhira by his first name all along! He thought it was his surname! lol
can’t blame him
Hisomu
- HISOMU. HISOMU PLEASE. He was a riot this episode, first with the whole “ikemen germs” and then with Tenga literally dumping him in the water as if he were a sack of potatoes.
- Hisomu and Tenga are turning out to be a nice duo, though then again, all the cast has got great chemistry.
Yuta (and Honoka):
- Look at the sheer concern right there the moment he thought something was wrong with Honoka!!
- Do you know what I love about Yuta? That he claimed to be into people (namely, Honoka) only for their looks, but his involvement in Honoka’s arc has shown the complete opposite. Hell, he was even disappointed in Episode 5 when he opened up to Honoka and Honoka said she didn’t care! lol
- He is also very perceptive and I love how he knew just how to approach Honoka. He could tell Nico’s words moved Honoka’s heart, and then he sat and waited for Honoka because he could tell she would come out eventually. And then, he could also tell Honoka was assuming Ruru hated her.
- I like how he didn’t give Honoka the reply. He gave her the meanings to find out for herself. And this is something he wouldn’t have been able to do if he hadn’t been studying that manga as if it were some sort of final lol
- Aka, something he wouldn’t have been able to do if he weren’t pretty damn invested in looking beyond Honoka’s exterior and into her heart.
- Another thing I love is how honest Honoka is to Yuta. It’s like they meet on the same grounds. Their wavelengths are similar, so they are able to bounce off each other really well.
- No, I bet you this was the first time Honoka got to open up about this to anybody. And she did so to Yuta.
- Also, Yuta’s pained expression here makes me think the boy has developed some serious feelings for Honoka lol Though to be honest, I love them platonically too. Just bring on the Yutaki in whatever shape it comes!
- PLUS. Another favorite tidbit. Yuta could tell Honoka did have feelings for Ruru. Hence why Honoka kicks him lol
- And Yuta’s running continues to be the best hahaha
